An Interview With Jerry Sandusky | The New York Times

On October 28, 2013, Penn State agreed to pay $59.7 million to 26 sexual abuse victims of the former assistant football coach Jerry Sandusky. But two years earlier, The Times's Jo Becker interviewed Sandusky, just before he was found guilty on 45 counts of child sex abuse.

Repeating a question does not make one a liar, often times one is so thrown by a question, nothing comes to mind, except to repeat the question. I'm sure if you think on it, you will recall times when you yourself have answered the question with the question and you were not lying. I don't believe, despite his high profile position, that Mr. Sandusky is much of a thinker.

My impression: He seems to hem and haw in a very unskilled, rambling, unprepared, awkward fashion - like how someone with an I.Q. of 80 might reply to these allegations upon hearing about them for the first time - not like a normal adult of normal intelligence who has had months to mentally prepare what to say and how to say it when the inevitable questions come.

Brad Beasley Recent studies suggest a surprisingly large portion of child abuse in our society isn't committed by pedophiles (although of course they do) but urges based on power relations and opportunity. Alot of abusers abuse because they get off on the fact they have a vulnerable person in their power who they can abuse not because they necessarily are attracted to children. The bastards abuse because they can. He strikes me as one of these.

Joseph Wagner My father is a practicing psychiatrist of over 40 plus years. He'll be the first to tell you that pedophiles NEVER get better. They don't need or deserve help, they lost that right when they started molesting children. Execution or life imprisonment is more logical and safer for the community. I bet (know) victims of molestation wouldn't be as lenient as you are. Do you pity serial killers too?

It would obviously undermine "other" sexual identity arguments using similar logic. I think you realize that, hence your reticence to call a spade a spade.

The evidence against this guy is unbelievable. Its amazing he operated for so long. Nearly 50 victims testified against him, eye-witnesses saw him, he showed signs of "grooming" victims to not rat on him, he gave rewards to boys for spending time with him, and privatized his interactions with boys through the illusion of a charity. Go Nittany Lions!

10 Seconds in, with a smile just like Ted Bundy, "I didn't do those things." Let me say this again, as with Bundy's response to reporters: When you're asked a very disturbing question about being accused of something horrific, smiling doesn't come as a natural reaction. It's out of place. Inappropriate. He maybe did it. That's sad to have to conclude. I'd be mad as Hell. I'd ask: What ass hole would accuse me of this?" That's a natural reaction?

Response by disqualification is a lovely thing in itself because it does not by rule of debate even require response.require response. i'm a still hanging on right winger, simply because the misbehavior of other folks should not change the deep seated moral bedrock that we (should) choose to make our political alliances. As for the NYT (yea I know I said it didn't require a response but I"m no troll, I like discussions not deliberately inflamed. Hoping you are of a like mind, I agree that there is a liberal bias that is not only prevelant, it had come to BE what the NYT is. NOt good stratedy in the days of dying print. They can throw up Copy of brazen headlines, name the jurnalist (maybe blogger? lol) and simply pretend that because they put a Heveltica 10pt print "OPINION" in there somewhere that it is news with the writers opinion, but you are on the right side of this one I must say.
