    Good advice! I wish when I bought my 1st tank 25 years ago I wish I could have seen this video. Way before you tube. I bought a 55 gallon tank and 55 fish. You know the 1 per gallon crap we used to believe. Nobody at Petsmart explained the cycle to me. I set the tank up that night and the next morning I added the fish. Needless to say it didn’t go well. It was total carnage! Crazy thing is the 1st fish I bought was a moonlight Gourami. He grew to 6 inches and ended up surviving and living over 10 years! Tough fish to survive my stupidity!

    I’ve been battling ammonia and nitrites for 5 months now. I have a betta which was my first then later added a mystery snail because I was getting algae growth, in hope’s my mystery snail would eat but not much. Then I added 3 red Corys and a nerite snail in the 10 gl and still high ammonia. My betta got pop eye, swollen mouth and a bump on its head. I started to cycle another tank and put them all in it because levels were low and after a week ammonia and nitrites were up, in the mean time my older tank was still cycling and levels were 0 I put them back only to have a ammonia spike again. So I’m on my third day of changing 10% water changes. I believe my problem is I’m still feeding them too much. My mystery snail has to eat. So today is the first day of no feeding. I’ve been using treated water, plus stability, seed and ammonia block. I do have a few plants but I lost all plants. It’s been a nightmare and very costly as I took my fish to the emergency vet. I’m going to separate the betta and place him in his own tank once it’s cycled. They all seem healthy including my betta after a couple of weeks of methylene blue treatments 2x a day for 20 minutes, all due to poor water quality. I’m new to this and I couldn’t imagine having a bigger tank. I’m ready to hang up the towel. But after listening to your video I will take those tips and apply them. Thank you. By the way my nitrates are at 20 ppm, and doing frequent water changes my tank mates seem ok.

    Thank you for the information, I just got a 10 gallon planted tank for my betta. I have two others and I never cycled them I just put "stress coat" in the water let the tank cycle for only a day and put the fish in no problems. (I did not know the proper process then) With this tank I put "stress coat" in every gallon of water I put in the tank. I then put prime and stability into the tank. First day perfect no problems second the same but the third I woke up and he's left fin only was clamped on his body and had a little a bit of red in it almost like he popped a blood vessel. he's been a little lethargic just sitting around. I checked the ammonia levels and it was between a 1 and a 2. Any ideas why this happened to this tank but not my other tanks. (sorry for the long message)

    Hi , I’m doing a fish in cycle ( cause I have no other option at the moment ) , I’ve put my giant female blackmoor in her new tank , that is onky 3 days old , ammonia today is at 1 per million , yesterday nitrates were pretty high but got down and nitrates were showing up . I’am using sponge filter from one of my other tank , that’s a 3 years old sponge filter from a perfectly established tank , so full of beneficial bacteria, still the ammonia today builded up probably cause I made the mistake to feed her yesterday .I’m using prime , I had no idea there was a powder version of it that worked better . So my question is , you reckon it’s too late to order safe via Amazon ? Cause it will take some days to arrive , is prime not good enough ? I thought prime was a good way to detoxify the ammonia but now I have the doubt that it’s not good enough . I may try to see if some shops has “safe “ ? Gosh I’m confused now ... what can I do ? Harriet the blackmoor acts normal . No issues at all , she’s pretty huge , still I’m worried , I’ve had her for 3 years and surely I don’t wanna lose her . Later I’ll put some other dirt from another filter of another tank ( I have 3 cycled tanks beside this new one ) .

    First time watching one of your videos. Excellent information, straight forward right to the point. Keep up the good work. Going to use your recommendations to try and solve my recurring ammonia problem. I also have water that keeps dropping in ph for unknown reasons. Any ideas I have a 10 gallon freshwater tank with three small angel fish and four small zebra fish? I do frequent water changes, do not overfeed and change the filter when needed.

  • @corystheboss

    @corystheboss

    3 жыл бұрын

    I would imagine it’s over stocking. For zebra fish, you want to usually have 2 gal per fish, and then angel fish are notorious for needing space. Especially vertical. It’s possible your fish are creating more ammonia than the filter can handle. Also, just a tip, for some reason zebra fish like odd numbers. Schools of 5,7, or 9. It for some reason allows them to build a better social hierarchy.. if you find they are being aggressive with each other, perhaps move them to a tank with more room and add a tank mate or 3.

    My guppies keep dying. I think i was overfeeding them and i thinks a lot was settling on the bottom. I dont have any bottom feeders in tank, just betta and guppies(guppy now, had nine, one left) and i am feeding them leftover cichlid pellets from my old fish which i crush between 2 spoons, some floats but some of it sinks to bottom and develops like a fuzzy mould looking thing around it. I recently did a big tank clean, heeaps of crap came out from under the rocks, only one has died since but was soon after clean so maybe she was already sick?
