As with Poland on land stuck on an open plain to be carved up by neighbours even when it had saved them, England then the UK at sea was in an exposed strategic situation at the mercy of anybody who controlled any of the seas around it but with a much smaller population than France or, at the time Spain etc. Survival of the nation depended on a fleet that could dominate those seas at all times and given the European technological advantage that meant all seas and divide and rule on the European continent and beyond- it was a very unlikely all or nothing competitive survival strategy lasting for several hundred years but the technology cards fell our way.

It was due to a particular type of fungal infection which grew / grows on blackcurrant bushes, which attack pine trees, which Americans use / grow to build houses etc. Hence the ban in importing or growing blackcurrant bushes in the US. Somehow (genetics?) Europe has managed to grow blackcurrant bushes without that fungus (I forget it's name, sorry) or ignore the effects of it...and here in the UK, we dont seem to have the same effect on our pine trees so continue to grow and use blackcurrants for all sorts of foods and drinks. The late Queen Elizabeth II's East Anglian Sandringham estate, in Norfolk grows blackcurrants which supplies Ribena so that they can make their soft fruit drinks, either the diluted ones in small individual sized cartons, or in bottles which require being diluted - usually by adding water to about a third or a quarter full in a glass, then mixing with water to make either a cool refreshing blackcurrant drink, or a hot - if adding hot water - one. Tasty. Blackcurrants are also used as a topping on cheesecake, or as an ice cream flavour, or in a pie with (or without) sliced apples, or in a jam, or as a flavour for jelly. ('Jello' to Americans!) Lots of ways to enjoy blackcurrants and even in America🇺🇲, because I heard there's a place (where? Sorry, I don't know, maybe California?!) ) where they grow blackcurrant bushes, and so can enjoy the unique taste of our beloved blackcurrants!! 🤞🥤🧃☕🍹🍨🥧😊 😏🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿♥️🇬🇧🙂🖖

Throughout my school years some of the periods we studied included pre-history, Roman, the Anglo-Saxons and Vikings, some periods in medieval history, the English Renaissance, georgian (focusing on George IV because I lived in Brighton), and Victorian (with an emphasis on the Industrial Revolution). At college it was both the world wars, Ireland (my history teacher was Irish), the Russian Revolution and Victorian and later political history (including Gladstone and Disraeli). That is a hell of lot of ground to cover, and I’m afraid American history just didn’t get a look in.

90% of UK’s blackcurrant yield goes into making Ribena, which is a popular kids drink. Other than that, they’re generally sold frozen mixed up with blackberries and red fruits, or made into jam. It would be a misconception to think of them as being ‘everywhere’. Compared to other fruits, they’re relatively uncommon.

Be careful with this guy. He is rather Brit based, in his military reviews as well, of which he did a lot. The fact that Britain does not cover the first 100 years of the US is intentional because it is a big black mark on their history. It would be like the Vietnam war not getting covered in school. The rest of Europe does not cover this period of time in the US either, but most of them had nothing to do with it, nor its impact until about WW I, apart from Spain. So, I think his ranting about why they do not cover it is just utter bias, and a degree of failure. It would be like the Vietnam War not covered in US schools. And where does he get "the 52 state"??? I realize that a lot of European countries think that there are 51 states in the US, but he certainly should know better, so maybe he was just using the 'European' perception. Also, the main reason for the rebellion was not the tax issue, but it was that Britain put Boston under lock and key and removed their state charter. Of course taxes was an issue and got up their dander as well, but it was the Red coats that took over Massachuttes, that put the fear in ALL of the rest of the colonies. So, he himself does not understand what happened and why the majority of the colonies were willing to fight the British. It is not a gi focus to the Brits because it is a black mark, and a failure, so it has been by passed for 200 years! When my wife and I were in the Tower of London on July 4, 1970, a Beefeater (Tower guard) said to us "Do you know what today is?" I responded with, "No", not thinking about what day it really was. His response was "The day we got rid of you!" This does NOT sound like it is a none issue or a non event. For example, he states "...the birth of one of the most influential nations in modern history.' is again so biased. The US is the most influential nation in HUMAN history. The Roman empire (percentage of known and civilized world)came close, as did the British empire, but the US has majorly influence the history of Europe twice, and has impacted the entire world with its culture and technology around the entire world. But he does not want to either admit this or mention it. Also, black current is available in most grocery stores. But this may depend on where you live, and also if you are in a big city or small town. And it is way better than Grape. Grape is mainly for kids, or anyone else who has not been exposed to the other better flavors. The term Southrn Ireland does not exist. There is only a Northern Ireland, which is NOT the whole northern portion of Ireland. Its existence is base don religion. In the 16th century in England, under the rule of Henry the 8th, he wanted to divorce his French wife of 20 years, which the Pope would not allow, since divorce was not allowed for Catholics. So, Henry decided to break from the Pope, and started his own religion so he could divorce his wife, and to marry Ann Boelyn, the mother of Queen Elizabeth I. Since she did not present him with a son, he made up some excuses and beheaded her! At any rate, Britain became 'protestant', and King Henry took over all the Catholic monestaries and churches. So, a small portion of Ireland went along with this transformation, but the rest of the country did not, and remained Catholic. This part of Ireland is now called Northern Ireland. They decide to remain part of Britain, simple due to the religious factor. This simple decision resulted in warring between the two Irish factions for many decades, and the launch of the IRA and all of their terrorism - yes real terrorism.

We learned about history of my country England like The Kings and Queens in our history, Vikings, Romans, Celts, Saxons, Normans ( I am a Celt and a Norman due to my parents and there heritage). We learned about The War of the Rose's, the English Civil War and other wars in the British Isles. I learned about WW1, WW2, the holocaust, Irish history as my late Dad came from the Republic of Ireland and my late Mum came from Northern Ireland .Personally I have absolutely no interest in the American Revolution, the only thing in the United States is the American Civil War as I had Ancestor's fighting in it on the Union side, and that is the only part of American history that I have anything to do with. I am a fanatic of military history. 💂‍♂️💂‍♂️💂‍♂️💂‍♂️🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🇮🇪🇮🇪🇮🇪🇮🇪
