Earlier when i happened to listen Amitji's song, I really liked his voice, I didnt know Amit kumar ji is son of Kishore da. I used to think that Amit Kumarji was contemporary to Kishore da n his career could not blossom that much bcoz of the monopoly of Kishore da.

Very nice to get confirmed from him that Kishore Kumar charged more than Lata Mangeshkar. India Today’s dated February 15, 1981 cover story on Lata Mangeshkar mentioned her rate to be ₹ 25,000, while others (according to the same story) settled for ₹ 15,000. May be she charged ₹ 25,000, but Kishore Kumar must be charging even more. Even the India Today dated November 30, 1987 mentioned Lata Mangeshkar’s fee to be ₹ 30,000 and Kishore Kumar’s fee to be ₹ 25,000 which does not appear to be correct considering this interview. The number of Kishore Kumar’s songs released from 1973 to 1988 were more than Lata Mangeshkar’s in each of these years. In fact in 1987 Lataji got only 19 songs to sing which was less than 1/4th of 78 songs sung by Kishore Kumar and less than 1/6th of 122 songs sung by Asha Bhosle in the same year.

While there were Rafi, Mukesh, Kishore, there was only one Lata. Imagine how she ruled the roost in the male-dominated industry. With due respect, he is Kishore Da's son, he will definitely say this. But even if you go by his statement, you can understand Lataji's stature at any point of time. What if she also did the same and charged higher for the next song? Magazines published the truth, not once but multiple times. Frankly, it is futile to even discuss this topic. They all are greats. But one thing you should have known as an observer of music, Lataji reduced her work load as she was heavily demanded for concerts in late 80s. She sang what she wanted to, not what she was given. Everyone wanted her. That's the universal truth, which all composers and singers agree.

Even I didn't know that these two songs were sung by Amit Kumar... I always thought it was Kishore Kumar...

He had sung numerous mindblowing songs like 'Dekho maine dekha hai ek sapna', 'Ye zameen ga rahi hai', 'Dil ke aasman pe gham ki ghata chahi', 'Dushman na kare', 'Kehdo ki tum', 'Ek do teen', 'Tirchi topiwale', 'Sanam mere sanam', 'Jao tum chahe jahan', 'Kaisa lagta hai', 'Tip tip tip barish shuru ho gayi' (one of my favourites), 'Tere liye saari umar jaagu', 'Kajal kajal teri aankhon ka', etc. Amazing singer, indeed.
