While it didn't impact the game all that much, there were a lot of questionable actions this game, like the feud between the abzan lifegain deck and Zurgo and the Nekusar player deciding to have an extra second main phase after declaring he "moved through his phases" and got Rifted in response. If a player says they are going to move through their phases and I decide to Rift because of it, that Rift is being cast on their end step and I don't see any other way to interpret that. This came off like the Nekusar player changed their mind after being Rifted and backtracked their turn

Had the same thought. Similarly the counterspell ending up back in the Nekusar player's hand. Rules mistakes happen, but when they're repeated and from the player that wins it leaves a bad taste in my mouth. Two other players watching the Neukusar player's board explode as they continued to hit each other was poor threat assessment, but they reaped what they sowed as the first two out.

Not to mention he got an extra mana reduction from the nightscape familiar that was not caught. The first time he cast Nekuzar he only paid 3 mana. It didn't affect that turn but a few turns later it did when he cast silent arbiter with a reduced Nekuzar. And those spells after rift was really questionable too.

You respond to moving to the end-step, not the end-step. Meaning if someone responds they're still in their second main.

If the player who cast the Cyclonic Rift didn’t question it then he couldn’t have casted it during the end step. Because if he did he would’ve pointed that out. It is always important to remember we don’t hear the exact conversation the players are having so things may sound different to us then what actually happened The counterspell thing seems to be a legit mistake that didn’t really matter cause he still had a counterspell in hand.

You know Prince of Thralls seems kind of similar to a recent magic card. Tergrid, God of Fright. You know as long as you ignore the 8 vs 5 mana, 3 color vs 1 color, and ability for opponents to choose what you get vs EVERYTHING. Or it can be Torment of Scarabs that lets you target more than 1 opponent, but with the added bonus of letting you win with infinite mana. It really makes you look at card design in the modern era.

Prince of Thralls says any permanent an opponent controls that enters a graveyard from anywhere (including stuff they took control of). Tergrid, God of Fright requires that they sacrifice or discard nontoken permanents. Tergrid is definitely strong, but Prince is also strong. The two main balancing factors are paying life to mitigate the takeover and the mana cost. And, in commander, Tergrid can be your commander while Prince cannot. With all that taken into account, Tergrid is better. Edited for clarity.

Beyond the fact that it's Nekusar and he'll just make the game miserable and win uncontested if given any amount of time to set up, but you're telling me a group of players saw a guy start with T1 land > Sol Ring > Signet and *didn't* consciously decide to make his life as difficult as possible from the get-go? This was kinda a dumb game. Two players got in a feud, the other got mana screwed, and Nekusar just got to build up unopposed. I play mostly aggro decks so I know you generally wanna take someone out quick, but that's only true if you have a way to actually kill the other opponents. If you laser focus one person over several turns you leave them no other option but to focus the majority of their resources fighting you, that's why I believe you SHOULD spread your attacks until you have enough power to kill someone in one or two turns. The other not so big brain move is not choosing Nekusar as your choice target in the first place. It's a defense heavy deck that focuses and killing you indirectly. With any defense heavy stax deck you're on a time limit to kill because late game it's gonna be extremely hard to get hits in as we saw as Nekusar constantly had a blocker to stick Zurgo and make him do nothing.

Technically, nekusar is the one dealing damage due to all the card draws. It should technically mean that everyone’s taking tons of commander damage throughout the entire game.

You aren't the first person to mention this, but sadly that's not how commander damage works. Rule 9 of the EDH / Commander ruleset states: "If a player has been dealt 21 points of *combat damage* by a particular Commander during the game, that player loses a game."

@@MTGMuddstah ah, thank you for the clarification. I’m still quite new to commander, so it’s a bit confusing.

So many questionable choices... Keeping a one lander. 2 people hitting each other instead of a Nekusar that is way ahead not drawing of Tymna and some more others

This was an awful game. The Esper deck couldn't even get anything going for 6 turns while the Zurgo and Tymna deck just kept aggressively slugging eachother while the Nekusar player is like "ok. yeah"

Another Muddstah game where threat assessment is thrown off the cliff lol. Nekasaur sat there and watched you all kill each other. Some of these are getting less and less enjoyable with the stupid plays lol
