As a Firefighter/EMT myself, A state trooper tried doing this to my rig at a local walmart and he was told not only by me but his supervisor to kick rocks or empty his locker. Mind you, Towing any commissioned emergency vehicle is a Third Class Felony in most states.

They are allowed to take exemptions to the law so long as it is safe to do so. They can't, for instance, park in a fire lane so they can grab dinner. honestly just Google shit man it makes ya look less dumb when you talk about shit

Don't mess with fireman in regards to codes. They can legally, literally, condemn your home based on codes. No place is perfect they'll find something.

In the code, it only accounts toward civilian vehicles, and emergency vehicles are immune. The tow company would have also known this and this would count as a conspiracy to commit willful negligence. There are also other charges that can be filed. By the time all the court stuff is over, that officer wouldn't just have lost his job, he would owe a lot of money, and be locked up in prison for around 20 to 30 years.

Dispatch: Fire on --- street ………. Firefighters: call the police department to put out the fire, our staff are currently taking the uber going back to station 🤣

He really is, I saw him in person at a putt putt/arcade/ batting cages place called Castle Park in sherman oaks CA, I was at the batting cages with my buddy and he pulls up with his son and sits and watches and supports his son hit balls for 2hrs. I talked to him and got a picture with him and it was crazy he was just a super genuine loving supportive father. Not what I'm used to seeing from him in the movies haha.

And we used to push you to the front of the line to check out. Last time I did that I had to explain why it was important to a 30 something. But she had kids to pick up from day care and was already late blah blah blah. She complained to the store manager. He put up a sign that a register was available to be opened for police and fire and ambulances. Kid you not, same freak show complained that they needed to open all registers and was banned from the store for life. Had to drive 40 miles for groceries after that. Not to mention if you had to attend a call else where you have immediate accessibility to roll out in a moments notice..

The worse part is, say an actual fire broke out, now a team is stranded and down a whole truck. Unfortunately people don't make it. Who is going to explain to the family of the deceased the response time and overall ability to react to the situation was hindered because of a parking violation that could've easily been overlooked. Codes ,rules are "fine". But imagine having to stand on that looking in the eyes of people who lost beloved members of their family. Real life tragedy and loss all because of lack of respect for basically co workers. Police and Firemen should be working together to help protect and serve the community. I'll never understand the beef.

The beef is that the Fire department isn't hated by the community where as police departments are typically viewed in a much more negative light, fire fighter jobs are to Protect and serve the community as opposed to cop "protecting" and "serving" themselves often to the detriment of the community.

We had a parking guard here in my town and she did this to police cars. Here in Sweden cops can park the cars anywhere so they can get to it fast if something happens. This dude gave the cops tickets when they was parked outside a restaurant. She got office duty!

This episode was based on real life problems. California highway patrol used to do this shit to the fire guys when they would “obstruct the highway” bc of a car accidnet or fire.. one chul vista firefighter actually got arrested bc he refused to move the truck.. for those that don’t know, firefighters are trained to park their rigs at an angle blocking the accident scene and first lane or two. They do this bc it protects the scene from oncoming vehicles. We’ve all seen those videos of cops getting hit and killed while having someone pulled over. That doesn’t happen with firefighters bc they have a 5 ton truck filled with 1500 gallons of water blocking their scene. They don’t just block traffic for fun. It saves lives.

The cop got a warning, the citizen who complained got a notice of his rights and a fine for the report, and the tow truck company was put near to bankruptcy because stealing mail is an absolutely insane level of illegal

Oh yeah, and if I remember, the fines for stealing mail are PER item stolen, meaning each item still to be delivered, even if there are multiple to a single individual, counts as an infraction to be fined. During a particular car accident, we had the scene surrounded by trucks. An old guy who couldn't give two shits less drove directly THROUGH the scene. He found enough room to get his car through and just drove right through. Majority of t he general public is simply stupid and when placed into a stressful situation, they panic and make everything worse.

@@joshdisciple yeah, a suspension with pay, then the investigation was ended and no charges were filed, he continues being a cop to this day. Suspension with pay is vacation.

@@Odoxtoom The point is that in an emergency, that would use that lane, they would likely be the closest unit anyways, and as such would be the ones responding. There is no way what-so-ever, you could possibly argue that the cop is in the right, based on anything shown in this clip.

@@MatthewVanNewkirkCode 3 is the American Emergency Code for, essentially, “emergency personnel (FD, PD, EMT) responding to an ongoing event.” Flip the lights and sirens on inside the rig and you’re allowed to speed, as time is crucial in all emergencies. I think in some cities (I’m in the middle of bumfuck nowhere so I wouldn’t know) that dispatchers can manually toggle traffic lights to aide responders in getting to the event quickly and safely.

Back in the mid 80's, I positioned our ladder truck on the interstate to protect a very serious and active accident scene. The involved vehicles occupied two lanes and firefighter and rescue personnel part of a third lane with equipment. I was blocking three lanes. The flood lights on the truck were also being used to illuminate the scene. I very young state trooper demanded that I reposition the truck so that they can open a second lane of traffic. I attempted to cite crew safety and that they could us the shoulder as well. He wasn't taking the suggesting and for two minutes threatened me with arrest as he followed my every move. Luckily, another trooper approached, a corporal and by chance, a volunteer at my department, relived the first trooper by instructing him to do something else.

Even if there is no obvious fire, there may be an actual fire inside a building or a non-fire emergency. My old company would usually send both an ambo and our engine for some medical emergencies simply because CPR with 2 people or moving a very heavy patient can be difficult.

See what you don’t get though. Is if they get a call, if they have to park at the very back of the lot where there’s enough spaces available for the truck, then that delays their response time. It’s not just for emergencies, but it allows them to also have a stil rapid response out of the store when shopping and they get a call

I used to work for a towing company. We would NEVER have picked up any emergency services vehicle without authorization from either their dispatch or their supervisor. You do NOT mess with emergency service vehicles, and a cop CANNOT force you to tow a car.

This is so cool, I'm obsessed.

The thing is, there might not be a fire right now but if they get called for an emergency somewhere they need to get to the truck as fast as possible. That’s why they, in most counties, are allowed to park in places others can’t even if it’s not an emergency at that spot right now.

Like, even saying the fire isn't in the area or it's just a movie isn't an excuse. Plus, even if you go by the movie's context, they were ordering take-outs. Remember, these firetrucks are packed with a good radio system and someone is always staying at the station to deal with the calls or relaying what the dispatcher says from 911 I'm not familiar with firefighters nor am I in the position to be one, but I sure damn well know that this cop is just being an asshole for no apparent reasons other than being an asshole

A volunteer firefighter once told me cops never give speeding tickets to firefighters because they might beat the ambulance to assist them if they get shot. They dont want to risk getting a pissed off 1st responder they gave a ticket to. Plus, ya know, (my 2 cents) they might be on the way to save a life & forgot to put their lights on. Plus, they save lives in general.

This happened for real in California. The CHP Trooper got into a fight with the Firemen over their truck blocking lane on 405 and told them to move. They were at the scene of an accident with injuries. This was on the news channels.

A friend of mine worked as a paramedic in the UK, and a cop ticketed them when the were on a shout because the ambulance was half on the pavement and half in a cycle lane, they got there own back when a guy jumped of a bridge and the same cop was on scene, because technically its the cops job to pick up the bits but the ambulance service does it as a courtesy, not this time, my mate goes up and say," remember us" hands him a body bag and gloves and then " maybe want to find a shovel" the guy blew chunks before he even reached the jumper.

@@encampedtester1 This was a few years back , my friend is retired now, but it was a courtesy agreement the cops and ambulances crews had on RTA's and jumpers and the likes, not sure why, my friend said it was probably because they and the fire crews were more used to dealing with bodies, not a good look for Joe public to see cops barfing if they not really dealt with it before.

@@davidocall He was still standing at the ambulance when they came out to lecture them about where they'd parked, fortunately his boss cancelled it. Apparently he was a bit of a pr**k and wasn't well liked even with the other cops because when he had to pick up the jumper they all left him to it.

One police officer arrested a firefighter at the scene of an ongoing emergency for illegally blocking traffic even though it was protocol. Not only was the cop not charged, but he continued on the force and got a congratulatory retirement. They tried to sweep it under the rug as they had apparently done before, but couldn't hide it as well since it made the news this time.

Some of y'all don't seem to know that it's actually not illegal for firetrucks, and firetrucks only, to park in fire lanes at any time, not only in emergencies. The cop actually had absolutely no standing to tow the truck, or even write a ticket, the law was not on his side. Some of you are also really salty about seeing firefoghters out getting lunch or shopping in their firetrucks, but don't seem to realize they do that because they're on break while on a continuous shift, and should they get a call right then and there (because no, they don't have to report back to the station in between), they have to drop what they're doing and respond if they're the closes to an emergency, even if on break. But I'm also seeing people respond saying this in replies, and others come in and say the same stupid things others said before the replies, so I'm wondering how much some of you can read or if you're being intentionally obtuse 🤔

Used to work at a grocery store. Firefighters order their lunch in advance and we check them out at the service desk to minimize their time in the store, because I've seen what happens if they get a call while standing in line to check out. They have to set their stuff down and leave, then come back for lunch later. If they're lucky it'll be like 30 minutes. If they're not, it'll be a few hours.

Yep. They can park in fire lane while they go in a business to check fire extinguishers, emergency lighting and exits, occupancy cards, etc, etc. If they get a call while doing the inspection, they don't want to schlepp it all the way across a parking lot to get to the truck.
