A few others things that give me hope on season three: 1-A showrunner who mapped out all the plots, storylines and character arcs before the season started and was apparently able to stick to these ideas all the way through. This did not happen in season two and it didn't happen in the beloved season one either. 2- Ten episodes instead of eight. Finally the series is getting some breathing room to tell a season's worthy of storylines. 3-Shadow finally having agency and doing things on his own without playing tag-along with Wednesday or having other gods dictate the directions he goes in. 4-That New York Comic Con zoom Q&A with the cast. Everyone seemed happy and satisfied with what their characters got to do and there were a bunch of dropped hints of interesting times awaiting us in season three.

As a German hopes that the conflict between Odin and Tyr in the season can be traced back to the fact that Tyr is angry with Odin for knocking him off the throne as King of the Gods. Before the Germanic migration of peoples in late antiquity, Tyr was the king of the Germanic gods under his name Ziu among the southern Germanic peoples. It was not until the northern Germanic tribes invaded the south that Odin / Wotan took on the role of all-father. Would be cool to see that Tyr / Ziu is arguing with Odin / Wotan because he is sending Shadow to Lakeside with it in his southern Germanic sphere of influence, after all, most of the first residents of Lakeside were from Germany. The fact that Odin / Wotan also draws Hinzelman in, a German legendary figure could fit in well. (In my opinion, it would be better if Hinzelman were a man, but maybe that's simply because such legendary figures are almost always male here in Germany). Or Tyr is Viking Metal in the process of building up a new figure of the Norse gods and Odin / Wotan doesn't like them. Too much apocalyptic mood.

As so far as Mr Nancy is concerned, can you tell me in what way did he push the narrative forward during season two? Because I can't think of any. Mr Nancy suffered from having one of the greatest introductions in the history of TV (a classic scene) and not being able to come close to living up to that in any following appearances, including season one. Yes, he remained an interesting and mostly amusing character largely thanks to Orlando Jones. But he also became increasingly pointless and was left just lecturing and scolding others, in particular Shadow. All he did in season two was give speeches and deliver putdowns. He became one of the worse casualties of the behind-the-scenes troubles of season two. This left the actors often to their own devices and opened the door to Jones getting the opportunity to write his on dialogues. And while much of what he wrote was powerful, those scenes often added little to the plot of the episodes they took place and allowed Jones to deliver extremely long monologues while his fellow actors (playing gods themselves) looked awkwardly on. Not certain of what led to TPTB limiting his role in season three other than his part being small in that section of the book. But whatever went down it was arguably inappropriate for Jones to claim the showrunner was a racist without being able to provide anything that backed that up. I say this as an African American male myself. For all we know he could have been brought back strong for a season four if the show gets a 4th season. That said I do think Jones has an argument when you consider how the show keeps giving Bilquis ample screen time. She has been a character equally at drift since her early appearances in season one. The character of course has only a small part in the book and dies in a dismissive and humiliating fashion. I get that considering the demographics at work, the optics would have been bad if Bilquis suffered a similar fate on the show. But I believe whatever reason why the first season's showrunners decided to keep her around was lost in season two when new showrunners took over. And what worries me is this notion that now Bilquis will be portrayed as some goddess who played a role in the struggle of African Americans, in particularly African American women through the work of some of the most admired African American women in history. Sorry but that was never the interpretation of Bilquis in the book or even in season one. That was more Nancy's role. So it may have been a great sting for Jones to see his character's purpose suddenly transferred to Bilquis.

@@BenBeeza I disagree. Anansi was not the soul connection. As a matter of fact season 2 episode 5 Shadow was the fulcrum of the plot point regarding the lynched black man. My point is that these stories can still be told without Anansi. The nature of Anansi is that he gave an expression to the story being told, but the story was still told. And with so many clearly West African deities we can only assume the story will continue to be told. I just don’t see a loss right now, perhaps as season 3 proceeds that will change.

@@BenBeeza I know what your point is, mah china. Your argument is absolutely right. And I loved Anansi's character as well because he represents/expresses the rage of black people in our society. But you can't make that the whole show, you know? If that is the only reason the author had written his book and the show is about then I don't see where the problem is. But it's not. Political correctness when it exceeds to a certain extent becomes very dull and forced. Look at films that were made to promote female empowerment - Wonder Woman(1984), Charlie's Angels, Ocean's 8. They were supposed to be great films but they went too far by making 98% of the male characters(including extras) the bad people. And of course, I'm all for female empowerment, but films like these won't work and won't be able to convey the message they want to get across nor would they make any change they wanted to make. So coming back to Orlando Jone/Anansi topic. In my opinion, the story of American Gods has enough elements of conveying such message. If people feel Orlando Jones/Anansi is not getting enough screen time in the story then he should get a "spin-off" and not taking over the show.

The lilac car. That is what is intriguing me a lot. That lilac/light purple car that first appears at the :22 mark of the official trailer. This car is being shown from on-high at a rear angle on an empty freeway. The next shot it is seen at more ground level driving past a Welcome to Lakeside sign. This suggests this isn't one of the town regulars driving the vehicle. Why waste a shot of one of the town folks riding back into the town? I would think such footage would be better used on a character or characters who are not citizens and arriving to Lakeside the first time. So who would this outsider or these outsiders be? Its not Shadow. He will be arriving via bus or train IMO. Its not Wednesday because his two vehicles I've seen him and his new assistant, Cordelia, are making their journey in in the various promotion clips, do not match this lilac car. Could it be Laura? Possibly. In the book Laura does make that journey to Lakeside to see Shadow so perhaps she is driving this car to get there, probably in the back half of the season. What intrigues me about this is that this car appears to be the same one that sits in the dark on the ice at :32, the one those of us familiar with the book will assume is the clunker. Now I can't be sure this car is that exact same one but I am clear about one thing : near the end at 2:08 there is a quick shot of Shadow's reflection as he looks towards what is beyond the outside of a window. Standing in a street are both Chad Mulligan and Marguerite. There are three cars in their surroundings. Mulligan's police car is stopped in the middle of the street with a door open and Mulligan next to it as if he had to come to a quick stop because of an emergency. Marguerite is further back leaning over the top of her own car. The third vehicle in the middle? That lilac car. Both Mulligan and Marguerite are looking curiously in Shadow's direction, as if they are trying to figure out what is going on....or who he is with. I am assuming Shadow is inside some diner having a talk with this "stranger" who arrived in that light purple automobile. But why is that causing such a fuss for Marguerite and Mulligan? What is happening? Also not too long after that there is the other brief moment of Wednesday with is back to the camera standing on a dock in front of a body of water as he looks on possibly wistfully at the horizon. This part of the book is when Wednesday "dies", so I just have a gut feeling that not only will that take place this season but that this moment will be one of the final ones for him. But unlike the book which has some goons of the New Gods take him down, it wouldn't surprise me in the least if Laura does the job with Wednesday's weapon. It would represent all sorts of payback on her part and will give her storyline purpose. With the rendition of the Frank Sinatra song "My Way" and those opening lines "now the end is near" that we hear at the opening of this trailer, I think the conclusion of storylines is coming for at least one of the major characters.

Also I feel that theory of yours about Shadow's ancestors being the figures standing behind him in that final shot of him is an incorrect one. In one of the multiple advertisement clips there is one of Shadow in that same outfit and in that same wintery setting being sprawled out on ice as figures rise from the snow and ice to reach out to him. I'm guessing this has to do with that part of the novel when there is a discovery Shadow makes concerning Lakeside's troubled past.

Are all the Mr’s connected but seperate from Mr World? In the subtitles from the first episode the road block guy comes up as Mr Road. Found it interesting that Wednesday said that once a God comes to America they can’t leave. He could have been lying to excuse his terrible behaviour, he is cunning after all.
