@@HlspwnsWorld kind of necroing your comment here but this is absolutely true, years ago I played ATS in vr for the first time and the sheer awareness you gain in vr is unfathomable; game's practically unplayable without it for me.

This video references Windows mixed reality headsets, steam headsets, or VR headsets that are not Oculus. If you own an Oculus HMD you need to change the game launch option as below -oculus -oculus instead of -openvr, will allow Oculus users to play in VR :]

Dont run depth of feild in vr mate.. in any game. Cause blurrs you dont need. Also oculus users be sure to check force 45hz in ur oculus tool tray options to stop the judder road and traffic, been doing it few years never had an issue that was back on a 1080 and also now on a 3060. Hope that helps someone

Thanks for the comment, I'll have to take a look at this depth of field as quite a few people have said not to run it. With it on I do not find any issues, need to see the difference with it off.

@@welshrifty2903 My first headset was the rift, I’ve always had a better experience with Oculus’s software tbh and would favour there pricing in the future. Hopefully Meta(Oculus) or Valve bring out a HMD with the lenses and clarity of the Varjo Aero for a reasonable price next year, as I think that will truly be next generation VR. Can I ask what mods you run? Interested as I have never modded either ATS or ETS.

same as for setting up for oculus then but using -openVR instead of -oculus. wasnt sure if the G2 used open VR as none of WMR HMD is listed for it. as my Rift S wont boot up sound only ive been playing on a flat scren the last week and its annoying cause i cant turn my head to see whats around me and use the mirrors have to use the mouse then fiddle around trying to get it centred again and crashing lol. Just had an email from the G2 seller new stock will be in friday or monday and he is sending mine out next week so ill be back into VR soon. So much better playing ATS and ETS 2 in VR far more realistic and with the G2 road signs will be clearer than the rift S. From the reviews ive seen the G2 is actualy clearer than using a flat screen if u get the settings and IPD correct. Might be best to turn off DOF as that can cause probs in VR if its ticked as thats for flat screens not VR. scaling just fiddle around with to to get the best for u. some say 100% others have it higher. i Have mine on 300% for the rift S but might have to tinker around to get it better for the G2. depends on what ur rig can handle. same with other settings some might work best on low settings some might work fine on high/ultra settings. same with anti aliasing some recomend having it disabled for VR. but i find having it on low is clearer. again that will depend on the HMD and ur rig.

I did not know about not having the DOF not selected. It’s the default setting so I have never changed it. I know it does not take that much to run ATS or ETS especially on the flat screen, but go steady with the scaling. Running VR at 4K takes a massive toll on the GPU. I have a 3080Ti on the way so I’ll be interested to see if I can max the settings finally? The G2 is the clearest headset I’ve owned and I’m not kidding when I say the image almost looks as good as the flatscreen. It’s not all roses though, and I just want to warn you about the WMR quirks. Launching in VR always works, but you must make sure that you’re in the WMR portal before you start. If you launch the game from within the steam VR portal it projects the game on a huge screen in front of you instead of being in the truck. You will also find that if ATS is not the window in focus, the sound nor none of the controls work. ATS will not show a working mirror while playing, so if you want to record or stream you will need to use the steam vr mirror. The WMR portal only does 1080p and is bloody useless imo. Oculus has a far better eco system, and using WMR is like going backwards. If the headset was not so clear and cost effective I would have got rid of it. It’s a pain in the arse for trying to create content with.

@@HlspwnsWorld You have to uncheck the option that says "Use Desktop Game Theatre while SteamVR is active" in the general properties, then you can start ATS from SteamVR and still be in the cabin instead of having the game projected on a big screen.

Should I change my resolution in American truck sim to the same resolution my quest2 it? When I load in, it's very Pixelated and the resolution is 1920x1080

In most VR games the resolution of the HMD will be what’s set in Oculus\steam VR settings. The resolution in the graphics settings of the game generally refers to the VR mirror resolution. How ever the actual graphics settings will directly affect what’s displayed in the HMD. My advice would be to experiment, you won’t break anything, you just risk your VR experience coming to a stuttering mess. I would try and match the resolution of your HMD, if it won’t go any higher than 1080p, then most likely this is the max resolution of your monitor. To improve the visual quality of what’s in the HMD, start changing the graphics settings. Just remember the higher the settings the more of an FPS cost and load you will put on the GPU. The trade off is getting the best visual quality over trying to maintain as near as 90FPS as possible

If any one got oculus n have lag n rubber band effect n can’t get rid of it I tell u a trick raise your buffer scale up in config file by default it’s 1.0 change that to 2.2 n start game if u got oculus hold right control and press num pad (1) while in game make sure numpad lock is off keep in game scaling on 150 or 200 nothing lower then 150 nothing higher then 200 for me I use 200 to match config file 2.0 or 2.2 just so u understand my point I lag in vr on 1.0 n up some so I jump to 2.2 n notice how but better it looks but crazy part is it runs so smooth 95 % lag gone but when I lower it lag n rubber band effect is back so I put bk to 2.2 n it’s gone I also have a gtx 1070ti my launch option for game is -oculus but u can try -openvr but the first one works better for me witch is -oculus

I don't know what i do wrong... But i can't get ATS working in vr. I have done the setup in this tutorial and added the -Oculus in general properties as well. But the game keeps starting in normal mode regards the setting. Anyone knows a solution or did i miss something?

Okay so I am using -openvr to run on my quest 2 ci a link cable, it seems to work fine, but the render distance is horrible, very pixelated, is there a way to fix this? I tried using -oculus but the game loads normally rather than on my headset.

The only way to improve this is to get a better GPU and max the graphical settings. Or to get a higher resolution VR headset, and manage the trade off between FPS and image clarity. VR is currently limited on how far you can see in to the distance anyway. So don’t expect real life comparison. Personally the only way things have ever improved for me was getting a more powerful GPU.

I've followed this video and can't get ATS to open in VR w/ the Reverb G2. Has any recent ATS patch messed things up?

Sorry in the delay. Tested tonight all is working fine. Although there can be a situation where if your not familiar with pc's you may think it's not working when it actually is, there are a few little stumbling blocks to get over. I will do a new video as this may be catching people out.

@@ELDoro Everyone’s setup is different so not sure tbh what your particular problem is. Does it even launch in the HMD? I find with mine that it sometimes loads and you get a black screen. I need to press F12 to centre the VR. But because ATS is not the window in focus the keyboard does not work. Hit the windows key, click on the ATS.exe in task bar, soon as the window is in focus audio kick in the headset, can then centre the VR and start the sim

Definitely not just more. Without the anti aliasing the image is not crisp and distant objects are more difficult to read. Imagine the anti aliasing as like a sharpness filter. We all have our own perceptions, but people who claim that because this is a 4K HMD you don’t need AA imo are misguided.

So I can see the desktop ATS screen in my Quest2 but it does not go full screen in the headset and does not headtrack.... I am stumped It seems that the headset is only moving the cursor on the screen.

Check out the other comments, seems a few people have had issues on the quest 2, but people have got it working. Think it depends on the link cable and how you launch it? Are you launching through steam vr?

These comments don't really help me since I'm TRYING to play ATS via an Oculus Quest 2 using Virtual Desktop. All -openvr does is put me in a weird ass theater mode... and typing -oculus does literally nothing for me. HOW do you get this to work with the Quest 2 via Virtual Desktop??

I did the steps that you said and I got the game to start up but when I start up the game I can’t remove the laptop screen from the headset when it’s time to drive. I’m in the cabin but that screen keeps me from seeing what’s in front of me. Could you help me out please. Ok losing out on money 💰 lol. Thanks 🙏🏾

Make sure you put the vr headset on as soon as you start the game from steam, and already have the WMR portal running before you start the game. Hope this helps

Yes I finally was able to drive, so now I added on the coast to coast mod and for some reason it keeps kicking me out the beginning of the load up screen. Why is that, would you happen to know.

mine doesnt launch to my vr. Reasons?

I use the Pimax 5k Super and can not get my images to line up in VR. I’ve done everything and watched every video I can no one apparently has a pimax outside of flight/racing sim

@@HlspwnsWorld so you get ready to play the game. Everything loads up, but instead of both pictures being 1 picture (vr screens are individual screens) both screen will have the picture up. Making it look like your face to face with 2 monitors.

That’s so odd. Does windows think your HMD is two screens? I’d run VR then see how many displays windows thinks there are.

recently got a quest 2 and want to play this in vr. but the controllers that come with teh quest are not being registered. is there something i need to do to allow me to use the controllers within the game?

I would use a wheel, or an Xbox controller. I have never tried with VR controllers tbh. I think you would struggle to assign enough buttons, for all the settings.

Are you using the HP reverb G2? If so check in the WMR that you have the max resolution set. Also what resolution is your monitor? Do you have multiple monitors?

It lets me look around in ATS while in VR but I cant use my steering wheel or pedals (mouse and keyboard work). Im confused because the wheel and pedals worked just fine before I launched it in VR and just played on my monitor

It’s hard to think back, because once the inputs are setup you should not have to change them. I would just bring up the settings and check the control bindings. I can’t remember if VR\Flat have different settings?

@@therealestrx3707 Have you tried running from cmd shutdown /S . Start back up and try again. Sometimes weird quirks happen. Hard shutdown, power back up. The have you turned it off and back on again works 98% of the time.

You need to give steam chance to download the beta options. Swapping between different beta’s will cause the game to download that beta and apply it. For example the latest public beta 1.47 in not available in vr. The vr version is 1.46, swapping between the two will cause the game to reinstall to the beta that your running

@@HlspwnsWorld I did, thank you. Unfortunately, there's not a lot of information on troubleshooting it. With an Oculus CV2 I had to use -Openvr. I couldn't use -Oculus in the launch settings. Also, had to disable Run in Theater Mode. I edited the .ini file and downloaded Oculus Tray Tool to better optimize the performance and it's still a bit choppy. I'm sure the choppyness is from me running only one sensor though.

Hello and than you for the video. Can you tell me please, when you are launching the game in VR, the mixed reality portal app, is opening as well? Because in my case, when I'm launching the game in VR, mixed reality portal and windows mixed reality are opening both in the same time. And about settings I have almost all setting on high and ultra and I think the game is rending at 30 fps, maximum, although I have a rtx 3080 ti.

Yes it’s annoying that WMR portal is open, as well as the windows\steam app. It’s one of the downsides to having WMR headsets. Oculus or steam headsets only use their native programs, although you can get games to work with both. Regarding the sim running at 30fps, I’d just check your settings as every system varies. Make sure your not capping the frame rate in drivers or software. If that does not help, play around with the graphics settings until you can get a decent balance on fps.

I'd rather say that the game is not optimized for VR. I am playing Half Life Alyx with everything on ultra and the experience is absolutely stunning. 🙂😍

Go back to basics. Does the headset work in other vr games? Are all the cables plugged in securely. Have you checked the boot option in steam?

I got the VR working, but how do I record/stream it. My monitor just shows a black screen.

Quest 2 users do seem to have a lot of trouble launching the sim. I don’t know if it’s true (Don’t own a quest 2) but others have suggested using -openvr instead of -oculus

Mine doesn't load into headset unless I'm actually driving the truck. Every time I open map it kicks it to desktop view. Then use mouse.

I got it to work only prob now is the GPS is in front of the steering wheel how do I move it out of the way or turn off?

You need to write to Meta (Oculus) and say there is this guy on KZread who would really benefit from having one of your latest headsets. He could then test and help make further videos for the trucking community. The the reason I’m saying this, is because they will not listen to me because my subscriptions are too low.

May be worth googling this, somewhere in the steam settings there is an option to be able to participate in beta programs. If that's not selected probably why it null.

@@rednil5332 It does the same on mine. I can see ATS in the vr headset, but I’m not sure the game has a mirror. You can display the steam VR mirror instead. It’s the steam VR mirror that I record for the videos.

You may not be able to change it. Really depends on the HMD and monitor in use.

I'm not sure if this is still important but I have noticed that you are saying -openvr is all you need which might be incorrect as far as those folks like myself who own Oculus Quest 2 headsets. Shouldn't you be explaining this since the title of your video only says VR, and the correct line to put if you are on an oculus is -oculus instead of -openvr Please take a look at your title, and change it so we those using oculus won't be watching your video for our particular headset. I do wish to thank you for doing a video showing your video settings which is very, very important. Thanks again for taking the time to make the video.

I have gone back and watched my video as it was a while ago. Although I did mention this guide references the HP Reverb G2, windows mixed reality, and steam VR headsets, I do understand how some Oculus users could be confused by the pure reference to VR. As you asked so nicely, and you have made a very fair observation, I will change the title and point Oculus users to the chat. I’m sure I can add a comment in the video using the KZread tools as well, but I will have to look in to that.

He said like 3 times that he was using an HP Reverb. About 99% of PC players are smart enough to understand that not _all_ advice works perfectly for _all_ people with _all_ setups. People who don't understand this generally play on consoles, not on PC (and there's nothing wrong with that).

No at the current time ATS does not have a functioning VR mirror. If you want to show what’s happening you need to use the oculus or steam mirror instead

Maybe you can help me here. I have an RtX 2060 super, which may be why I am having issues, but I can’t get it to load up smoothly. Very stuttery and laggy. Would this be because of my GPU? I know you must be running a heavy duty GPU in order to run those settings. Also. If I type in the suggested -openvr under launch settings, then my game will not load in the headset. It will say “up next” but nothing happens. If I leave the launch settings blank, then it will load, but is extremely laggy as stated previously. My reprojection ratio is also going through the roof. It is peaking at 86%.

When it’s loading “up next” hit F11 and it will convert to HMD view

how do i get the resolution over 1080 p?

When using VR the HMD will always display at its full resolution unless you have altered the scaling in steam VR or screen resolution in the WMR software. The resolution in the game when linked with VR would be the mirror resolution. If your monitor or display is only 1080p it won’t go any higher than what your displays max resolution is. If you have the power to run a 4K VR headset, highly recommended getting a 4K display as your missing out on the high end 2D experience

I have done it all with the quest 2 and nothing has worked for me :(

@@HlspwnsWorld I am Planning on getting my CDL and I wanted to try this game with the Quest 2 I got a driving wheel and everything. I will just continue to play with it with the screen :(

I would suggest reading through the comments, most people have found a way using the oculus or open vr settings

But if i don't have the game on steam, how can i start it in vr?

As far as I know ATS and ETS2 are only available on steam, so how would you have the game on pc? Please elaborate

@@CrushingRiffsWreckords Does it come with a serial \key? If so I would try putting that into steam to register the game. I have managed to do this with some old titles, but it’s not guaranteed to work. If that does not work, only thing I could suggest is to look out for the steam sales. ATS can be purchased for as little as coffee ☕️ Or contact SCS to see if there is any way you could exchange for a steam key, as long as it’s a legitimate copy.

Never used convoy my self, but I can't see why not. Its the sim your running in VR, and its part of the sim. Should be good

I wish people can just go to the point and do the steps by step except for giving a 10 minutes explanation for each step out of the 80 steps

DOF definitely off, I run a 3070 FE and it runs smooth, only issue I have is distant AA

Weird as it’s the number one gaming platform that 99% of the time is absolutely seamless in running and keeping games up to date. Often has sales with very reasonable prices. It’s behind one of the best games of all time, imo. Obviously I don’t know your journey with the software, if that’s how you roll, you crack on.

@@HlspwnsWorld I mostly play MSFS or DCS in VR, every now and then some other games and the one thing I know for sure. As soon as steam is involved I loose performance. So I exclusively use Open XR and by directly from the developers shop. Just because steam is convenient for people who are on a playthingyplatform level, it does not mean it's good. imo and performance data. My 7800X3d and 4090 agree with that, aswell as my good old Vega56.

Very fair comments about MSFS and DCS, but steam VR is constantly being updated. With that setup I’m interested how much of a drop you get on the latest beta version of Steam VR? Personally I wish Microsoft would work with steam in the first place as the Microsoft store is terrible the minute you upgrade devices or drives because of the encrypted files. Anything screws up its a reinstall. I’ve had to do that twice with MSFS. Yeh I really get your concerns, but steam is so much more intuitive and user friendly.
