Karl isn't a character, he's not an act. This is Karl Pilkington. Ricky and Steve have been accused of creating this character many times but their argument against that is infallible: " If we created a character this brilliant do you think we'd be flogging it on a poxy local radio station?" (Referring to their time at XFM) They said that when they were on the top of their "The Office" success too. It'd be stupid of them to waste this comedic genius there if they already had the world in their hands. If they made this character up they would've been paid for it.

Karl has no understanding of processes, he thinks everything comes from sudden leaps and not gradual progression. He thinks aliens must have brought us silicon chips because in his mind someone would have to look at sand and think 'hmm, I could make a computer out of that', otherwise.

Great video again, lots of laughs 😅 I'm glad you enjoy doing these - I enjoy watching them 😆 A great Charlotte's Web reference there - that was one of the first movies to make me cry as a child 🤣

Right, too many things in this video which I would pick up and rant about if I started, so shall just go with great video Mandy, your infectious laughter and thoughts on Karl just add to the experience, and just IMO this video more than any other showcases how Karl, despite his imaginative abilities, struggles to understand both wider concepts/ why people study them, and more simple logic-based concepts like if X = Y, and Y leads to Z, therefore Z can be worked back to X....

These characters are unique, never to be repeated…not sure if I mentioned before, but Karl has played a detective in an itv drama, and believed in him

I laughed everytime he showed up on screen and said anything. He's got the same bewildered look, with his mouth hanging open, when he's busting criminals.

When you do Idiot Abroad. A lot of the videos have a "next time" at the end full of spoilers for the next episode. I recommend ending the video there and not watching them

Nice reaction. ✌️❤️ Personally, this is one of the clips I like less. I love Karl but I don't like Ricky that much for obvious reasons. He can be a bit full of himself. I do like Karl's answers. And yes, Karl does stay within the box for the clip and he knows what's going on. The xfm radio show which is the foundation for the podcast shows more of how Karl is. Karl is quite good at sticking it to both Ricky and Steve. The riddle in the end is almost the same as the riddle he told Karl on an xfm radio show (might be included in a podcast too) , so I would say he's playing it up sometimes while still being himself. Karl is a very good producer and he knows what people enjoy watching. An idiot abroad is in my opinion the best show with Karl that has video to it. (Xfm shows are still my favorites and I have listened to them for some 15 years. I turn on a Playlist with episodes before I go to bed. Keep up the fun reactions, your laughter brings joy to others and you're gorgeous as always. ✌️❤️

Ricky is talking as if he knows, but most of what he is saying is theory, medical science is far more fact based at the end, delivering new ways to save lives, etc, but of course TVs, laptops, plastic and so many other things started in forms of science, not all science is true, not all is theory, but that some leads to something solid does not mean its all solid. Everything has to have an obvious practical purpose to Karl, the pursuit of Knowledge just for the sake of it is beyond him. Also the way said Logic reminded me of ASMR!

When it comes to basic stuff 8 out of 10 times Karl's instinct is correct, but he explains it in a way that is too simple and easy to refute and he also uses silly examples to back up his points. Ricky is cleverer than Karl, but Karl's instincts are wiser than Ricky's, I would say.

You got it exactly right when talking about the spider. Karl has said before it would be interesting if creatures had proper jobs, that's why he loves his crazy monkey news so much. To him animals which sit around doing nothing are pretty much useless and there is no point to them😂😂😂

I think you're right that Karl's reactions are not just automatic. I think his genius is that he partly just really says and does hilarious stuff unintentionally, but also has a great sense for what will make Ricky and others laugh. So he knows which parts of his reactions to show more or in which direction to go in a conversation. And I think he enjoys doing that :)

Its hard for ppl to understand it but yes, thats really what hes like

I was bothered by the first episode of The Ricky Gervais Show, but later realized that Karl is in on all of it and doesn't mind at all. He worked with Ricky for years and chose to do so. Also I find myself agreeing with him all the time and find his views of the world very relatable! Ricky on the other hand is quick to judge and often wrong. 🤪

Karl's beauty is his 'cartoon' view of the world. Every animal has its own agenda in his mind. Ive always loved the way he humanises animals and insects by giving them our free will and emtions, gotta love that man ❤

You mean he WAS excellent at those things. XFM/Office/RGS era Ricky was amazing, but he has only gone down hill since then/recently. Just look at his Twitter, he loves himself and makes terrible jokes. Or watch his most recent stand up too, such a downgrade from his old stuff, with recycled or just bad jokes. Sad to see really, as I've watched the Ricky Gervais Show, and listened to all the XFM shows many many times over the last decade, and still find everything he does in those hilarious.

The old stuff with xfm etc was gold but Ricky is terrible nowadays. Recycling jokes, kinda full of himself and the transphobic turn he took has not helped. Ever since Karl split from them, Ricky has just become worse for every year. I still enjoy the old xfm radio shows regularly though.

But you can’t fit animals on a boat.

Can you imagine what would happen if Karl was abducted by Aliens and questioned ? Either the Aliens would self-destruct out of complete bafflement or they would blow up the Earth.

Mandy, Karl Pilkington is not dumb. He was a producer at xfm a huge UK radio station. Karl Pilkington also wrote and stared in Sick of it. Absolutely hilarious. Karl is well aware of what's going on. You really need to watch Idiot Abroad. Even if you don't react it. It's brilliant TV sending Karl all over the world in extreme circumstances. A idiot abroad made the UK fall in love with him.
