In the 85th episode of the show Tolle Sachen , we found out why Bernd is depressed. He says: "[...] A long, long time ago I fell in love with a beautiful, slim baguette. She was so incredibly charming and funny. But unfortunately it was in vain. She only had eyes for this random multigrain bread with its ten types of grain. It was so depressing. [...] Since then, my heart has been a dry lump of flour."

Must be the release of this exact episode, isn‘t it? because we watched Bernd das Brot all Night long when i was in high school and this was before 2005.

Bernd is who we Germans are. Bernd is who we Germans like. Bernd is us and we are Bernd. We love him. As the Struwwelpeter and co. stories. They're our minds spoken in a story. We love it. XD

The robotic arm is the running gag in the Bernd das Brot Night Loops. Mostly, Bernd is put into scene by the robotic arm. When not, he often comments it with a sardonic remark like "Das ist neu!" (That's new!).

Imagine coming home at 2-3am, drunk and then watch this stuff on TV.. its so trippy

🤓what a nerdy comment ... 🤭when the video started, i immediately just HAD to write down : 25cm x 25cm x 130cm = ~81 liter, 85% Weizenmehl, Arme viel zu kurz, Masse ca 25 kg, Krümelzahl 23 10" x 10" x 50" = ~5000 inch³, 85% wheat flour, arms much too short, mass ~55 lbs, crumb count 23 ps : but for the volume, you can subtract a tiny bit for head and arms, etc, resulting in maybe 50 liter volume -> 0.5 g/ml = only half of volume is air

Bernd das Brot prepared us all for the reality that is Life. We are trapped in an endless circle of doing Things we don't want to do. The voice that tortures Bernd is the World that forces us to Work so that we May continue to exist. Bernd is all of us and we are all of Bernd! Or Something Like this I don't know 😂

For anyone who doesn't know already: Bernd the Bread is a character from kids channel (Kinderkanal). As a kids channel, they don't have a "real" program between 9 pm and 6 am, so since 2003, they just put Bernd the Bread on Loop. These Episodes got produced solely for this purpose.

The episodes from the first two seasons are very rare to find. They are short films with another maincast "Briegel the Bush" and "Chilli the Sheep". The episodes where a satyrical look on contemporary German media and zeitgeist.

The first appearance of "Bernd das Brot" was in the year 2000 and he was, together with his fellow puppet "friends" Briegel der Busch (Briegel the Bush) and Chili das Schaft (Chili the Sheep) part of many short humorous shows on KiKa (Childrens TV channel) where he got most of the time the rough end of the stick. The Shows: "Tolle Sachen" (Awesome Stuff) - A american style commercial show "Chili TV" - Sitcom style "Bravo Bernd" - A mix of rollbacks of older sketches, a spoof on quiz-shows, singing show and other stuff And the "Nachtschleife" There are 13 episodes of the "Nachtschleife" (Night Loop) like this one. “Bernd das Brot” is like one of the weirdest things in German tv history

We love our depressed bread. And Ryan, of course 🤗

The "Kika" (short for Kinder Kanal, children's channel) started broadcasting 24/7 in 2003. But during the night they had this repeating loops of content, often featuring Bernd.

In wikipedia I found: 2013, 22. Februar (Social Media) as first broadcast date

What is even better about it - I bet you've heard of it - is it's origin in german TV. Bernd das Brot episodes get shown on Kika (the kids channel), however only between 9pm. and 6am. so when most young children are naturally asleep.

It is very imporrtant to note, that this runs on the childrens channel. Literally. KIKA is short for "childrens channel" I am pretty sure that every german in a certain age range has had nightmares because of this show.

The last scene with the "motor bike" named "Light Cycle" is definetely a reference to the movie "Tron" from 1982.

Bernd das Brot is (was) an endless loop in every night, after the KIKA (children channel) finished the daily broadcast. something about 25 minutes and in the end of the loop bernd ended up at the beginning again. Loved it. 😍

Even after 2 years and short scanning the comments you must now notice: The running gag in all the Bernd Shows is that Bernd can't leave the screen.

The subtitles say "burn de brat" 😂😂

The lawyer in this clip was portrayed by Tommy Krappweis, german comedian and one of the two guys who created Bernd das Brot!

Tommy Krappweis is not just the creater of Bernd, he is a legend in German media. Tommy is comedian, musican, directer, actor, filmmaker, author....and for german standards quite successful.

By the way: the male voice from the off and the lawyer are Tommy Krappweiß. He is one of the inventors and authors of Bernd. Does anyone know, if the older white haired guy too left in the scene wit the multiple screens was Tommy's father?

In the early days there was some kind of sitcom-like show featuring Bernd, Shily the Sheep and Brigel the Bush. There were actual episodes and many catch phrases of Bernd were coined. E.g. "Mist, schon wieder ich!" ("Crap, it's my turn again") Maybe you can find some of those. These nighttime loops aren't a real show. It's the equivalent to white noise.

I'm German and this is what being on the internet feels like

on the random webcam roulette. The persons in the upper half are the father and brother of Tommy Krappweiss, the inventor of Bernd das Brot.

My all time favorite episode

Funfacts: The lawyer at the beginning is one of Bernds' inventors, Tommy Krappweis. He's referencing Groucho Marx and he's kind of foreshadowing a character he later has in his brilliant book and audioplay series Ghostsitter: a crazy lawyer named Rufus T. Feuerflieg (who is voiced by Wigald Boning). Audible has at least the first Ghostsitter in English too. It's fantastic. Also: the older guy on the top left on the first "chat roulette" is Tommy's late father Werner Krappweis.

Did you know Berd das Brot actually has several singles and albums sung by Bernd? Some of them even trended in Germany. Might be a fun thing to react to-

There is another very good episode, it is called “das Astro-Brot“, there he is a astronaut.

Bernd das Brot is the best. I have a small stuffed toy of him on every cars dashboard since i have my drivers license and everytime i got flashed my reaction is „Mist“. We sometimes watched it through the whole night, when we were teens. It‘s so funny and you‘re right, sometimes its the essence of being german 😅 BTW: i would love to see a clip of You commenting on „Unser Sandmännchen“.

This Episode of Bernd das Brot is actually called "Social Media" and was first aired in the Nightloop of Feb 22nd, 2013.

Tommy Krappweis was already mentioned as inventor of Bernd. The voice from the Off is Tommy himself, he plays the lawyer, too, and he is director of the movies, Bernd is produced by his movie company. In the 90s Tommy was part of German version of "Saturday night Live". He makes great audioplays, too. And has several shows on Twitch where he e.g. debunks hoaxes and conspiracy myths with friends. Watch Out for him.

Bernd the Bread s at least 20 years old. It was on the nighcycle every night on the kids channel. as far as I Remember there where severell 15 minute Blocks (like this) and everynight from 22:00 till 6:00, one of this 15 minute Blocks was played on Loop the whole night.

Beside these night loops, there was a sort of sitcom about Bernd the bread with his roommates Chili the sheep and Briegel the bush.

Now that Ryan has already noticed the parallels to his own life, it seems to me as if Bernd is the online incarnation of him. See also the TV series Supernatural Season 4, Episode 18. Ryan, everything in your life is already scripted.😂

This is one of many "Bernd - das Brot"- Night Programm. It´s shown on "Kika" - short for "Kinderkanal" translated "children channel" They start their programm at 6:00 a.m. and end it at 9:00 p.m. After 9:00 p.m. they show this or other parts of him in Continuous loop the whole night.
