I saw the Amish everyday in KY. We liked to buy furniture and food from them. The mennonites also lived there. Our community was so small that it was impossible not to mingle with them. They were always nice and funny too.

That's what I thought too, but its really hard leaving that life behind as some amish people will not talk with family if they leave. We think they have it easy, or the grass looks greener on the other side, but nowhere is easy.

I grew up in Amish Country, they really are wonderful people, I was the big English to them..baled hay for them...they didn't pay much, but had a feast when the bales were put up. The kids were just kids, in school we didn't talk about Tv shows or radio. But on July 20th 1969, my dad and I sat up and watched the moon landing with a whole group of Amish school friends. Seems when it's history, Rules can be broken.

I grew up in in rural Ohio the omish are wonderful people and should be respected 100%

A few summers ago I went to Lake Erie with my family, I don’t know how to swim but I will get in a little near shore of course, there was an Amish family in the water asking me to come farther out with them and they would show me how to float, I was scared of the water and they helped me overcome it that day, we all laughed and joked that I never learned to swim, I’ll never forget that day. I’m still afraid of the water but they made it very bearable that day ❤

I've love to visit this place... so relaxing, calm ❤

As soon as they left the Amish church they were disowned by their entire family, parents, brothers sisters, grandparents, everyone. It is especially true with the old order amish they condemn anything worldly.

i used to live in maryland, near Pennsylvania, i think (maybe) its one of the places with the most amish in the us, we went often to farmers market, i liked seeing the horses, farms, everything, i moved to Illinois in august and ive seen theres also amish here so i might visit and find a farmers market

It’s a wonderful place to be an very special place and nothing like being there I get so sad when it’s time to come back home to the city one day i will move down by there an buy a home am some land to grow things an help people and just be out of the city ya no!! Unfortunately they are not exempt from all of the evil in the world. There is Instances of pedophilia and things here too. I saw a video on youtube and watched a podcast about one story where two brothers went to prison because they were taking turns with their sister. And because of the way they live their life and how they are so silent about everything And because she's female she kept quiet because she would likely be abused if she spoke about it. They finally got it figured out and the Brothers are In prison now. But unfortunately she is still with her family and is still Amish, and because of the way they live their lives she is probably being made to. Believe that it is her fault that the brothers are in prison..

I remember I went to Yellowstone 2 years ago, and while we were hiking back up from the waterfall, a group of Amish women passed by. It was the first time I ever saw Amish, and not gonna lie, I thought it was mad impressive that they could wear traditional Amish attire while hiking down a steep slope in pretty hot weather.

They actually do use electricity washing machines they use have electricity and some of them don’t but some do some even use phones and cell phones so no not all abide by those rules they are actually quite free of rules and aren’t forced

It might be a topic you’re interested in learning more about. There are some documentaries and news articles about it. I would recommend it, since it isn’t often talked about. Lancaster Amish are the most liberal when it comes to rules.

There are hundreds of Amish communities. They are not monolithic. Each sets their own rules. Some are conservative and some allow some modern things.
