My thoughts...maybe that's what Jesus meant, if your right hand causes you to sin, chop it off , it's better to go into heaven without a right hand than hell with both hands. But I'm sure if Mcarthur said so, he must have explained his reasoning. We must remember, we follow Christ, not man. As wonderful as JMac is, he still makes mistakes.

This was one of the first videos of Macarthur I saw following on from that movie and I still remember seeing him up there, an older man speaking plainly in a suit and I struggled. These were the kinds of people during my time in a charismatic church we were warned of because of their dead churches. They were trying to stifle the work of the Holy Spirit! It was a long process but the scales had finally fallen from my eyes. I am finally in a bible believing church (oh no!), reading the Bible daily (not just the nice bits that made me feel good) and no longer praying for God's "fire and revival anointing!" But instead for His will to be done. I do not agree with Macarthur on everything I've learned, but thankfully that's okay. I was in bondage as a younger "christian" to allow the pastors to decide my beliefs for me, I accepted and followed the teachings of men in the past even when it contradicted the Bible. I thank Christ that he set me free. The "gospel" is no longer that buzz word I didn't actually understand that acted as a gateway to being the supernatural world shaker I was called to be. It is now the very thing I have truly understood, I am a sinner deserving of God's wrath, saved by the finished work of Christ. From fundamentalist charismatic to atheist, and now redeemed child of God. What a journey!

We left a charismatic prosperity gospel teaching church here in South Africa called CRC (Christian Revival Church) led by At Boshoff in 2017 after being there for almost 10 years. For a number of years we were in a spiritual desert, and by the sovereign grace of God, found our way to American Gospel. I was finally saved when I heard the true gospel preached. I appreciate her saying “ hyper charismatic” because there are many false charismatics as are their false Baptists, false evangelicals, ect. I Love Pastor MacArthur and have learned much from him but there can be no erasing of the gifts of the spirit in the Word. The reason it is such a hard movement to stamp out is because it is all over the Bible. It is not something somebody added to scripture. I wish Penecostal and Baptist could have sweet fellowship and agree to disagree about some of these matters rather than viewing one another with suspicion and contempt. I have never considered myself any denominational label but have always simply said and lived as a man who loves Jesus, His Church, and the Word of God. I was saved while at a Baptist church and now I’m in a Pentecostal church. I have found that to the faithful adherers to both denominations we agree on nearly everything except a few NON ESSENTIAL issues. But Just like in our culture we define one another by our differences and look at one of the other as enemies and with much suspicion. Tragically this is happening in the body of Christ. It ought not to be so. The most important thing about you and I who are born again is that fact that we belong to Jesus Christ through faith in Him and only because of His shed blood . May God unite His true church and bring honor and glory to Him forever more amen ❤️🙏

We went from a holiness church to a charismatic church because we were missing real substance in the preaching topical & feel good messages just weren’t enough so when a friend gave me some cassettes in the 80’s I listened. I could have gotten triggered & gone for a safe space with puppy & teddy bear but the Holy Spirit let me see as the scripture was explained. After a few yrs we found a church & through moves to another state found again an expository preacher. I loaned those tapes to a friend whom I looked up to but he just was too deep into his beliefs & wouldn’t listen to any other exposition of scripture. Too many people go to “well that’s just your opinion” but if you dig deep as God tells us to you’ll recognize the truth if you can let go of your emotional attachment to traditions. The Pharisees couldn’t they held their teachings above the word of God. We used to hold “a word from god” equal with scripture & fresher. That’s Post Modernist Deconstructionism in the church there is much much more if one is willing to listen to dissenting words & not be like the easily triggered culture of today & go for ad hominem attacks.

"When you began to hear the truth you knew it was the truth." The problem with this is that it sounds an awful lot like the burning of the bosom experience that Mormons think they have. And I see some comments about it that make me wonder if people are valuing their experience too highly. While I understand what Dr. MacArthur was expressing, and I agree with the statement, everyone else in other religions think they have had that same experience. And the two on the road to Emmaus referred to the burning in their bosom. However, that should never be the determining factor for why we believe. The Bible alone is our foundation for what we believe. Yet, I do get that when God opens your eyes, there's no closing them again! The problem is, how do we help others who think they've had their eyes opened to understand that they really haven't? I don't think there's anything we can really do about that. Only God can open eyes. I think the only thing we can do is be faithful students of his word, and draw as close to him as we can, and then present the gospel as clearly as we can. That's it. The rest is up to God.

As pastor Mac Arthur says in this video, there is no strategy to have discernment. If we have the Holy Spirit in us He will show us what is the truth, which will always match with the Word of God. The following verse confirms what he says… “But you have received the Holy Spirit, and he lives within you, so you don’t need anyone to teach you what is true. For the Spirit teaches you everything you need to know, and what he teaches is true-it is not a lie. So just as he has taught you, remain in fellowship with Christ.” (1 John‬ ‭2:27‬ ‭NLT‬‬)

There should be order. When tongues are spoken, there should be an interpreter. With an out interpreter, no one can profit or be edified (unless they understand the person speaking in tongues). - “GOD is not the Author of confusion.” 1 Corinthians 14 Orderly Worship 26How is it then, brethren? when ye come together, every one of you hath a psalm, hath a doctrine, hath a tongue, hath a revelation, hath an interpretation. Let all things be done unto edifying. 27If any man speak in an unknown tongue, let it be by two, or at the most by three, and that by course; and let one interpret. 28But if there be no interpreter, let him keep silence in the church; and let him speak to himself, and to God. 29Let the prophets speak two or three, and let the other judge. 30If any thing be revealed to another that sitteth by, let the first hold his peace. 31For ye may all prophesy one by one, that all may learn, and all may be comforted. 32And the spirits of the prophets are subject to the prophets. 33For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace, as in all churches of the saints.

You mean attacking a distortion* of the biblical gift of tongues? MacArthur pointed out "false promises* of speaking in tongues..." and "private* prayer languages..." One can affirm a biblical view of tongues and deny the two things MacArthur mentions: 1. The Promise of Tongues as Evidence of the Spirit's Work in Regeneration (scripture teaches that not all will have the gift of tongues) 2. Tongues as a Private Prayer language (vs. an actual human language).

Jesus addresses His disciples and their egotism Mark 9:38, NASB: "John said to Him, 'Teacher, we saw someone casting out demons in Your name, and we tried to prevent him because he was not following us.'" The verse feels like a non-sequitur: a statement with broken logic. However, it's part of the longer conversation about where individuals fit in to Jesus' kingdom. The disciples assume they are first and will have the most authority. As a result, they argue to see where they rank with respect to each other. Jesus explains that leaders are first and foremost servants. They should be more concerned about welcoming the powerless, like children, than displaying their own power (Mark 9:34-37). So they ask about someone who publicly appears to be in their group but isn't. Jesus says they're still being too exclusionary. If this man has faith enough to exorcise demons in Jesus' name, he's not a threat to the kingdom, even if he may be a threat to the disciples' egos (Mark 9:17-18). John is also telling in his wording, "he was not following us." There is no "us" to follow: there is only Christ. Paul talks about this when he chastises the Corinthians for claiming to follow a human leader-Apollos or Peter or himself (1 Corinthians 1:12). Paul points out that such thinking leads to ungodly tribalism when, really, they are all servants of the Lord (1 Corinthians 3:3-5). The fact that this man was, apparently, successful where the disciples themselves had recently failed would have also been a blow to their pride. How often do we discourage someone who has success where we failed? Especially if they're not in our established system? The disciples' attitude is very close to that of the scribes and Pharisees who reject Jesus not because He works against God but because He isn't in their exclusive club (Mark 3:22).

With regards to the question: Not sure what answer they're looking for exactly, but here's my take. Mark "38 And John answered him, saying, Master, we saw one casting out devils in thy name, and he followeth not us: and we forbad him, because he followeth not us. 39 But Jesus said, Forbid him not: for there is no man which shall do a miracle in my name, that can lightly speak evil of me. 40 For he that is not against us is on our part." Matthew "15 *Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.* 16 *Ye shall know them by their fruits.* Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles? 17 Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit. 18 A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit. 19 Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire. 20 Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them. 21 *Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.* 22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not *prophesied in thy name?* and *in thy name have cast out devils?* and *in thy name done many wonderful works?* 23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work *iniquity."* If they're asking how to reconcile that verse in light of all the false stuff going on. 39 But Jesus said, Forbid him not: for there is no man which shall do a miracle in my name, that can lightly speak evil of me. -Jesus is simply saying here that those who shall do a *REAL* miracle in Jesus's name won't just "lightly speak evil of" Him. *Jesus didn't say everyone who shall do "miracles" or "cast out devils" in "His" name are true Christians or "prophets", just that those who did a legit miracle in Christ's name won't just lightly speak evil of Jesus.* *Like if you were able to do a real legit saving miracle in Christ's name will you after that lightly speak evil of Jesus? Or will you then reverence or acknowledge Him instead?* Most of these fake "faith" healers aren't really doing any real miracles anyway. 40 For he that is not against us is on our part. I think this meaning is clear in light of context. Because Jesus answered this based on the statement: "38 And John answered him, saying, Master, we saw one casting out devils in thy name, and he followeth not us: and we forbad him, because he followeth not us." *-Just because SOME one guy isn't "following" them, doesn't necessarily mean he's not a part of God's "team". And that simply anyone that is not against them is on their part. (For he that is not against us is on our part.)* So to not forbid him to do miracles in Christ's name, because if God will grant his request for miracle *why stop him just because he's not "following" that group (especially when he's trying to do something good)?* God hears individual people *(especially those who are His),* not SIMPLY the people in some *"official"* collective group of people. And if God grants the miracle, do you think that guy would lightly speak evil of Jesus? *So, main point of that: don't forbid the guy to do miracles in Christ's name.* *That's what I personally think off the top of my head.* So, anyone can correct me, if I'm wrong, but *prove through Scripture.* Also, not really sure what the questioner is looking for exactly. *And I'm not talking to antagonistic anti-theists. If you want to argue go elsewhere.* God bless

Amen elder brother and Pastor Mac Arthur. Blood coming from all over his body and NAKED hanging on that cross like torture weapon! What a Lord and God and Savior! He had to do it. HE is God the Son and only His body and blood could pay the sins price of ALL ever! 1 John 2:1-2. God has richly blessed you. Subscribed. The Apostle Paul testified; Romans 1:16 "For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believes; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek". This praise resounds across the earth: "Jesus is Lord and only He saves". Jesus testified: ''I and my Father are One" John 10:30. 2 Samuel chapter 22:verse 50 "Therefore I will praise you, O Lord, out of the countries, and I will praise your name." JESUS SAVES God the Son (Jesus Christ) has given us the gospel to share with the world. Mark 16:15: "And He said unto them, Go into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature." How can anyone hear the "good" news? Romans 10:17 "Then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God." (We receive the "word" in many ways. The "Word" is Jesus Christ!); John 1:1-5 The Spirit teaches through the Word. Isaiah 7:14: "Therefore the LORD shall give you a sign; behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and call His name Immanuel." Hebrew: עִמָּנוּאֵל, "God with us" in human flesh but without sin. The Savior of the world was born to die for our sins! He did so 33 years later. His terrible ordeal; body mutilated; blood poured out, finally died and was placed in a tomb and rose from the dead the 3rd day ! "HE IS RISEN" Matthew 28:6. Isaiah 53:5 "But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed. 6 All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the Lord hath laid on him the iniquity of us all." - IT IS FOUNDED UPON GOD'S LOVE FOR MAN AND WOMAN HE CREATED John 3:16 "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in him should not perish, but have everlasting life." "For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God." Romans 3:23 " For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord." Romans 6:23 " Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man comes to the Father, but by me.."John 14.6 "1 Corinthians 15:3 "For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; 4 And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:" THE PAYMENT BY HIS BLOOD FOR ALL SINS EVER! "And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world." 1 John 2: 2 Romans 5:8 " But God demonstrates his love for us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. 9 Much more then, now justified by his blood, we will be saved from wrath through him." “For he (God) hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.” 2 Corinthians 5:21. " In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace;." Ephesians 1:7 Matthew 26:28 "For this is my blood of the New Testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins." (the life is in the blood. He had to pay with His life) BY GOD'S GRACE ALONE THROUGH FAITH ALONE IN JESUS CHRIST ARE WE SAVED Ephesians 2:8 "For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: 9 not of works, lest any man should boast." Jesus died to pay the penalty for our sins and rescue us from eternal death. Because of Jesus' death on our behalf, all we have to do is believe in Him, trusting in His death and in the shedding of His blood as payment for our sins, as well as in His burial and resurrection from the dead the third day, and we will be saved! John 20:24-31; See also 1 Corinthians 15:3-4 above. WHOSOEVER BELIEVES SHALL TESTIFY TO THE TRUTH Romans 10: 9 That if you shall confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus, and shall believe in your heart that God has raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For with the heart man believes in righteousness; And a confession by mouth is given for salvation. 13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. TO DIE IS TO REJECT SALVATION IN JESUS CHRIST AND BE SEPARATE FROM GOD FOREVERMORE IN A CONSCIOUS STATE IN THE LAKE OF FIRE Salvation and forgiveness of sins is the blessing of anyone who believes in Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. We receive the baptism of God the Holy Spirit immediately which seals us in Christ and that is permanent! Ephesians 1:13-14. Those who reject the free gift of salvation, see John 3: 16 above, "perish", which means their sins are judged by God the Son and they suffer eternal separation from God and the family of God forever called the "second death". Revelation 21:8.

I wonder if John Macarthur didn’t hear her say Mark 9? She didn’t specify which verses in 9 either. I liked his answer but Mark 9 wasn’t addressed. Bummer.

He has preached right through the NT so if you go to GTY it's easy to find the sermon. The passage would have also been preached at Strange Fire.

American Gospel was such a cleverly devised, extreme, and unbalanced deceptive reaction to what the "charismatic chaos". It attempted to solve a "problem" with a "solution" that is also a problem. I feel bad for individuals that have been so "scarred" by things in the Pentecostal/Charismatic churches that they totally leave the power of God altogether. Draped in a foggyness of supposed "biblical truth," an individual leaves the new wine because some may have spilled it. John MacArthur, a well-respected pastor, falls way short of understanding the gifts of the Spirit. I pray that this young lady continue in her walk with the Lord, and properly come back to the power of God, not holding back because of bad experiences, but also being discerning of the same.

I do believe In speaking in tongues , prophecy , and casting out demons . It’ is written , the Lord said on Luke 10:19-20 Luke 10:19 Behold, I have given you authority to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing will injure you. Luke 10:20 Nevertheless do not rejoice in this, that the spirits are subject to you, but rejoice that your names are recorded in heaven."

I agree with you…. I was raised in Castleton into charismatic as a teen I have been in that stream most of my life and had wonderful experience going deeper in God…but I also have been very turned off with the hyper charismatic and feel it is not from heaven so I have been more comfortable listening and a hearing to expository preaching of the word… I.e. Jack Hibbs and the Calvary pastors even John MacArthur which I love a deep teaching but I am realizing that the more fundamental word preaching seems to miss something for me and my pendulum is swinging…The American gospel movie was so disturbing but I felt it was true true… if only the fundamentalists (I mean Mcarthur, Calvary pastors, other non-charasmatics) would be open more to the move of the Holy Spirit… I guess that’s where my struggle is…. Any thoughts on that ?

It’s what concerns me , I recommend you to listen to a young evangelist Daniel Chand .

@@dalyp7799 Let us go to Scripture: There should be order.
