An Extraordinary Evening at Violet Town; Passenger & Freight Trains

In this video I spent an evening at Violet Town on Victoria's North East Line. The North East Line can be a mixed bag; you can hang around and get a lot of action or literally absolutely nothing. This occasion though was a rather extraordinary evening with a number of different passenger and freight trains passing the station in a relatively short period of time. We see the usual V/Line N Class locomotives hauling Albury services, and the Melbourne-bound NSW Trainlink XPT which was running around an hour and a half late.
However we see multiple different freight trains mostly heading north in a relatively short period of time; literally one after the other! We start with a QUBE cement train with a VL, GL & 80 Class locomotives, Specialised Containerised Transit (SCT) Logistics 7MB9 with SCT002, SCT010 & SCT005, Pacific National 7MC2 with NR4 & NR49, Southern Shorthaul Railroad (SSR) 7MC5 grain train with CLF4, S311 & CLF2, and a southbound Pacific National grain train with BL31 & BL26. Thanks to all the drivers for the friendly horn shows too!

First time watcher from Violet Town. Enjoyed your clip, surprised you didn't hang around for the northbound XPT probably running just as late on the turnaround, due around 10.30pm. That northbound pacific national around 5 pm every evening must be the heaviest train I've ever felt, actually shakes our place alongside the line. Thanks

I'm astonished of how close together they came; usually on this line you're waiting hours for a train to pass through.

Thanks for the video. I enjoyed it and it also explains why some days I don’t hear many trains and others I hear a lot. They seemed to have fixed the issue with the SG VLocity trains, I heard them going through Benalla this afternoon.

Such terrific footage there mate, keep it up! 🤩 I’ve been kinda binge watching videos of yours and from some other channels of trains across Victoria, and it’s very tempting to make me wanna go there, I haven’t been since 2018.

Thanks! The North East line has always been shocking for punctuality; trains always running late due to various issues. I remember a news article from a couple of years ago that measured the punctuality of all of V/Lines railway lines; the North East line had a punctuality rate of only 5 percent! The others had around 70 - 80% of services arrive within five minutes.

@@ThebusofdoomFSX Lol that’s nothing new. Best (worst) I’ve done is an hour 1/2 late on the 18:02 Southern Cross to Albury service, not fun when you get home later after a long day in the city.

I would like to use portions of this video in a KZread video/song about the crash of the Southern Aurora near Violet Town in 1969. I trust this is ok, I will acknowledge you in the credits.
