I used to play this for my 7 year old son when this first came out. I told him then, never run away from the police, always keep his hands in sight. Last year while he slept, police crashed into his bedroom, they drew their guns on him because he reached for his glasses in shock and fright. They had the wrong address. My son wasn’t shot. He was one of the lucky ones. And so it goes... I grieve for every mother who lost a son needlessly. Today, back then and sadly, tomorrow. This song should be played and played and played til change is achieved. RIP to all the victims

Most of us can speak our minds, selectively. Bruce is one of the few *celebrities* who has the stature, and gravitas, to speak out in public. He has been our greatest songwriter/performer for almost five decades, but has become much more. He is a major part of America's conscience.

When he plays it he dedicates it to people like Amadou Diallo and Trayvon Martin (at the show in this video). The cops in NY booed him over this song. This is a song that CLEARLY takes a side. Bruce understands you don't have to both-sides everything, man; there is an actual bad guy in this situation.

You just don't bet it. Its about police being trigger happy especially in the case of Black people . 12 yr old Tamir Rice was not a threat but rather a kid playing in a park. Keith Lamont Scott was sitting in his truck reading a book and was killed by police Sept. 20, 2016. and Terence Crutcher on Sept. 16, 2016 “Tulsa police release footage of officer killing unarmed black man with car trouble” by @PykeA thinkprogress.org/tulsa-police-release-footage-of-officer-killing-unarmed-black-man-with-car-trouble-f1c05e2ba570#.crelk9hwi … #LynchingByCop #BLM. see: “Terence Crutcher was left by the police to bleed and die. It happens a lot.” thinkprogress.org/police-medical-assistance-shootings-f13b85774f85#.4pcnd7tbv … #BlackLivesMatter #LynchingByCop If you have a heart and a conscience then it should break every time someone is gunned down by police as if they have the right to act as prosecutor, judge, jury and executioner. The good cops if they want respect then they should stop supporting Bad Cops . But Cops and their unions and even the DAS and justice sytem tend to label cops who tell the truth as snitches and not loyal to the Blue Bloods who are seen as above the law.

In my 71 years I've been to about 150 big time rock concerts. I've seen the Rolling Stones multiple times, including 1969, when they really were the Greatest Rock & Roll Band in the World, The Who, McCartney, REM, the Eagles, the Clash, Tom Petty, Dylan, Neil Young - pretty much everyone who is anyone - and Bruce. We can argue about the greatest living songwriter. Dylan, McCartney, Springsteen, Paul Simon, and a few others, but there is little disagreement about the greatest live performer. Industry insiders - critics, record company execs, promoters, other musicians,- and poll after poll of fans, conducted by Rolling Stone and other publications, consistently rank Bruce as the greatest live performer since the invention of amplification. He's 70 (in April, 2020). I don't know if he'll tour again, but he takes care of himself and played shows as long as four hours three years ago. I suggest that if he does, that you do whatever is necessary to experience one (or more) of his concerts (no two are alike). None of us knows for sure what our last thoughts will be when we're on our deathbeds but I'm quite certain of one thing I will *not* be thinking. "Damn, I saw too many Bruce Springsteen concerts," and I've been to 64.

The song is so great. But it's the sincerity of this performance that crept deep under my skin. Amazing arrangement & solo's. IMO, much better than the previously released live version of this song some ten years ago.

This song is still as relevant today as it was when Bruce wrote it in 1999 for Amadou Diallo, an unarmed and innocent man who was shot 41 times (isn't one bullet still enough to kill a single person?) by the NYPD for the color of his American skin.

Bruce cannot help it if he is prophetic in addition to being great; this tremendous song was written in late 1999, and I was in attendance for its debut performance on June 4, 2000 at Phillips Arena in Atlanta, GA.

I have been following Bruce since 1976 and have seen him and The ESB in concert so many times. This song is so POWERFUL, it gives me chills and saddens my heart and soul. Topping that off is when Jake stands close to where Big Man (RIP) stood and raised his hand to STOP THE KILLINGS of innocent Black men, women, and children. Yes, there are great police officers, it's the "trigger happy" officers that make the good ones look bad. With that being said, there have just been too many lives taken and this must stop!!! More and longer training of the officers. On another note, going to a Springsteen concert is like going on a rollercoaster ride. The feelings of sadness, pain, despair, hurt, loss, happiness, excitement, on and on. Bruce takes us with him on the "ride" we are all involved. I have met a lot of wonderful, kind, caring, giving people at Bruce's concerts. What we have in common is LOVE and RESPECT for each other and Bruce's music. As Bruce would say: WE TAKE CARE OF OUR OWN

Robert Rinaldi you need to listen to what he’s talking about, or even read the story of Amadou Diallo, who the song is about. I’ve heard that statistic that white people are shot more by police, but you need to look at the reasons why and if they’re justified or not. Trayvon Martin was killed just for walking with a hoodie on. If you think Zimmerman would’ve done the same to a white kid, you’re sorely mistaken.
