Keeping the cockpit closed was the correct decision. Having it open when the X-Wing is in flight mode would look funny. The paint job and weathering turned out awesome. Great job 👍

Your figure painting works. It's hard to make AMT pretty. Like putting lipstick on a Berkshire hog. You did great.

DC circuitry can be fun. I've had to do it with 575V Bosch motor drives for electric vehicle battery presses where I've been working. Always fun when the engineer throws in a resistor bank or capacitors.

@@EagleSciFiModeler Yes, there are standard X wing kits in 1/48th by Fine Molds but there is a version with all the electronics, wings etc. It's pricey at around $125... I like this bigger scale version though the 1/72 Fine Molds kits are great!

That 14.5V DC supply is an oddball alright. I think tiny motors and low volt lighting ran on that stuff in the 90s into the Oughts.

Those "mystery" parts are capacitors, and looking at the instructions, they can just as easily be installed across the corresponding terminals on the circuit board. Of course, I haven't got to the end of this video yetr so maybe you already sorted it out 🙂

That's one advantage of DC vs. AC circuits, DC is easier to add devices to on work drawings and schematics to make Ohm's Holy Law add up for it.

I imagine they are there to provide a kick to get the motor spinning, since electric motors, especially those with a gear assembly to drive, require a bit more current to start than they do to keep operating 🙂

Beautiful job as always. I have the motorized Bandai x-wing kit that I still need to finish up. It’s a bit newer and smaller than this kit but the electronics are miles ahead of this one for obvious reasons. But you did a fantastic job. I don’t see a ton of different versions of the x-wings, just the usually red so this is a nice change. Fantastic work. Take care

The motors are better on the Bandai kit not to mention it's better-engineered. The wings just don't open or close well on this old AMT/ERTL kit. I've seen video build-ups of the Bandai 1/48 X-wing kit and it definitely outclasses this kit by a mile. Of course, you pay more than a mile extra for the Bandai kit, too! It wasn't cheap when it was first released and I doubt you can get the deluxe Bandai X-wing kit for much less than 30-40% mark up now. Eagle Models did what he could with this kit. It was a nice paint-job and the lighting on the engines and cockpit front panel were nice touches. I don't think I would have bothered motorizing the thing. I would have just kept the model in cruise (wings closed) or combat configuration (fully extended/open wings). I don't know that Round 2 should bother re-releasing this kit unless they seriously improve it, if they're going to keep the motors (which I doubt they would). While their old Star Wars model kit re-releases have been generally good, only the newer Round 2 Star Wars kits have been hits out of the ball park. Very few people are dissing the new TIE Fighter model released this past year. It proves there's life in the US market when a company cares to do research and properly engineer its model kits. (Lest we be seen as too Bandai-biased, their model kits have problems, too. The chemistry of the Bandai Star Wars kits does NOT take kindly to the "wrong paints." The assembled, painted kits have been known to become brittle and crack over time. Also, the plastic is thin as it is and a lot of people have broken Bandai models simply by sneezing on them! Yes, an exaggeration to be sure but it's true that a lot of the small bits on the Bandai models are fragile.) It's kind of difficult for anyone to top Bandai but seeing as how half the Bandai Star Wars kits are no longer easily available in the US AND Star Wars' popularity is no longer what it was because of Mickey's mismanagement ---! Yeah. We're lucky ANYONE is doing new Star Wars model kit releases now! I saw a TON of Boba Fett/Bandai action figure/model kits at Ollies Discount Outlet this past XMas. Those kits did NOT sell. They still have tons of them in-stock. What killed sales of that kit was the awfulness of the Boba Fett limited series on Disney+. They absolutely ruined that character!

@@EagleSciFiModeler Unfortunately, I don't think you CAN get a good deal on most of the Bandai kits now. If I'm not mistaken, at least half of them are out of production or extremely rare -- except the Boba Fett model kit! LOL Yeah, that 1/48 scale Bandai X-Wing kit with the motorized action received raves but it was gone fairly quick. As ubiquitous as the X-wing is, it sells out most of the time! LOL The scale, motors, and LEDs really put that Bandai 1/48 X-wing kit on another level. I think it was their best X-Wing release but it was limited and I don't think they ever did another run of the kit with the LEDs and motors. I've seen the other X-Wings Bandai did and frankly I think they were kind of dinky... Then again, their Perfect Grade (1/72 scale) Millennium Falcon wasn't huge, EITHER, and that was never an economical kit for the size. With the general popularity of Star Wars in decline, the AMT/ERTL kits I'm sure have better deals. The question is how many people want to spend time accuratizing half those kits?!?

Beginning of Video, BEFORE I finished watching! -- Didn't Bandai release a 1/48 scale X-Wing that was motorized, too? Sweet model but very expensive, too. I think it was a limited run as well. The second production run didn't have the lights and motors in it.
