Well if you know where your mother's soul is and don't mind her not having a body of flesh and blood you can always create a doll with her likeness and then use alchemy to craft several rare and powerful tools for transferring said soul into the doll. It's what Sophie did. It's why I don't think she should take an exam and should just get her full liscence. She's transferring souls and using alchemy to replicate Time Lord technology's chief attribute. And she can apparently just give away the portable atelier, which likely means she can just make another one. Even with a cheat cauldron her abilities are pure bullshit and she's probably the best alchemist in her games.

Atelier Lulua (The Alchemist of Arland 4) will be coming for PS4 and Switch Spring 2019. And don't bother picking up Nelke, that's just a crappy crossover game they made to enthrall the fans without putting in actual effort into it.

Basically, it plays like a Mobile Game. Your character is not even an alchemist, she's a civil servant and the gameplay is mostly city building. There are battles but you basically just go to a linear plane, walk while your characters chat, and then fight monsters with very stiff animations very similar to most mobile games, and when the linear path ends your "research" finishes and you are back in town for another round of events and city building. I may be too harsh to it since it DOES has it's unique side to it. It's basically a followup to the Atelier DS series, except that we're building a city instead of improving a shop or making money. But it has that same feel of focusing on "improving" your livelihood rather than focusing on alchemy and fighting in itself.

@@LeonGun8 well i understand your harsh one, but i think you have to undestand too that this era/time, 21st century, people don't have time to play from the beginning, like for example, dusk series (escha and logy, etc), needs time way more than normal one, or maybe the misterious book (sophie, firis, lilie), like the atelier series in fact a 3 story from each era/place/main story, with a different end and fun yet difficult and long game too, i played sophie on laptop, and in order for me to atleast make it to almost "end" game atleast 5 months, that are also include doing stuff like go to college, part-time jobs, even follow a trending-anime like omg, when will i play that? not to mention the problem of controller in PC, which I cannot sell item (lucky my friend have a xbox-PC controller), and now i haven't finish it yet mobile phone game is a "shortened" version of entire atelier game, which basically only introduce some of character (especially main heroine) to the "today" player just imagine if "today" player play from A5-A19, needs to finish in less than 4 years (this is the fastest to finish ALL of A-SERIES, which is also with doing with daily/real life activities) thanks to wikipedia, they may learn some of it, but as a player like us, yeah maybe it is harsh to say that the game is suck, but you have to bare it

Oh, I mostly understand what they aimed for but what I mostly couldn't take was the downgrade in quality itself. When I say mobile games I do not mean to snub mobile games as a whole either as I have played good ones. But instead that it feels like they downgraded the quality of everything, from graphics and presentation, to animations to battle mechanics. In fact, I can't even understand why they are releasing it for PS4. For Steam and Switch I get since Steam gets a lot of cheaper games and Nelke fits pefectly for a handheld game, but the PS4 release is completely unnecesary honestly.

I'm putting a note here that I am indeed speaking from the perspective of the original releases of the games and not the Plus versions. However, if you do have the chance to get a Plus version of a game, I would recommend getting it over getting the original since they're basically the base game but improved and with added bonus content. Also I know I butchered some of the names. Atelier persistently putting almost real but not actually real names in their games is tough for someone who is naturally mumbly like me. I'm sure you'll still be able to understand what I'm talking about though! :)

JP audio for Atelier Ayesha+, which was not on the original Ayesha release in the west. It's also worth mentioning that there's a drastic amount of cut dialogue for choosing to play most any of the games with English audio instead. And I don't mean miss-translations, but altogether skips and gaps in the scripts.

With the Atelier Nelke (and its All-stars Ensemble) "spin-off" announced to come to the West, I have to say this is the most impeccable timing to release this video. That said, I must also say the Atelier Iris and Mana Khemia were so different in structure they rather led to the creation of the Ar Tonelico series...

  • @Hambs23

    @Hambs23

    4 жыл бұрын

Ar Tonelico was a collaboration project between Gust and Banpresto, and the creator, Akira Tsuchiya already had plans for it's setting since he was in highschool. AT 1 was released at the same year as Iris 3, so it probably was in development maybe even before Iris 2 that was released a year earlier, while Mana Khemia was released one year after AT 1. Ar Tonelico and Iris/Khemia share some of it's developers, including Akira himself, but is completely different to them. There is a crafting system with Grathmelding, but it looks so much like an afterthought that you can completely skip it and you'll miss basically nothing of the game, side for the ocasional conversations between the protag and your current Reyvateil. I've played and finished AT 1 and am now going through MK 1, and they're both very good, but I like the gameplay in MK a lot more, specially the combat, which I consider to be one of the best Turn Based combat in any RPG I've played.

I wouldn't recommend this game as a start. Ayesha and Escha & Logy at first turned me off from the franchise. These are the first two games I tried before any other. It wasn't until I played Atelier Shailie, strangely enough, which got me into the franchise, although that's the last one in the Dusk arc. For younger gamers or maybe beginners, I might recommend the newer arc that's out though. Maybe Ryza will be a good starter when it comes out, but the Mysterious arc may be a good start. But then again, it really depends on what you're looking for. The Dusk arc probably has the best story.

Ah yes, the Atelier series. Most certainly a personal favorite jrpg series since I encountered it in 2013 with the vita version of Totori. That said though the games timed system clashed with my obsession with grinding which is probably the main reason I only have the Arland trilogy and a few others. Also small bit of trivia for the less linguistic. If I recall correctly the word atelier is from the french language and as one could guess refers to a workshop. It's just one of those moments were using a word from another language makes it more interesting, flowery, or poetic take your pick on which sounds more accurate.

Idk why but I own all of the atelier games!!!! *Rorona* is the best one to start with (PS3 era) since it's time limit is broken up over several missions. *Meruru* I found quite hard, but it does lay all it's cards on the table up front. *Sophie* (PS4) has no time limit, which is great for beginners.

Thank you so much for this information. I've loved this series for awhile since I've seen a few trailers and gameplay but I've never truly understood the structure of the installments or what they were truly like. I can't wait to start off with the dusk or mysterious installments.

I fell in love with this series from the Iris games and while I haven't finished all of them I've managed to keep buying them everytime they are released, something about them is just amazing and calming in the story and the alchemy! I haven't found another series quite like this thats for sure. Great video~

I'm a huge fan of most JRPG series but the Atelier games were never my thing perhaps because they're so lighthearted. That said, if it fits ones taste it looks like a very consistent franchise that delivers what its fans want. This is a nice video^^

As someone who has been enjoying the series for years, it's a good watch/listen. Glad I wasn't the only person getting steamed by the rorona time limits.... Also! You didn't mention atelier annie, which is a one-off title on the DS. It's...not great, so I don't blame you for ignoring it, but it at least should be mentioned.

Interesting... I can see how Gust really came into it’s style. I’ve only ever played the Ar Tonelico series, but after seeing this, alot of Ar Tonelico’s style (and the inclusion of it’s own somewhat-unnecessary “alchemy” system) makes sense. A focus on the party member’s day-to-day interactions, a magical whimsy hiding the harshness of the history of the world... fantastic setting flush with color and character? Check checkity check! I wonder... do you have any experience with Ar Tonelico, ValkyrieAurora? I personally prefer it, if only for those songs...

I tried playing Marie via the recently translated patch and I don't know if I would call it easy? I mean your right that it doesn't hand-hold, but it also doesn't have a cushion like the later games where losing fights just means you need an extended break. Even the second area's slimes will do you in if you charge in soon as it's available. I loved playing it to see how Rorona relates a lot to it however (which was my first Atelier) That said it was nice to hear about the second arc and the Mana Khemia games which I haven't tried yet. The atelier series needs more love!

tbh I've been wanting to get into this series for a few years now and haven't been super successful, never getting far in the games I tried a while back but never really losing interest either so I mostly just appreciated it from a distance. Atelier has always caught my eye with it's character design and fun looking gameplay but I can get pretty intimidated if a series has a lot of titles to choose from. i am so glad, you talked about the time management in each entry, because i personally prefer a strict one. It just motivates me to give my best and i love to planning ahead. I play the series since the ps3 entries, so the time management was for me always a definite part of "atelier". When the newer entries began to aband this system, i parted with the series. But maybe i should give Firis a try. Or some of the older ones. Thanks for this video.

Absolutely fantastic video!! I just today discovered the series through a random find of the first Iris game; Eternal Mana. I didn't know much about the series to be honest, but almost immediately after starting it up got hooked because of the gorgeous artwork and music. In a single day I've become an addict and I already just feel the need for more. I'm a really big RPG fan in general with my roots in Dragon Quest and Final Fantasy and I've discovered alot of different RPG's for different consoles over the years, but it's been a long time since I last found a game that captivated me as much as Atelier Iris: Eternal Mana have.
