AMSOIL Single Remote Bypass System Install Cummins

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Let's take a look at the installation of an AMSOIL Single Remote Oil Bypass System in a 2014 Dodge Ram with 6.7L Cummins. As described by Mark Nyholm - AMSOIL Technical Product Manager for Heavy Duty.

To the Videographer: This isn't a wedding video: Can we see LESS of the Techs Face, and MORE of where / how this kit was installed at?

I wish amsoil made a filter relocation kit for the 6.7 cummins, the full flow filter is such a pain.

Wouldn’t it be less messy if you don’t mount the filter at an angle? I always figure that guys that design filters that mount at an angle, never change those filters themselves.

Hi Brian. I have a dual mount set-up on my vehicle with the filters positioned vertically. Even in this position, the oil in the lines is draining out as the filters are removed. The angle has no effect on the "mess". In this video, the filter mount was installed on an angle due to lack of room on the frame rail above the sway bar. Thank you for the question.

This video was confusing. You stated that you can get the feed for a 6.7 Cummins for the bypass filter off the top of the housing for the full flow filter. Then later you discussed the “puck” for the 6.7 Cummins as well for feeding the bypass filter. My amsoil 6.7 Cummins kit didn’t come with the puck. I’ll be calling Amsoil to verify.

Yes, when in doubt contact AMSOIL Tech Support with any questions you may have about a product. Check top of full-flow oil filter housing for two plugs. The AMSOIL Bypass System includes fitting options to replace one plug. If both plugs are not accessible, order optional part BK1104 ("puck"). See BMK34 Installation and Servicing Instructions below for more information. Here is a link to the BMK34 install instructions which would have been included in the kit you purchased: www.haldimandsyntheticoil.ca/doc/blog/BMK34-install.pdf

@@HaldimandsyntheticoilCa explain to me how routing oil after the full flow factory filter doesn’t starve engine from oil lubrication at crank bearings under pistons, piston wrist pins, cam shaft bearings, lifters, pushrods. And why if it didn’t do this mopar wouldn’t already be using their own system but aren’t. And warning against it with voiding their warranty.

@@Jon-O. Basically, oil flow passes through the existing full flow oil filter as per normal, flow not affected and oil pressure not affected. Where an oil bypass line is installed to a port, a portion (metered) of oil flow is routed through the bypass oil filter, on its own. Kits where the mount contains both full flow oil filter and bypass oil filter, oil flow passes through each filter separately. Again, metered oil flow passes through the oil bypass filter since it cannot handle full oil pressure/flow. I agree, if the oil bypass filter were installed as you describe, there would be serious issues. As for vehicle manufactures stating that the use of aftermarket equipment can void the vehicle warranty, that's something they have always had in place, regardless of equipment in question.

@@HaldimandsyntheticoilCa I think you are misunderstanding what I’m asking. With out a bypass system installed the engine receives 100% full flow after pushing through the “full flow filter”. So if the bypass system takes only ten percent of the full flow essentially that means the engine only receives 90% of flow. This seams like this may be a issue over time. Question is, is the soot more damaging to the bearings and races than the reduction in 10% flow?

@@Jon-O. To my knowledge there have not been any issues of oil starvation with the use of AMSOIL Bypass Systems, when properly installed. The vehicle I drive has had an oil bypass system for about 10 years. No signs of ill effects.

There seems to be 100's of these bypass installs on youtube. But very few results videos. The one or two results videos I've seen didn't seem to be very good. The oil stayed jet black. So until I see more positive results I'm voting no on this one. And I'm seeing a lot of install videos with comments turned off ?!?!?! Hmmmm ?!?!!?!?

Why is the oil turning black? Good Question. The "black" - diesel soot particles suspended in the oil which are sub-micron in size. The bypass filter is not able to remove it. A bypass filter will not catch these particles unless they agglomerate or reside in the 1 to 2 micron range (AMSOIL bypass filter efficiency). Although diesel engine oil tends to discolor due to the sub-micron soot particles which get by filters, these small particles cause very little wear due to the smallest engine clearances of about 5-10 microns. By keeping your oil filtered to the 1 to 2 micron range you are greatly extending the life of your engine reguardless of oil color. As well, motor oils contain dispersants to keep those soot particles separated and suspended to prevent them from causing wear. Hope this helps.

This was my concern upon doing my first oil change with bypass installed. Oil was still black. After reading the Amsoil's representative reply. I guess it makes since. I still would have liked to have seen a visual effectiveness of the result. I use Blackstone for my analysis. I'll see once my report gets back.
