If you're new to my channel and videos, hi! I'm Evan Edinger, and I make weekly "comedy" videos every Sunday evening. As an American living in London I love noticing the funny differences between the cultures and one of my most popular video series is my British VS American one. I'm also known for making terrible puns so sorry in advance. Hope to see you around, and I'll see you next Sunday! :)

I just couldn’t resist having a look for Minty Badger, and she really did exist! I think her first name could have been Aminta, but she does come up as “Minty” on the 1861 census, living with her mum and dad (who had normal names - Samuel and Elizabeth!). She used the name Minty when she married Richard Large, in Warwickshire, in 1866, so I suppose she became Minty Large? They had five children, but I think maybe he died because she shows up again as Aminta in 1876, marrying Charles Garner . . . then he died and she married Frederick Rawbone in 1893. So Minty Badger ended up as Minty Rawbone - and didn’t die until she was 94, in 1938!

Also used them to repair problems with the machines, typically the machines kept running in both cases while the child was underneath. A lot of children wound up receiving horrific injuries from these machines which was part of why child labour was abolished.

I wasn't a kid or even a teen when this came out, but I did watch a lot of it anyway just because I read the books as a kid and loved them (not sure if people know it was a book series, though the sketches in the show aren't the same as the comic book ones, they do their own thing with it, but the art, name and style are all the same as the books were). I love the fact it was not patronising and enjoyable for all ages. When i was a kid, there were a few similar historical comedy shows on TV. Maid Marian and her Merry Men is very similar in humour to Horrible Histories, for example, but isn't as educational. That is where this show really shines as it manages to be educational and entertaining.

I am Brazilian, and I got to know this show for kids around 2013. At first I watched it on TV because I liked history, but it ended up catching me, much more, for making me laugh. A long time ago a TV show of humor did not do me as well as this show managed to do. (Detail: I am an adult woman, and I have no children.) It is a fantastic show: it teaches you, and makes you laugh, even if it is about your "misfortunes" (in this case, the history of mankind.) Certainly all folks love humor, and comedy is something universal, but Americans and Britons are just brilliant at it - there is no nation that can beat all you about this, I think. Anyway, you are completely crazy, 😂

"Shouty Man" is a parody of Barry Scott, fictional spokesman for the domestic cleaning fluid Cillit Bang, by the way. And if you want to know more about what the Victorians did about all the poop, look up Joseph Bazalgette and the Embankment. It's finally being replaced as London's main sewer by a freaking huge mega sewer that is also fascinating and kind of puts Crossrail in the shade.

Horrible Histories has a longer legacy than you might think. It's based on a book series of the same name. Most people who were kids in the 90's have never seen the show (we were too old for the target audience when it debuted) but we remember the books very fondly. There were also spin-off books about science and geography which were great too.

The river Fleet still exists, only it is now part of the sewer system and runs underground. After the Great Stench chief civil engineer Joseph Bazalgette built a new sewerage system for central London with a couple of beautiful pumping stations. At the moment a new sewerage system is being built along the bank of the Thames because the old one couldn’t cope with the amount of sewage modern day London produces., which is nearly finished.
