In this video I am going to talk about all the benefits of bypass oil filters.
I will give a couple reviews on different systems and talk about some strategies to save you money, and extend your equipment life.
If you choose to run a bypass oil system, oil sampling is a must. Even if you don't want to extend your oil change intervals, you can still realize benefits of bypass oil filtration.

    Great video. You might even be able to run that bypass filter longer than 20,000 miles. A trick I picked up from another Amsoil dealer ... try feeling that filter carefully mind you don't get burnt , but try feeling it. they generally will fill the media with contaminants from the bottom up so usually as the filter begins to fill with contaminants the bottom part of the filter will be cooler than the top part of the filter and you can kind of use that as a rough and dirty method to figure out when the filter is nearing full capacity. But again like you said do what works for you glad you are protecting your engine!

    I always liked the ideas of these, my concern is that if the bypass filter is removing things down to very small particles, couldn’t it skew the results of an oil sample and hide things like excessive wear or an ongoing internal failure? Ex: the bypass filter is removing the metals from a failing main bearing.

  • @DIYSEMI

    @DIYSEMI

    Жыл бұрын

    I understand your concern. Another theory is that by keeping those smaller partials out of the oil, it keeps those wear causing particles from causing that main bearing to fail. Yes I also understand there are other causes of bearing failure. You will still see if your wear metals are elevated if you take the sample before the filter

    Some Detroit engines have gone over a million miles with no oil drains using the Gulf Coast paper towel filters. Ii think the reason they can do that is the make up oil added at filter change. Engines need enough new oil added. Shell oil was studying a Series 60 Detroit with 1 million miles with 1 oil drain. One engineer made the remark that it's not unusual for these engines to go a million miles but not be in near new condition. I was talking about it on a forum. Road King called me and asked for the owners phone number. They did an article on it. Pepsi of Gulfport Mississippi owned it for a long time and sold it to a guy that hauled motorcycles. He agreed to let Shell keep the testing going. They tear it down measure the parts put it back together and put the used Rotella back in. One time someone forgot to tell a mechanic to save the used oil.

    4 жыл бұрын

    I had a c15 back in 2003 that i put a gulf coast filter on. I cant remeber where i plumbed the return to. Probably the oil pan. For the supply i found an extra plug in the oil galley i remember it was in behind the oil dipstick on the block. I know that doesnt help much, but im sure someone in here can be more specific. There are a few extra plugs in the oil galley on the motor. As long as you dont tap into the supply line for a component, it should be fine....i.e. Dont tap the supply line for the turbo. Im sure you already know it though.

    On the bypass filter you do not need to. You can if you want though. The reason you can get away with not doing it is due to the very low flow rate.

    There seems to be 100's of these bypass installs on youtube. But very few results videos. The one or two results videos I've seen didn't seem to be very good. The oil stayed jet black. The oil will always go black. Discoloration is not contamination. It's like trying to filter the color out of Kool aide. I have oil samples to compare before and After. That's really the only way to compare. Really nothing more to show than that. I have torn down my cat that ran a bypass, before KZread. No deposits or sludge. Minimal wear after 900k miles. Needed a head gasket. Not a real exciting topic

    I like your videos and learn from you but I think you are off on the science @ 8:40. You want to take oil from the oil pan to see how the system is working. That is the oil you engine is seeing/using. The super filtered oil might or might not flow and clean as good as the manufacturer says.
