An Insurgent Copy of a French DF37 Grenade?

Ғылым және технология

Today we're looking at what appears to be a copy of the French defensive DF37 grenade, but with a definitely more modern and different striker system. It's well painted and generally well made, but has a very rough seam around the middle, indicative of somewhat more primitive manufacturing techniques than one would expect from a major military power. What's your best guess as to its origin? Balkan? North Vietnamese? Let's hear it!

These seem to all be standard plumbing parts, im not sure about the english names but the bottom is the end cap to pipe, upper is bigger to smaller pipe and the aluminium collar is a basic part too, might even have the exact thread size for the detonator, so the appearance might be coincidence or somebody had some plumbing parts and a grenade and then had an idea

They definitely do look like standard plumbing parts, I agree! That's also why I'm pretty sure this wasn't a standard item made by a large military.

Why does the frag pattern not actually matter?

Internal serrations matter, but outer serration patterns don't seem to. Tests done by the British on Mills bombs with outer serrations showed that it didn't matter, so it seems that the serrations were originally mostly for getting a steady grip with wet or muddy hands!

@historicmilitaria Yeah almost has to be. Gunpowder might not be strong enough in such a small rascal as that. Not much room to make it too strong. I wonder how many would just fall and break open since they welded two cast iron parts together. It's a tricky task to get it to not Crack and fall apart. So that in of itself is impressive, even tho the welds look awful they held lol

It's a really interesting grenade, and unlike anything I've seen. It came in a large collection of Balkan grenades, so that's why I made a possible Balkan connection, as well as its overall similarity to the Yugo M62 grenade.

@historicmilitaria Exactly. I'm impressed for sure. To see something so crude yet well made, with a proper modern Fuze hanging out is a great little representation of times it was used in. If only it could talk lol
