Model Roundup: www.modelroundup.com/1953-For...
The Ford F-Series was redesigned by Ford for 1953 with a more integrated look. The pickups also obtained their widely familiar names: The F-1 now became the F-100, the F-2 and F-3 now became the F-250, and the F-4 now became the 1-ton F-350. Optional interior amenities were new, including a dome light, lighter, arm rests, sun visors and a radio. On March 13, 1953, the Ford-O-Matic automatic transmission became an option.
Engine types[edit]
The 1954 F-100 was the last year for the flathead engine in the US. Models in Canada, however, (Mercury M-Series), retained the flathead. 1954-55 saw the introduction of the new 239 CID overhead valve Y-block V8, dubbed "Power King." The six-cylinder engine's displacement was also increased from 215 to 223 CID and power steering was introduced as an option. In the succeeding years the 239 Y-block was replaced with the 256, 272 and 312.
Body styles[edit]
The 1956 F-100 is a one-year only body style. The 1956 F-100 is easily identified as it has vertical windshield pillars and a wrap around windshield as opposed to the sloped pillars and angled windshield of the 1953-55. The 1956 model also offered a larger wraparound back window as an option. Starting in 1956, Ford offered the very rare "Low GVWR" versions of each model. Also in 1956, seat belts became an option.

    One thing I really appreciate about the way you build- aside from finishing up with a beautiful model- is you're not fussy. You have an enthusiasm which is infectious and I like that. I always look forward to your videos, Chris. Best of health, sir, from the hills of Virginia. Cork

    Another outstanding build-up , *Chris* ! This ol' AMT '53 F-100 is one of my all-time favourite kits ---- its extra parts are worth the purchase alone ! Even though I have the 'Retro' release ( original box art release [ c.1962 ] from a few years ago ) , I may just have to get one of these Coke versions ; that vintage soda machine is sweet ! I think that the next one of these that I build , I'll customise it with the kit's grilles (one that looks like a '60 Starliner) and 'borrow' the engine from either the '60 Starliner ( which includes two complete engines ) or maybe the Pontiac OHC 6 from the MPC '69 Firebird . Keep 'em coming , *Chris* ! I enjoy your videos quite a bit .

    I built a lot of these kits starting in the early 60's when I was a kid. I built a few of these 53's and I don't remember the hood fitting so well. I had to massage it a bit. I just built a kit that was several years old and had all the goodies of the original kit. They must have worked on the molds as this kit has always been one of the staples for car modelers and must have popped thousands of kits from it over the years! I'm also a collector and builder and have a large collection of kits. I would buy one to build and one to save unopened still in the shrink wrap. I love your building reviews, more practical and more fun. I like how you build your models. I have always used model paint in the rattle cans with good results and also use an airbrush. I tried Krylon one time and it was kind of thick so I stick with model paint. I also use my fancy airbrush with the House of Kolors model paint that I got from Walmart. They tried selling it a few years ago and it bombed so they put it on clearance and at 50% off it still didn't sell. Well, at 75% off I broke out my debit card and bought a ton of it in one ounce bottles and rattle cans in most of the colors like a lot of pearls and airbrush reducer plus the accessories like mask's for flames etc. I have added to my Tamiya and Model Master colors (I model planes & ships also). I'm in my early 70's now and have more time to model. My problem is i have so many kits I don't know which one to start next! LOL

  • @hpiguy

    @hpiguy

    5 жыл бұрын

    That's a good problem to have. I'll never build all my stash and that's ok. Nothing against airbrushes and what not, I have them and use them as well when custom work is needed. I've always leaned towards the cheaper, faster methods of kit making. I don't build show winners, I build every day model kits that look good on a shelf at home and I love doing it. A lot. Keep on keepin on man and thanks for coming along for the ride!

    The door panels are created by what is called a "slide core" in the mold. When the mold closes, blocks on the stationary side of the mold push the slide cores forward leaving the panel impression. The pattern is tooled on the face of the slide core. The cores open and close with the mold (open to eject the part). Beautiful model!

    My trophy issue version didnt have the mesh grill. I'm building mine full kustom lake pipes and wide whites. Mine had white walls but were skinny ones. The custom rear fenders do require a bit of extra work cause they lack locating pins vs the stock ones. Still a very cool kit. Has a spare hemi in it..

    I have been seeing this one online and I like it a whole lot. I love that the guys at Round 2 seem to be putting out alot of models in the Coca Cola livery. I worked for a Coca Cola vending company here in Rome Georgia where I'm from. And I've drank Coke most of my life. I love your weathering effects on this build. I may try to get my hands on this one next. I am currently working on AMT's 55 Chevy Sedan. I know you did a review on that kit a short time ago. I just finished black washing the grill of it right before I sent you this in your comments section. It looks awesome ! The further I get into it the more excited I become. I love cars and pick up trucks from the 50's ! Tell me something Chris, one of my favorite TV shows was Sanford and Son. Why hasn't there ever been a model kit of the old truck from that tv show ? The truck was a 51 Ford F-100. As popular as that show was, I've never understood why there hasn't been a model of that truck. It shows the truck in the opening credits of the show in different camera angles so you can definitely get a good look at it. So I think there should definitely be a Sanford and Son truck. But what do you think Chris ? Would you build it and do a review on it if there was ?

    I thought there was a 51 Ford kit, but I am probably wrong. If they issued one with the decals I'd build it for sure.

    It may be a bit light for a gloss coat, for gloss and factory fresh I'd use Apple Red from Rustoleum, but either color will look good in the end.

    Fantastic build up of this kit Chris! I loved the character, the weathering and the backstory you gave the kit- it adds personality and a reason for doing what you're doing. It's great to see such a connection with your subject matter and want to do right by it :) * Checks your work bench for a can of Coke* The weathering was really cool, I think I've I've learned a trick or ten from you, hope ya don't mind.. Have you ever weathered anything using the hairspray technique? I know it's pretty common among military armor builders- just wondering how it would work on say, a civilian vehicle. Keep up the in incredible work, and for inspiring me to delve into a few more car kits! :)
