As an American who moved overseas and I am currently in Ireland, for some reason I was under the impression that Europe had far fewer wild landscapes. I imagined it was quite crowded with houses mostly everywhere. Honestly, Ireland is stunning, and I was kicking myself for having such obviously biased and incorrect preconceived notions. I was only left to wonder at myself because it should have been obvious that Ireland and all of Europe had these amazing wild, and beautiful natural landscapes. For some reason the high population and the fact it has always been occupied by historically written recorders who tell us in detail quite far into their past that every rock and tree had been tamed. But I wasn't thinking. It IS wild and beautiful here!

Ireland is stunning and has incredibly beautiful landscapes indeed! 🍀 To me it’s one of the most beautiful countries in Europe. It’s truly a nature lover’s (and loner’s) paradise. How I wish I could be there now! Ryan would love Ireland, too, because its green is even more lush than our green here in Germany 😉 But every European country is different and beautiful in its own right and worth a visit. I hope you‘ll find enough time to travel while living in Europe. Germany is not nearly as wild and open as Ireland, but still does have some stunning landscapes - as you can see in this video ;)

My dad was in the British Army and we grew up in various places in England, Germany and Cyprus. Each one of these countries has absolutely beautiful countrysides. I loved the hills, dales and rivers of Yorkshire (definitely where my heart is), but also the coastal towns, the mountainous areas of Cyprus as well as the beaches. Right now I live in an industrial area of Germany, in a large town, but living here with the Army as kids, we mostly lived in small towns (except for a time in Berlin when I was really small) in rural areas with lakes, rivers and fields.

I'm in contact with an American family who's son was taught in school The Netherlands doesn't have nature at all and only has concrete all over the country. I sent them pictures of the beautiful nature here but when he told his teacher he got punished because he went AGAINST what his teacher taught him. This is how you get those weird ideas when even teachers FORCE the nonsense onto their students.

@@Linda-hs1lk Oh my gosh, that’s ridiculous! I live in Germany, right next door to the Netherlands and can confirm that they have a lovely countryside and wonderful beaches.

I think many Americans don't "dare to visit" Europe because they fear the costs but honestly a week in Florida might just be more expensive than two weeks Europe including the flights. Compared to the US there are no "hidden costs" and there is always cheaper options for eating and sleeping, it not just expensive hotels or airbnbs that ripp you off, you pay what it says, there isn't much on top, you are not flooded with special offers taht turn out to be more expensive, you don't get a dazillion mails with offers and extras when you booked something. When I visited Florida I felt like I needed to pay twice for everything and I didn't even know why. The money just kept flowing away, never had that before. So what I'm saying is: stop thinking about it, start planning your trip to Germany, you clearly want to experience it for yourself. Think of all the Bavarian Brezn!

When I visited Florida I stayed in a hostel and unlike you said it was cheap and I payed what it said. Also restaurants etc. and also the flight.

The Waterfall is 470 m high (it is written next to the name in the video) which is roughly about 1540 ft

Berchtesgaden is a region in the very south east of Bavaria. It has very beautiful landscape and a pretty well known salt mine.

The salt mine is producing for "Bad Reichenhaller", a salt brand sold nationwide and to some countries in Europe... I've been there last week (there's a direct busline from Salzburg, where I live now)

Culture shock for me as a German, when I was flying over north-eastern Indiana. All the chess board landscape! Unbelivable. :)

Those boats you mentioned on the lake are actually rental boats that you can rent by the hour. They are either electric or you have to pedal. In either case they are not very fast and very silent so everyone can enjoy their time there undisturbed, including nature...

Highly recommend Videos on the Harz, Vulcanic Eiffel, Elbsandsteingebirge, Mecklenburger Seenplatte or our islands in the north and baltic sea. Very beautiful nature

This place is literally an hour away from my hometown. I think i was nearly 20 times there, and it never fails to impress me, whenever i got there. The boats on the lake are powered via electric engine, so that the lake doesnt get polluted. Its really a great place on earth, and you can hike for hours there, and see something new everytime you get there!

Königssee is something else. even in Germany. A famous Austrian painter by the name of Adolf used to hang out there a all the time.

Berchtesgadener Land is a district in the far south-east of Bavaria, Germany. This area is largely surrounded by Austria. Salzburg in Austria is already in sight (at least if you are standing on a mountain). There is also a national park in Berchtesgaden. The largest town in Berchtesgaden is located in Bad Reichenhall. In this area at the Königssee there is also the Obersalzberg mountain (on this mountain Hitler had his summer residence - today there is a museum with a memorial and a restaurant for tourists).

The green landscape in Germany has its price. The weather. Little sun and often continuous rain. For six months (from November to April), Germany is gray, dark, rainy and cold.

One main reason for the differences between our vegetation and yours over there in North America is the difference in climate. We have way milder climate (due to close sea regions, the warm Gulf Stream and the east-to-west-alignment of the Alpes) than you have over there. As far as I know, Indiana is right in the middle of North Americas huge landmass (so you do not have any warm sea streams like us in Europe) and your larger mountain areas are aligned north-to-south (Rocky Mountains) - yielding far more extreme temperature changes, blizzards from the north, tornados/hurricanes from the south etc etc. - That are things that the Alpes and other geological formations in Europe kind of mitigate (at least to some extend). Furthermore, the most part of the US is far more in the south than Germany - so a huge part of your country is in a completely different climate zone than we are. If interested, take a look at the Climate Zones by Neef. The whole story of vegetation, climate, seasons and much more is way more complicated than that - but it's still a good starting point for getting a deeper understanding of the differences between our and your surroundings :-)

@@uliwehner Germany has zones with different weather conditions. Most rain clouds come from the west. When they get blocked by the alps they get rid of their load right in front.... and that's the region we call pre-alps-region (Voralpenland). In contrast in my region (Frankfurt, Rhein-Main) we have a lot more sun hours per year and less rain. Berchtesgaden 1,430 mm / year, Frankfurt 540 mm / year.

We Are way More North over Here Too. Germay is roughly at the Same longitude as canada. Was greener planst than closer to Äquator

I think we can skip the specifik German Alps and simply talk about the Alps. In any country. They are truly amazing! I´d guess the only equivalent in the US are the Rockies. I live in Austria since many years now, but have also visited the Alps in other countries. For skiing, there is nothing like it. Hiking is also great - but please be careful in the mountains. During hiking season, there is not one day without someone taking a wrong step and falling to their death. Most often tourists, that overestimate their abilities and underestimate the power of the Alps. But sometimes it happens to experienced folks too. For this season alone, the Bergrettung (mountain rescue) in Austria went out over 300 times (that means choppers) in a three month period, to save people that got stuck or to find bodies of the fallen. Please visit! The sights, the air and the surroundings are stunning! Just have the proper respect for everything, talk to the locals and LISTEN to their advice.

As far as I know, the Appalachians are as green, especialy in the north, but not so rocky. And not all the Alps are covered with dark, green forests and meadows, the higher you come, the fewer the vegetation... What makes the German landscapes (also in many other european countries) so special is the mixture of nature and human signs like small villages, a little church at a crossroad, a castle ruin on a hilltop covered with trees, such things. The US has such world famous landscapes, now imagine you hike in the Grand Canyon, and behind the next corner is a taverne in a half-timbered house with letters over the door "Hunters Rest, est. 1488" 😁🍺

I am from Berchtesgaden. And you get a little bit used to the beauty, but I am always a little bit underwhelmed by other mountains in Austria and Germany. Dolomites are still stunning 😂

The gras is'nt greener in germany, it's just more moisturized. As you can see in your picture, there are a lot of dry gras inside the field (i think because of the different temperatures or different time of year) and thats make the complete different view.

Of cause the gras is mostly darker green in central Europe compared to the Great Planes and Mid West cos of different climate and thus more moisturized.

i had the hike of a lifetime there. from the chapel at the coast of the lake all the way up the Watzmann mountain. 7 hours of climbing

I moved from the german coastline up north, where everything is flat as well, to the center of Switzerland. So you kind of get the idea, what i was facing at the time. The Wurmberg of 3,000 ft was the highest i had gotten. And then this, haha. Though i have been on some mountains in the meantime. Including Pike's Peak in September 2016. US is also a beautiful place every now and then.

I grew up in another region in Bavaria, also in the mountains. But every time I go to Berchtesgaden it's a different world. Just 2 levels up in beauty.

Intrigued by your comment about the green nature I compared the climate in Indianapolis, USA and Berchtesgaden, Germany (just via the climate charts in Wikipedia). Note that Berchtesgaden already is higher up in a mountain valley and therefore colder than the lower altitudes in Germany. Average temperature in Berchtesgaden is 45°F / 7.2°C, which is colder than Indianapolis (53.6°F / 12°C). Berchtesgaden has 37% more rain (overall amount per year) which probably can explain the green nature. Coldest month is January for both places. Average temperature in January in Indianapolis is 28.5°F / -1.9°C. In Berchtesgaden: 27.1°F / -2.7°C. But the difference is much bigger in summer: July in Berchtesgaden is 14.5°F colder than Indianapolis ( = 8°C colder = 8 Kelvin). I also did a quick comparison with cities in the south of Germany (Munich and Stuttgart). Looks like Indianapolis has more rain (overall amount per year) but there are much more rainy days in southern German cities (32-42% more). Indianapolis also has more sunshine hours. So I guess in Indianapolis there is more heavy rain and the water flows away on the surface while in Germany it rains more often and the landscape has more time to soak all the water in. Just a guess. :-) As a German I think that the US has so much beautiful landscape as well. I mean, look at videos of US National Parks or mountains like the Rockys or Appalachians - or any crazy canyon - or the Niagara Falls. 🙂 I'm scrolling wikipedia articles for pictures right now. Very beautiful! Edith: Corrected some typos.

The gras in Berchtesgaden is greener because of more rain. As you can read on the website of the national park Berchtesgaden the anual rain ist 1500-2800mm (depends on the hight). For Colorado 380 - 640mm per year. (wikipedia) Last year we had a very very dry summer in germany and the gras looked like Colorado.

The grass and trees are greener in Central Europe, because despite being very far in the north, the climate is very moderate because of the Gulf Stream. This allows to have bigger leaves and still survive winter.

When I was around 25 I was in this area in winter skiing on the two mountains in the video Jenne and Watzmann. Berchtesgadener Land is the countryside around the town Berchesgaden.

Oh wow - was born and raised there - amazing to have an outsider‘s view on it. :)

I think that the grass looks more dark green in Germany then in the US because Germany is more north and has more moisture. It is on the same longitude then Canada. Even Bavaria is on the same longitude then sountern Canada. The US is more on the same longitude then Spain, Italy and Greece where the grass looks more light too. And sountern US is even on the same longitude then Afrika.

That will also depend on the season, but yes the climate zone and the latitude certainly play a role....... but there is something else, continental climate, in the middle of a continent it is often drier than on the coasts.. Europe is practically a peninsula surrounded on three sides with water, Europe is also supplied with a warm ocean current from the Caribbean, which evaporates a lot of ocean water (Gulf Stream)... and roughly in the middle are the Alps, which are the rain clouds, so to speak capture. So rain is not a problem, at least in northern Europe. Oh, and, mountains also provide rain shadows, the Rocky Mountains run from north to south almost through the middle of the USA, which is why the west is significantly drier.

Berchtesgardener land means the land arround berchtesgarden(town) königssee means kings lake

You can find this kind of landscape all across the Alps, not just in Germany.

The alps are also partly of Monaco (0,001%), Lichtenstein (0,05%), Slowenia (3,5%), Swiss (13%), France (21%) and Italy (27%). And of course most part of alps (29%) are in Austria! Austria would have more percentage share of the Alps since South Tyrol was part of Austria, but nowadays counts to Italy. Those countries are also called "Alpenländer" (= alp countries).

Germany isn't even a real Alpenland. Officially yes, but no one would go there for the Alps.

In 8th Grade we did a hike across the alps Like 14 days straight but it was probably the best "adventure" so far_

aah, my Bavaria....Greetings from Munich! 🤣 yes, some cows are living free, i once went for a walk with a friend in some old woods and a number of cows just randomly came along the path in the woods with no human keeper in sight, i touched them, they were very friendly and seemed to be used to meeting people in the woods, they also were walking in between trees.... : Munich tapwater by the way, also comes from the Bavaroan Alps and is better quolitywise than ANY European bottled mineral water, I read, i never ever bought bottled water in Munich just tap water from Bavarian Alps Nature Reserves for me!

Nice how you admire the green plant life in Germany - on the other side it rains VERY often here . . .

Germany is this green, because it is so far in the north compared to america. Its as far in the north as vancouver and more northern than Quebec, but not that cold in the winter

I don't live there but our city is located on a mountain foothills from the "Ardeygebirge". Every morning I take the time to enjoy the view out of my kitchen window. Not as impressive as the Berchtesgadener Land but still beautiful.

The grass is always greener on the other side.

The region in the US that resembles most to the Alpine region in Europe, which spans over Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Italy and France, would be the Olympic National Park in Washington state. The main thing is, in Olympic National Park the region receives more rain fall than any other region on mainland USA. That is the whole trick to lush greenery. You simply need to have a lot of rain. And there are many people that see this as a down side to climate in Germany. Because it often rains for weeks and it is just gray and some more gray with shades of grey, and wet all the time. But that also makes it the more rewarding when the sun finally gets the upper hand. Another difference in general is that Germany is compared to the US densely populated, by a factor of 7. That makes a huge difference how the cultivated landscape looks like, especially when you think of how population is dispersed over the country. Europe has a long history over centuries where everything grew kind of naturally, while in the US there is this frontier settlement vibe sprinkled around huge population centres. Think of Los Angeles, the metropolitan area is just insanely huge, while in contrast the country sides are often vast empty spaces where you can walk for days without coming across any human being. In Germany these spaces don't exist in neither extreme, so you could think that everywhere you look at there is some caring human hand involved, for better or worse.

In Germany, there is a legendary hit by Kiz about the Königsee - “Die Sennerin vom Königsee” from the 1980s.

It shows there in the ( 470m ) that the Waterfall has an estimated High around 470meters, thats ~1542Feet for Americans.

The name "Königsee" translates to "king lake".

I bet you could also find a video with beautiful landscapes in Indiana, if you search for it. I'm living in the North of Germany and we don't have mountains like this. But we do have nice pains and forests and the "Lüneburger Heide" which is also cool.

i live there. Been through whole Germany and half of the World as i was a soldier for a long time and i've never seen a more beautiful place than my home.

In the summer, you can find tourist attractions in the Alps, where river slides are organized! Not only in Germany, but this is marked as dangerous, despite the guided escort. It is necessary to have health insurance in order, and enough physical ability to swim in the river and climb the embankments, the water is cold despite the swimming suits and scratches are almost guaranteed.

Yeah! Great place ... been there several times! It's quite far away from where I live in Germany. Ok, only 150km, but that's like a 2 hour car ride! :-/ *arg Not far away from that place, you can visit a salt-mine and its caves or just go up top the mountain and visit the "Eagles Nest". It was built as Hitlers resident and has a beautiful view above the lake and the mountains. There are also some underground from that time period to explore. Very interesting!

I live there and to me it's still the most beautiful place on earth. Standing on top of the Jenner and looking down on the Königssee gives me the chills everytime. Actually, you're not allowed to use your own boat on the lake, you have to take the electric tourist boats. Otherwise there is no way of getting to the other side. You can't walk around it. Sometimes in winter, when it is very cold for a long time, the lake freezes over with such a thick layer of ice so you can walk across it. But that's not very often the case, I think the last time was in 2006 and before that was in 1982.

You can walk around the Königssee, but not at lake level all the time and certainly not in a day. If you take the lift up to the Jenner you can probably get to the Wasseralm hut at the end of the Obersee. But I would only recommend it if you are in a better shape than I am as I did the hike from the Carl-von-Stahl Haus in 12 instead of the intended 10 hours. There may be a shorter (less scenic) route but it can't be by much. Also don't go in autumn as I had to cut my trip short after spending half a day in knee deep snow going to the Riemannhaus and didn't fancy a full day of that over to the Ingolstädterhaus.

Due to predominantly westerly winds, the east side of the Rockies (Colorado) is much more arid than the west side. If you look at mountains in the Pacific Northwest, you get similar shades of dark green as in the Alps.

You can book guided tours sliding down such rivers. Its called "Canyoning". Don't know if its the same meaning in English for this activity. Btw i did it once. It was fantastic.

The nature there is so beautiful. It is also very good for the heart and the soul if you breathe in the fresh moutain air where you are on vacation in the Alps, or breathe in the fresh sea air on the North and Baltic Seas.

Beautiful that's right. It's a small region in Germany... in Norway it looks like this all over the country.

You should react on your Europe channel to the swiss or austrian Alps, they are bigger and even more beautiful.

Another wonderful place on earth in Germany is about 90km (about 50 miles in your freedom units🙃) south of Berlin. The Spreewald (Spree Forest) a beautiful forested inland delta of the river spree.

If you look at average annual precipitation maps of the U.S. and Europe (or more specifically the alpine region), you’ll see that most of the Rocky Mountains region has much less rainfall than the Alps. The European Alps, at least the visible part, is also geologically younger than most of the Rocky Mountains, and thus the Alps have suffered less erosion, resulting in steeper mountains and narrower valleys. Areas like Utah and Arizona with the Grand Canyon where you have deep river valleys but then high, relatively flat plateaus is something you don’t really find in the Alps.

If you want, search for something about the Dolomites. They're very unique and beautiful, like most of the Alps. Greetings from Italy!

The Alps are a mountain range formed by Italy crashing into the rest of Europe. The tectonic plates responsible for this are still moving towards each other at 5 centimeters a year, which means the Alps are still growing. That and the fact that the Alps are generally a very young mountain rage (~53 million years) is why they're so rough and rugged. The elements simply haven't had the time to smoothen the rock yet.

5:22 "I wish i owned a boat on this lake." Here is, where the difference kicks in. You simply can't this easy in Germany. Lakes are rare, thus limited in access, lots of reglementations around lakes, often they are very strict bird reservations, others reserved for fishery or they are officially run as touristic business of watersports and beach. There are still some areas where it is possible to access a lake without permission, use a boat or swim. But it is definitely not like in the US - see one of a thousands lakes, take boat, do some fishing. You need permissions for everything or it's just plain forbidden. The german term for it is "Gewässerschutz". Most of the time Germans are only watching their lakes, no joke.

I think Germany does not have to hide when it comes to landscapes, but gosh, look what you have in America!!!! The world itsself is so beautiful that it makes me cry sometimes. And we should do all we can to preserve it!!!!

Hi Ryan I would find it intresting and funny when you would comment a video introducing the state of Indiana for us.

The reason for the greener grass is likely the position on the globe. Compared to Indiana, those places are about 400 miles north of the northern border of Indiana. Or in other words: you live on a latitude, where germans go for a sunbathing vacation.

Berchtesgaden is stunningly beatiful and there is a lot to see. So many nice places and i can't forget my visit to Hitler's vacation home in Berchtesgaden. Hitlers residence is now a museum and it is such a unique, kinda creepy, atmosphere. The museum is really well put together and you get to learn a lot. It is a crazy feeling to learn the history at the exact spots where Hitler spent a lot of time, planned and commanded tons of cruel things. He actually spent more time at this residence than in his office in berlin, and he said that his great plans were forged there.

come visit Germany.......get your own impressions of the landscape nowadays, you can find impressive points all over the country ! just more cramped space here in opposite to the USA, but a nice traffic with bus and train.....

When i would transfer Germany to USA in context of climat, nature etc in gerneral. I would say Pennsylvania came it closest. Agree? Or show me your oppinions.

No fuel powered boats allowed on this lake. (Nor on many other German lakes.) The tourist sightseeing boats are electric. I wouldn’t take a rest on a cow which doesn’t know me …

The German Alps don't exist. They're the Bavarian Alps.

if you want to campare the landscape of the Alps to something in america, just look at the Rockies or as others said at least the canadian part is similiar just everything is larger.

Concentrate on the regions where most people live, North Rhine-Westphalia is the largest metropolitan area in Europe (16 million people live here) Düsseldorf is the capital of this region and is beautiful. On the Cologne side, everything was decided by the bishop and the church and on the Düsseldorf side, the Counts of Berg with their family seat at Schloss Burg, they were more powerful than the bishop and when the bishop wanted to cross the Rhine, the Düsseldorfers helped the Count von Bergt's family and thus Düsseldorf became a city. Out of gratitude, the Count von Berg gave Düsseldorf city rights and 1000 years later the people of Cologne are in the Sauer. Look at Düsseldorf with its almost 1000 year old old town and next to it the Königs Allee, one of the most expensive streets in the world 400,000 euros per square meter

As a Northern-German we usually identify Bavaria on its Churches with the Onion-Top. 🤣 Oh, and btw you'd probably not be allowed to boat on the Königssee, otherwise it wouldnt stay the cleanest lake very long. Driving a motor ship is heavily restricted in germany. And even for sailing youi need a license, like for driving a car. 🙂 And also, you are right, we should make our own screen backgrounds, easily matchinbg the ones from Apple. 😉
