SoGal, participation by the English national football team in international tournaments usually goes like this: 1. The English tabloid papers write that the current English team lineup is the strongest ever. 2. The English tabloid papers predict that England can win the European (or World) Championship. 'It's coming home'. 3. England plays and qualifies for the knock out stages. 4. England loses a knock out stage match ~50% chance they miss a penalty shot. 5. The English tabloid papers write that the current English team is crap and possibly the worst ever. 6. Two years pass. 7. Repeat...

(= after the arab spring took away the north african dictators), think genocide in ruanda, think starvation, think of an ebola pandemic that could have spread. - what can you do to stop that: have contracts with dictators like Ghaddafi (which they did). - however that contract with Ghaddafi may lead to conditions for migrants that are massively worse than those in Xinjiang. So I agree, it's complex. And I don't know how to do international/(former) colonial politics.

That's not actually true. Anyone who knows anything about betting knows that odds across the world tend to be the same. If they weren't then punters would make huge sums by betting on one thing in one country and the opposite in another. There can be small differences initially but the 'market' quickly smooths those out to make them the same.

The 2021 Challenge Cup will be the 120th edition of the Challenge Cup, the main rugby league knockout tournament in British rugby league run by the Rugby Football League (RFL). This final will be held at Wembley Stadium in London 17 July 2021. The finalists are St Helens and Castleford. Later this year the Rugby League World Cup is being held in UK. I have commented before this is really big in Australia, which SoGal likes to learn about and it is not the same as Rugby Union and a video showing how they differ might help an American learn as RL is more akin to NFL.

Well, look on the bright side, the final can't end without at least one goal. The rules literally won't allow it. If there isn't a winner by the time the 90 minutes are up, they play for 30 more minutes. If there still isn't a winner, both sides take 5 penalty kicks. If there *still* isn't a winner, then both teams have to take *as many penalties as it ataks* until one team scores and the other doesn't. I hadn't seen this video before, but it *is* pretty spot on, except the fact that it overlooks Germany as one of the teams likely to win. And, where international football is concerned (especially in the Euros, but to some degree in the other continental tournaments and in the World Cup) there's a fair amount of just poking shameless fun at the other teams involved. Up to and including references to one of the World Wars, or some of the lesser known wars. The comentators obviously have to be professional and therefore aren't allowed to enjoy this, but it is pretty close to the banter you'd find in an average pub where a match is being shown on TV.

"What France did was wrong": He´s basically talking about colonialism. That´s not a specific french thing. It was more a european/western/white culture thing. It involves occupation, exploitation, genocide and slavery of countries that were considered "uncivilized". Basically every big power state of the 19th and early 20th was actively involved in colonialism. It basically started with the discovery of America in 1492. Not sure why he had to point out france. The french team being multicultural is a development more of recent decades since the nineties.

Today's two games are the best thing that could have happened to a fresh football fan. First, the battle between the Spaniards and the Croatians, with a mistake by the Spanish goalkeeper and a quick 1:0 for the Croatians, then an unused penalty kick and a quick punishment for the Croatians to give Spain a 1:3 lead, at the end of regulation time a contact goal by the Croatians to make it 2:3, and in added time a goal to make it 3:3, which led to extra time (2x 15 min each), where Spain scored two goals and advanced to the quarter-finals after more than 2 hours of play. The second match was supposed to be a "walk" of the world champions (France) with the underestimated Switzerland. And here, similarly, 0:1 at the beginning for the Swiss, a twist of fate and the French lead 3:1 and the Swiss in the very end of the match equalize at 3:3. Here, extra time does not determine the winner and there is a series of penalty kicks (each team has 5 shots) where the last shot by France, the Swiss goalkeeper defends the shot and sends France home !!

Hi, I've just recently discovered your channel and I'm really enjoying your content,I'm from the UK and it's great to be reminded of our history. Just to let you know England are playing Germany tomorrow, fingers crossed for England but the Germans are pretty good. Cheers

I think he’s pretty spot on*, he’s just on about the French Empire, mostly in Africa (particularly the north) but they had (and have) territories in a lot of the same regions the British did *I’m not a huge football fan so I could be wrong but he seems right to me. I did meet an American in Nashville who really knew his football, way better than me, but he’d grown up playing it (I played rugby and hockey mostly)

Love the cameo on N'golo Kante, one of the heroes of Leicester City's Premiership title in 2016. Leicester is a much smaller club than the giants of the English game like Manchester United and Liverpool, and in a smaller city the activities of the players are much more public. When Kante was at Leicester most of the players turned up for training and matches in Porsches and Ferraris. Kante used to arrive in a Mini, and it wasn't even that new. When asked about this he did reflect on his playing heritage and said that most kids in Africa have nothing. A car, any car, is beyond their wildest dreams.

While watching the finals live is a good idea, i would suggest picking a recent match that a lot of people say was eventful and do a reaction video to that one. I heard that belgium - portugal had some exciting moments, or maybe some people more knowledgeable in soccer might know of an even more exciting match. I would also suggest to react to a soccer video about scott stirling. He is a really good goalkeeper and was able to keep out any balls in the match between Yale and North Carolina.
