An ambitious day hike in the High Uintas hoping to find some old brook trout.

Спорт

I went on a rough day hike in the High Uintas to go fly fishing at a small off trail lake. This particular lake has been on my radar for a while now due to the limited amount of brook trout that are stocked. I decided to go cross country to shave off several miles of hiking. In doing so however, meant going straight up over 1000 ft and then right back down. It was not an easy hike, but I did end up finding some brook trout. Overall, it was a pretty fun adventure. Thanks for tagging along on another episode of adventure time

    I was baffled with the garbage. Whether you take the long way or the short hard way to get there---if they were willing to pack all that stuff in, it makes me curious what happened that made them decide leaving it was a good idea. Was it just a lazy thing or did they get sick or something and just bailed.

    Beautiful lake with plenty of open space to fish. But that is a lot of strain on the legs and knees for those size brookies.

    Yea, we pretty much do know. I have been fishing the uintas much longer than you have and there really are not that many surprises anymore expecially with social media, gps, fish stocking information, google earth, etc. There was a time when we just had geological survey maps and a compass to make our way and it was pretty exciting then with no information and no people.

    Another fun adventure. What bead did you try that helped with quicker balancing? Nice brookies for younger fish

    They're called offset beads (tungsten). Depending on the brand, they are called jig bombs, insta jig or drop beads 👍

    I picked up a Umpqua Surveyor 2000 ZS about 6 years on clearance. It's an awesome pack. I don't think they make them any more. It's been my go to daypack ever since

    Nice video!!! Crazy that people leave trash up there! Was wondering your thoughts on the Centric vs The sage rod?

  • @TroutHowler

    @TroutHowler

    Both are awesome. The Centric seems to be a little more sensitive and the R 8 seems to launch line a little more effortlessly.

    Killer hike for a pile of trash and no older gen fish. At least you got to try a new rod.
