Great overview and discussion of both styles! The russian style should maybe be taken into context as well. The RKC/Strongfirst systems that include it uses the kettlebell snatch for developing the overhead stability, power generation and capacity for full extension. I think thats a sensible thing, especially taking into account that the snatch is a more advanced move that is thaught when control and kettlebell handling has been established. But the American style seems to have extra benefits for upper back mobility as well.

I don’t think you’re supposed to bend your elbows in the Russian version. Of course you are the expert but I’ve been doing kettlebell workouts for a long time. I learned the form from Paul Katami. I am honestly just asking. I don’t mean to be disrespectful.

I myself also do bended elbows. The reason for this is because it's easier on your back. But whatever way you choose is not wrong.

I personally prefer bending my elbows during 2 hand swings. There are videos on straight arms vs bent arms. It really comes down to personal preference. I

The american swing seems pretty dangerous if you use a really heavy kettlebell

I do American swings to shoulder level. Low like that hardly does anything. Just saying.

Thinking about an abstract triangle to understand where my knees are and imagining eyes at the top of my head while being pulled by a virtual mohawk, while also NOT thinking about a battering in my hips, in front of an imaginary wall but without a battering ram. Blablablabla. I still haven’t heard a legit reason to two arm-swing overhead, aside from scoring points in Crossfit. If you only have one weight and it’s too light, then do one arm swings. If you want to swing overhead, then do snatches. The American swing is an abomination, prove me wrong. Unnecessary risk of injury with no added benefit.
