Karl is actually right about Everest growing. The geological phenomena that created the Himalayas hasn't stopped, and the Indian tectonic plate is still pushing into/under the Eurasian plate, making much of the Himalayas continue to grow, whilst India actually loses roughly 2cm of landmass a year.

If the questions weren't asked, we may not have as funny a podcast. The more we ask Karl, the more humour we get.

I love how Karl doesn't weasel out of answering any question that Ricky throws at him. And the greater the mockery from Ricky the more calmly he doubles down to come up with an answer! Mandy, as always, is right about Karl Pilkington - his mind is so special.

Don't think anyone in the comments has explained it but "tipping" is short for "fly tipping" which is essentially dumping stuff on the sides of roads, farmers fields or anywhere they can chuck a washing machine or fridge off the back of a van without being seen. It's a crime in the UK (as I'm sure many other places) but people still get away with it.

Little known fact is that they discovered Everest is actually getting taller solely because they're adding layers of poop on the mountain.

I'm with you on mosquito buzzing. Flippin hate it. I'll be like, look fine, take a drop of blood. Take 10 drops if you want. But for god's sake stfu. Also, as soon as I hear a mosquito in my room at night I have to leap up, scan the room to locate the mosquito like some kind of bug ninja and squish the f******. Most annoying sound for sure.

I don't think it's just mount Everest either. My sister's one of these people who likes to climb mountains and that kinda stuff and there was a funny incident once. There was an article in some paper "Tourisrs shat all over mount So and so (I want say the name)" and they put a photo of my sister there, the writers got lazy and just googled "climber" or someting and her photo came up. My sister was furious.

Karl foiled himself with his own logic with the ghost thing. He said ghosts are the same state as when they die. So, if they take the eyes after he dies, it won't matter

I haven't heard about the poop problem on Mt Everest, but I wouldn't doubt it. But it has become a bit of a tourist trap with a nice heated base camp at the bottom. It's all regulated by the Nepali govt now. So similarly, I've read that you have to pay a pretty hefty deposit at the base camp before you can even climb the mountain. And apparently, at one point, the trash on the mountain (water bottles, food wrappers, etc) got so bad that they'd give climbers trash bags before they went up. And if they came back down with their bags full, they'd get part of that deposit back. So I wouldn't be surprised if human poop has become a problem as well.

Mountains do increase in height over time due to tectonic plate movements, that is how they are actually formed. so one up to Karl on that one. and germs did rampage around the world in 2020 all be it not gigantic ones we could see so again Karl kinda predicted Covid in a way. You watch these three in a very unique way. Most don’t hate on Ricky and Steve because they are deliberately setting up the Karl factor… they will either steer him into a topic, or poke him with the metaphorical stick… but that when Karl is let loose. And that’s the comedy gold.

You love that saying soo much that you can't remember it. It's really engrained in there. Lol The chirpy birds at 2am thing 🐦🦜. Are there lots of street lamps and stuff around the area? I see a documentary here that showed that because cities have bright man made light sources everywhere that it disturbs birds sleep patterns. So they can be awake chirping in the middle of the night because of bright LED street lamps everywhere.

Great reaction.. I think the Everest thing is that mountains are continually growing.. Being pushed up by volcanic activity from below.. I remember reading Everest grows at a rate of something like 5 cm's a year..

@@MandyCaneLane When the Mountain was first surveyed by George Everest in the 1800s, he came up with the height of exactly 29,000ft, because he thought everyone would think he'd just estimated it to the nearest 1,000ft, he added 2ft. Unintentionally getting closer to the true height at 29,002ft. Latest estimate I've found is 29,029ft.

Another great reaction, Mandy. I loved your phrase about 'What is normal to a spider is chaos to a fly'. That's going to stay with me. There was an experiment carried out once (I sound like Karl now) where 1 person had one flower, and they talked nicely to it every day, whilst the other shouted at the flower and calling it names. The experiment was to see if the flower could discern the bad and good vibes from the voices (probably down to frequencies). If I remember correctly, the end result was that the flower that was talked to nicely, grew just a little more than the other. So, hardly conclusive but..... "In a study performed by the Royal Horticultural Society, researchers discovered that talking to your plants really can help them grow faster. 1 They also found that plants grow faster to the sound of a female voice than to the sound of a male voice." Now there's an experiment you can try at home. The reason birds tweet in the morning is that they can't use Instagram.. no, just kidding. But according to Sir David Attenborough (a legend in our time and a national treasure), the reason birds tweet is to check on the other neighbourhood birds to make sure they're ok and survived the night. When they question Karl they know exactly what he means they are just trying to get more comedy out of what he's saying.

I like that you actually try to see Karls perspective on things, most people who watch this show just think Karl's an idiot and laugh at him. It does annoy me how Ricky tries sooo hard to appear like an intellectual when he's just a comedian who can repeat 5 different facts they heard and often turns what could be a genuinely interesting talking point into a shouting match where he tries to "win". Stephen's not that bad, he does spot when Karl says something that could lead to an interesting conversation, Ricky doesn't, he just sees an opportunity to make himself look smart. I don't know what article Karl was talking about with Everest 'growing' but he could have been right, because the tectonic plates are constantly moving together, it does get millimetres taller every year, it could have nothing to do with the measurement techniques. And the worst noise on earth is people whistling.

You liked the voice of the narrator in the intro of An Idiot Abroad. That's guy's voice is okay, too. But this show's opening narrator's voice is really cool. Like a Morgan Freeman effect. In the videos where you played this one's voice, I imagined myself saying the intro with him while trying to sound like him. My voice is baritone, so I can get away with doing that. 😂My maternal grandfather's voice was base, so I get my baritone from him. I once noticed, in church, that while singing along with a congregational hymn, his high note was my low note. 23:43 The fact they still had Karl naked on that part. 😂It's not even the shower anymore. :D

The magpies here in Australia sit around chatting with each other at like 3am if not earlier, but I still love them, they don't wake me though. @Mandy Cane Lane if I remember correctly, he had tried other things like scaring it, etc, but it kept coming back, right outside his window. It was a long time ago, back in the late 80s/early 90s era, I just remember the final solution because it was so extreme, and it was so sad, because I love those birds(or any animals actually). In hindsight, sorry for sharing such a downer of a story 🤔😪, should try to keep it happy here. And you're so good at using emojis, I'm not.

9:35 good point, but I doubt Karl was thinking about it that philosophically... Right, on the organ donation bit I get that Karl already thinks that he's explained and Steve's just not getting that, but if you carry down that line of logic it doesn't matter if they take your eyes, you're already a ghost and you had eyes when you died. Either, as Karl says about headless ghosts, ghost bodies are as they were when you died and nothing matters (so you could have eyes removed) or the body needs certain things to stay in to work as a ghost (eg eyes to see, brain to give instructions). Can't work both ways.

Birds find it hard to communicate with modern noisy human living, mainly from cars so they communicate when it's quietest, it's our fault not the bird's. I noticed this in lockdown, bird's communicating more in the day rather than 3am.🤪

A lot of the climbers who didn't make it (exposure or falling into fissures/chasms and the like) are still up there, due to being inaccesible and/or because of the further risk to life posed to would-be reclamation efforts. Looking into it makes for some interesting, if grim, reading.

I'm with Steve that didn't explain anything... they don't remove your eyes for donation when your still alive they do it after you've already died...

I can see why you like these but they do cut a lot out which spoils them a bit. You miss a lot of context.

Not always secluded areas - many people dump stuff in the open on the street in residential areas.

If you don't need the rest of your physical organs to function as a ghost, why would you need your physical eyes to see as a ghost? Steve's right.
