My goodness she was such a legend, one of the best female voices ever. I loved Amy’s voice, why did we have to loose her so young. Fame can be a very fickle friend. Thank you so much for sharing xxx

Loved Amy! I used to hang out at a Pub in Camden Town called the Good Mixer when I worked in the UK. She used to hang out there but I was there before she was a star never got to meet her. Other rock stars were there from Blur to Menswear to the Boo Radleys! Also, Marc Almond and Robert Plant used to frequent the pub. Just a shame that drugs got to her. She had an incredible voice and range!! Cheers for this guys!

Such a brilliant singer. No one since Janis Joplin was so special. And like Janis, when I see her videos all I do is think 'why?'

Her anxiety and insecurities did her in. I really wish she had more confidence and realized just how special she was and how much people loved and respected her. She did not have to twist herself into pretzels. People adored her and yet she never realized it

@Diane Lake Ahh, I see you had a look around, thank you for that. I did mention on the video how she looked so shy and timid and seemed to be looking for approval that she was doing OK and she was doing just great. Such a shame and was hounded over here, which makes it even worse, when she really needed guidance. That was from our "Weird & Wonderful Wednesday" section, where we look for something interesting to us or covers done by other artists that you would not expect. Thanks for watching.

Amy was the greatest jazz singer the UK ever had. Shame she never made it to maturity . Think what that would have sounded like !

So, I wanted to comment on Amy because the documentary about her has been playing on my satellite TV again for a week. It's not on everyday and I have seen it multiple times in the past. The documentary, if you haven't seen it, takes you back to when she was a little girl and gives a synopsis of her life. Her voice was so unique. She did seem to be insecure in this song, but that is how she came across in most of the documentary, too. Tony Bennett asked to sing a duet, specifically with Amy. During the taping of their song, he had to convince her that she was doing okay. It is a shame that she died so soon. One of the other things that I noticed from the show was that it seemed like the paparazzi was relentlessly hounding her. It was almost as bad as the paparazzi chasing Princess Diana. It wasn't exactly the same, but it was pretty bad. It seems that her stardom rose so quickly and she didn't have the coping skills to deal with her notoriety. I love the way she sings. I was not familiar with this song. But, she did a good job with it. Listening to the studio version, I could hear the words better. But, then you miss seeing her play guitar on that version. Anyways, thanks BP1 and BP2 for the song. I'll be listening closer, when the documentary plays again, to see if they do any snippets of film on this particular song. Keep the great music coming. 🙂

@Debbie Lewis Thank you for the great comment and interesting facts. We only realised that it was ten years since she passed after we recorded that reaction, which is why we forgot to mention anything about it, we had already intended to record that just for our "WWW" session. I recall watching a Christmas edition of the "Jools Holland" show as unfortunately she was not is a good place with drinks and so on and her performance was not great. She had all the talent but perhaps too many around her with the wrong intentions. It looked at one time that she may get herself clean and away from the scene but it seems that it was too late. She had an amazing voice and this song was before all the big hair, makeup and tattoos that maybe helped hide the shy person beneath. Nice to know you enjoyed it and that you have been watchin the documentary recently so it would have all fallen nicely for you and your great research, Hope your having a great day. I managed to get out and play golf, it was an overcast day, but no real rain. Considering I have not played for over 3 weeks, it went well but the back is feeling it now. Take care and some more interesting artist coming your way,. Cheers

One of my first KZread song collections was of various video clips of Amy. That was right around 2007 right after I got broadband. If I still have that stuff its on a laptop that hasn't been fired up in half a decade.

As for me, "Back to Black" made her famous, but I don't think I ever heard a single from "Frank" on the radio in 2003/4. That was probably different in the UK.

@Ulrich von Bek Interesting comment, I could not say for sure, but that does seem to be a very low charting position for this song. Probably still very early in her singing career. Thanks for the comment

Consider your like 'thingie' hit. Such a bright star to have burned out so early. I'm not sure it was totally alcohol. But I don't really delve into the 'celebrity deaths' much. Seems like I heard there were some mental problems. Or at least mental upsets. Good reaction Guys.

I know this sounds really morbid, but I think Amy, along with a number of other musicians were tragically destined to burn out rather than fade away. She bares her soul with every performance and there really is a sadness in her voice that speaks of a tortured soul. I see many similarities between her and Kurt Cobain, Chris Cornell and Chester Bennington. I'm glad I got to experience her music live before she passed away. 9/10

@Kurn Hurin I am not expert on anything, but maybe you need to be in that place to be able to convey a song in the way all those names you mention did. We have something coming soon which is very similar and from a tormented soul. See if you pick out which one.
