The '55 Chevy was the first successful Chevrolet with an optional V8 engine. Chevrolet had produced an earlier car with a V8 in 1918 (Chevrolet Series D), which used a 36-horsepower overhead valve 288-cubic-inch V8, but it remained in production for only a year.[5] In 1955, Chevrolet decided to fit its new car with an overhead valve V8 engine design, which was similar to the 1949 Oldsmobile "Rocket 88" V8 engine which was an earlier GM success. Chevy's new 265-cubic-inch overhead valve V8 was designed to be smaller, lighter, and more powerful than previous V8s in the auto industry, and would come to be known as the "Chevy small block".
Additionally, Chevrolet drastically changed its body design. The 1955 Chevy had smooth straight panels on the sides and hood. This was a major departure from previous years for Chevrolet. Although Ford introduced what would be the first "shoe box" body design in 1949, GM and Chrysler were slow to catch on, only slowly replacing some of their bubble-like hood and side panels with flatter one's each year, without achieving a full shoebox look by 1954. But in 1955, Chevy designed the entire car with the full shoebox look. Along with the flatter straighter panels, the '55 also had modern que's like wrap-around glass on the windshield, and triangular tail lights that jutted outward. This new look, combined with new power and engineering, made the '55 an instant hit with the buying public and a critical success.
The car's popular "shoe-box" body style and chassis were carried over to 1956 (with changes to some of the front and rear aesthetics and bottom body line), and then carried over to 1957 (where the body was lengthened several inches in the rear and more drastic aesthetic changes were made).
The '55, '56 and '57 Chevy's are extremely sought after by collectors, enthusiasts and hot rodders, and the three model years are often referred to by the given nickname of the "tri-fives". Source: Wikipedia

I see this kit as a new arrival from an online hobby site. Then go to youtube & you have this review of the kit I just learned about minutes before. Nice color. There is a lot of molded in detail that I thought would be separate parts, but, oh well it is still an awesome kit. Good job with that interior.

I loved putting together AMT models as a kid. I would save all the unused parts and use them to "customize" future kits. I used my mother's black sewing thread for the distributor wires. Great job Chris, You are very neat and thorough, after watching this video I want to go out and get an AMT model kit. PS that last time I bought one it cost $2.00, so it's been a while. Thank you for your fine video.

I can't wait to get started on this guy! 1/16 scale cars are probably my most loved kits to build (alongside 1/24 and 1/25 big rigs sets from Italeri, Moebius, Revell, and AMT). Great build! Bravo!

This is awesome! Love your channel. Anyway, on hobby forums all over the internet, modelers all decry the use of Krylon and Rust Oleum spray paints on plastic models. They say it obscures details, and melts the plastic. Yet, I have found a bunch of modelers on KZread, including yourself, producing gorgeous models doing just that.

Absolutely beautiful! The '55 BelAir is one of the best looking cars of the 50s to begin with, and you did another stellar job with great detail! My favorite detail here is the carpet flocking - as someone who has seen many of the real tri-5 Chevys in real life at Barrett-Jackson and other major classic car auctions, I can tell you your carpeting detail is spot on perfect to the real thing! On the BelAir trim, GM used a thread weave interlacing the interior color with black and silver. It really pops in the sun. You matched it perfectly!!

She's absolutely beautiful Chris! And I see you're an embossing powder user too! I've been using that for years and to my eyes it represents carpeting in a much better scale than flocking. Flocking is OK for big scales such as 1/12 and 1/8, but for smaller stuff embossing powder is the way to go. A couple nits though......I sure do hope the box is MUCH tougher than the ones these kits used to be in. EVERY time I see the reissues on eBay, the body is messed up with severe warping or outright broken windshield frames. Also, I sure do wish that AMT would have modeled an uptop for something this size. I'm a big convertible fan and it's mostly because they look nice with their tops UP with windows down. Thanks for the review and keep up the great work!

Shady memory but I believe the box art pictured a blue & white car & that's why I built it that way, great color combo!!

I’d love to see a 1952 Fender Telecaster electric guitar with a blonde-wood paint job in the backseat ! Pastels and blonde-wood are so ‘50’s.. Beautiful workmanship.

The 50's had THREE THINGS going for it - pastel turquoise, the "tri five" Chevys and everybody wore "dress clothes" in public. (and that's MISTER Fuddy Duddy to all of you - stay off my lawn too). Your works are fascinating, fun and a little costly on my budget - but DON'T STOP. Thanks for sharing...

When I was younger, engine plumbing kits were sold as accessories from 3rd parties. However, this kit included it back then as well.

I'm jealous of all you You Tube model builders. Nothing ever seems to go wrong with your builds. I have this same model and it was a nightmare to build. Never could get the wiring to stay attached to the distributor and I used all types of adhesives. Doors still don't fit right even after modification to make them close. Only thing that came out to my liking was the paint.

Nice work, nice video. I did notice 2 issues. It seems all the Chevy V8 models I've seen delete the V under the emblem on the hood and trunk, and the front splash pan / gravel shield seems a bit deep, causing the bumper to sit too far forward. Other than that, looks like a well designed high quality piece. Away from model building for many years, this one might make me jump back in. Wish there were more 1/16 -1/18 kits available. Can't do the small ones anymore.

I may be a little late and I'm not usually one that corrects but that steering wheel " Trim ring " is actually known as a Horn ring many older models of cars had the ring all the way around the whole wheel then they went to half rings and then in the late Sixties some cars eliminated that ring with a button sometimes with an extension coz of the Deep Dish of the steering wheel and then some horn rings were built into the wheel itself known as Rim blown horns !! Out 73 or 74 Mercury Marquis had that feature I can't pinpoint the year coz I was like 7 or 8 yrs old at the time !!
