    i heavily suggest Kard theyre a mixed group with a lot of latin based music id say theyre one of the most popular groups in south american countries. as for bts i also heavily suggest you do a deep dive on their music stay away from the english group songs that were played on the radio and check out their korean and japanese music. bts didnt get radioplay until 2020 even though they been global since 2016. only when they decided to make fun songs to cheer people up during the pandemic did the u.s play their songs on the radio and its only because of the songs being in english and written by white people. bts self written songs are so much better. bts have FULL creative freedom since their debut in 2013 which is why its a little frustrating for bts and army when people think bts only do butter and dynamite music. like bts music if given the chance by so many who dismiss it can take the place of all the rock/hip hop/ pop artists who used to make powerful music for change in the systems. but now the music industry suppresses artists like that so i guess it "makes sense" why they paint a "bts is for the kids with cute bubblegum music with no meaning" narrative they keep pushing. also the "kpop rules" people talk about like no dating, no smoking, no tattoos, no cursing, no sexual music etc are all lies pushed by white people. bts do all of that and a lot more groups do too. the media trys to use the language barrier and peoples lack of research to paint this strict cheesy cutesy puppet narrative about these idols when it doesnt apply to all of them and things have changed drastically since bts becoming global so many conditions are better etc. sorry for ranting. anyways id say their b sides/side tracks are even better than their title tracks. i swear if you give them a chance youll fall in love with their group music and they also have been making solo music since 2015 some members have music from pre debut and they have solo songs within their group albums too. bts never fit in with kpop tbh they did so much new things that are now kpops norm but when bts were doing them it was only them doing it until they became successful. things like the way you can find kpop albums in stores like target that was because of army going every day for years to these stores to ask for bts music to be exported which led to all korean groups being exported. the reason so many groups have game shows and twitter accounts and personal contents like vlogs or behind the scenes videos all because of bts. id suggest reacting to trends bts created by bora city magazine to get more info and proof. but yeah please react to bts songs rain, paradise, tomorrow, ma city, silver spoon, am i wrong and spring day. id also suggest reacting to ms mojos video called Top 10 BTS Songs That Tackle Serious Issues my only critique of her video is spring day/am i wrong situations are not of theory but are facts as stated by the victims of the tragedy theyre based on. also fact about silver spoon, am i wrong and spring day bts almost got blacklisted by sk govt because these songs are protest songs that call out govt corruption and inequality. ok im done now sorry for such a long comment hope it was helpful :)

    So you're not wrong about the influence of Jpop on Kpop, that's where korea got the idol system from. Tyr musical influence is western but the trainee and Idol systems are Japanese inspired. One of the reasons why Jpop is not as big as Kpop internationally despite Japan being the second biggest music market, behind the US, is because of the Japanese copyright laws that are way to harsh, making exporting the misic difficult.

    Japan is the second biggest music market in the world, right after the US. JPop definitely influenced KPop and vice versa. It is common for groups to learn Japanese and do albums in Japanese to avail themselves of this market, because Japan requires music released there to be in Japanese. Remember also, that Japan invaded and colonized Korea many, many times over literal centuries and well into the 20th century were still occupying Korea. Their horrifically brutal occupations and influence definitely shaped Korean culture in various ways both by infusing Japanese words into the language, and Japanese culture and styles and concepts into the art, fashion, food, and culture of Korea, and by creating a strong spirit of rebellion in S Korea. As a musical language of the oppressed, modern hip hop found it's voice in this sentiment in S Korea. Japanese is still a mandatory second language taught in schools because there is no denying the economic importance of Japan to modern S Korea, but the relationship between the two countries is still a delicate one. For instance, there are still court battles to get Japan to acknowledge their atrocities (any of their atrocities) or pay war reparations, for instance to the still living "Comfort Women" (Abducted Korean women used as military sex slaves even up to the mid 20th century.) There is still a sentiment in Japan about Koreans as "less than" them. For instance, it's still considered generally bad by the Japanese for a Japanese person to marry a Korean. BigBang's history I won't get into...except to say there were some scandals that shattered the group, the biggest of which was the Burning Sun Nightclub scandal. For more on that, see the very recent BBC documentary on the subject. It's bad. I mean...bad bad. But 3 members are still active as soloists, including GDragon, trying to salvage their careers and reputations out of that horrific mess which ended with one of their members in prison and in which they were not involved. Despite a ton of money, media blitzes in the West, pairing with a Western label and having industry support in the West, SuperM failed because it was manufactured, and their music was generally nonsense, and they were not writing it. Also, the fandoms were mad about the other groups being cannibalized. They created SuperM because BTS was being called an Avengers group because every member is so insanely talented. It was literally an attempt to make "The Next BTS." It was a cash grab, pure and simple. But BTS is authentic, write and produce their own music, speak truth to power, is stunningly brave and honest in their lyricism, which is famous for its genius and being studied in colleges around the world, cover important and impactful subjects in their music and are constantly taking risks with their music, reinventing and expanding themselves, plus their music is immaculate and they cover many, many genres and fusions. And their live performances are even better than their recordings, so much so that they were accused of lip synching initially. You still can't beat all that with manufactured gimmicks and money and glitz, thankfully. People can smell inauthenticity. I think those poor SuperM guys deserve an Oscar for delivering the schlockey pap their label was giving them for music with a straight face. They were under contract and didn't have a choice. What a waste of their talent and time. BTS, on the other hand, have always been self-directed in their careers. The only mandate their CEO Mr. Bang gave them was that their music should tell their real stories. Re: Radio play, BTS gets almost none. You must have been hearing their only songs to really ever got any radio play, their three all English songs, Dynamite, Butter and Permission to Dance, which definitely do not typify their sound at all. They regularly top the charts and are in the ranks of the likes of Drake, Taylor Swift, Beyonce etc. in terms of success and numbers and who their chart competition is, despite the fact that radio spins are a huge part of Billboard's charting numbers. If they got radio spins too, and the industry did not actively suppress them by deleting mass views and streams, regularly cutting their numbers in half, the charts would just belong to them. Even with all that, RM's latest album by itself is 60% of the Rap chart right now. BTS being bigger than all KPop combined: that's not just an opinion. That's statistics. Their company is now financially bigger than the previous Big Three combined, and most of their revenue still comes from BTS. BTS are bigger in streaming numbers, bigger in sales, than the whole of the rest of KPop. One concert of BTS brought more revenue into S Korea than the Pyongyang Winter Olympics did. They have broken so many records that they are in the Guiness World Records Hall of Fame, and they are also now the most awarded artists in global history, though if you google most awarded artists the western media generally leaves them off those lists completely. The KPop wave is a real thing, but it's definitely the BTS wave that the others are riding along. They paved the way, for real. The Hallyu wave also includes dramas and films, fashion, food, skincare and cosmetics, etc.

    FACTS paving the way simply means making the pathway easier to walk on. it does not mean building or making the way from scratch. bts indeed did pave the way for kpop groups to be able to more easily promote and grow in foreign countries, especially in the us market. BTS PAVED THE WAY.

    It seems like K-pop is going in two directions right now. On one end, there are groups that are tackling the charts to create the most catchy and digestible songs with dances that are easy for the general public to replicate. On the other end, there are groups that focus on the theatrics with dynamic songs, complex choreographies, and narrative storylines. 4th Gen leaned heavily into the theatrics which is why I believe the popularity of K-pop stagnated until the new 5th Gen groups came out with their digestible chart hits.

    if you compare the streaming numbers, it can easily be proven that bts is bigger than kpop as a whole. without bts, kpop will definitely be bigger than what it was in 2017, but it will go back to being a niche interest. the ones giving kpop the title and position of mainstream is bts and bts only. as other comments have mentioned before, boracity is a good army youtube channel that talks about things such as these. she really brings receipts out together with her opinions and i think it would be good to check some of her video essays out.

    Bigbang aren't technically broken up but it's been 8 years of inactivity and wouldn't be surprised if it's going to be least 10 years or permanent. They just can't avoid drama and bad luck. They finished their world tour and went into their military service just as BTS broke through in American in 2017. No worries they're were set to have all members out in late 2019 and were set to perform at Coachella in 2020 and with BigBang's live shows being considered the best in kpop history they'll rivial BTS with all the celebrities they impress. Then the world shut down and Senguri became Voldermort In kpop and going to prison made the group radioactive. Even though he didn't engage in those activities his friends did that got them decades in prison and just did white collar crimes he's always going to be link to the horrific acts they did and didn't speak up about it. So he had to retire. Then they started leaving YG one by one and had to deal with the company they built actively sabotaging them to the point were TOP quit the group. And right now G dragon is fighting for his name because YG trademarked his stage name and real name forcing him to not sign his new deal with Warner music and dealing with drug abuse accusations out of nowhere. So they're a 3 member group but there's no bigbang without TOP and if they convince him to come back it can't be until 2025 because he's been cast on Squid game season 2 and has to to filming and promotion for the next year.

    I personally think Kpop will plateau for a while, because it's no longer a shiny new thing to the world, and the novelty will wear off given how mainstream it has become. Also, immersing themselves too much with Western pop has both advantages and disadvantages, and I believe we'll see it play out with groups like NewJeans and XG. The advantage is they instantly start being more mainstream and with broader appeal. The disadvantages it makes it that much harder to stand out in the crowd. The reason Kpop has become as big as it has, is because of the dedicated fanbases, but as they become more mainstream and similar to western pop they also generate more fickle fandoms, hampering their potential to grow. One of the main reasons the K in Kpop hasn't disappeared yet and I don't see it disappearing soon us because ultimately, many groups still disband, and they don't have the international backing to continue as soloists internationally thereafter. Many go do something in the Korean entertainment industry, and for that they still need to maintain good korean followings.

  • @HIM_066

    @HIM_066

    🤔 hmm as long as they are primarily rapping in Korean, I agree the K in pop won't disappear; however, looking at XG, who blends Korean, Japanese, and English they are X-pop. But I also agree with your perspective as well -- I guess time will tell
