🇺🇸 American fam's first time in 🇵🇭 the Philippines!

Our family arrived in Manila late last night-and after a travel day of uncertainty that was caused by a powerful typhoon sweeping through the northern Philippines the previous evening. We weren’t sure we were going to make it into town at all, but now that we’re here, we’re ready to explore the city’s sites and bites. Today, we’re trying to fit in way too many stops, including but not limited to, checking out the Manila baywalk and beach, visiting the largest mall in Asia, exploring the top street food of the oldest chinatown in the world, and eating the cheapest Michelin-starred meal on the planet.

ABOUT US
We’re the Lockwoods. And we’re traveling the world to experience-up close and in person-all the natural wonders and distinct cultures that our kids would otherwise be consuming only through textbooks and TV. We think it’s a better way to learn and we’re working hard to fund this little experiment in the hope that our kids will grow up wiser, kinder, and more grateful for the beauty of our diverse planet and its people.

Here is a tip, if you are lost, ESPECIALLY in a mall, go talk to a security guard. The ones in white, who are inspecting at the entrances, and you can also find them patrolling the mall grounds. They will know, 80-90% of the time where a specific place or store might be.

Yes, it's different, it's clean, but it's not really clean. Look, the dirt is really different, even dog and cat poop is on the sidewalk because people don't care about our environment, so the Philippines will not develop while that son of Dictator Ferdinand Marcos Sr. is sitting. that Ferdinand Bongbong Marcos Jr. and Filipinos will continue to suffer and Filipinos will not be disciplined here in our country, that's why I want to go to Japan because the Japanese are disciplined there, and there is not even a single dirt in Japan, not even garbage is scattered.

FYI... Philippines has the longest Christmas Season in the whole world. It's called the "Ber Months" which starts from September till December. Christmas Season starts very early because Philippines don't have Halloween and Thanksgiving... but now a days, Filipinos are starting to adapt to those events due to a huge western influence. In addition, Halloween in the PH has more similarities with Día de los Muertos event in Mexico without the skull costumes. Anyways, Welcome to PH and I hope you enjoy your stay! dont forget to bond with the locals to experience the real Filipino hospitality.

Let me ask you, are you going to the Philippines, there are many people who don't follow the law, such as it is forbidden to cross the wrong crossing, then there are many people who urinate on the wall and on the tire of the car, many of us. even if they are not squatters, they do that and then at the railway crossing they cross even if there is a barrier because the train is about to pass and then they run to cross just think about it and then the trash and dog or cat poop is just thrown into the canal and anywhere then there are many stray dogs and cats that are left alone to defecate anywhere, that's why the Philippines is the ugliest country in the world, think it's better to go to China, Japan and South Korea, the people there are disciplined and know how to obey the law.

The Philippines is the only country to celebrate Christmas very early. Once the name of the month ends with the "BER" (SeptemBER), most Filipinos start decorating their homes (malls and offices, too!) with Christmas decorations. I do that also but not until October. Hey, It's the fun in putting all the bling blings with all the members of the family that excites us all. And when Christmas Eve and Day arrives, families with the extended ones (some up to 3rd degree cousins or relatives), come together for the true meaning of why we celebrate it ------ GOD and FAMILY!..........GOD Bless you all!

Welcome to the Philippines! Every concern was taken over by the overwhelming comments here. Maybe I'll just point out about the "language barrier" thingy, most of Filipino know basic to expert english tho' most of us find it intimidating having a conversation with foreigners. But, as soon as you get yourselves on a tourist spot you won't find a gap on language barrier. Enjoy your stay!

Oh, 100% and we sure appreciate that so many filipinos take the time to learn English because we clearly didn't even try to learn any Philippine dialects! Still, things can easily get lost in translation, whether its from different accents, different terminology, etc. We certainly didn't use the phrase "language barrier" as a bad thing... just a natural part of experiencing different cultures. We absolutely love the Philippines!

We don't only take time to learn, English IS A PART of our curriculum, from nursery to University. Apart from the English subject itself, most of our subjects in school were taught in English.

The Christmas season in the Philippines is the longest in the world. The "Ber Months," which run from September through December, are known as such. Because Halloween and Thanksgiving are not celebrated in the Philippines, Christmas season begins relatively early. However, because of the strong influence of the west, Filipinos are starting to adjust to those events nowadays. Even though there hasn't been a severe threat to our country in a long time, the Philippines has conventional security procedures in place to protect everyone's safety. You guys are excellent at what you do! Keep going!

Great video. I am a retired American who lives in the province in the Philippines. Your children were surprised about the Christmas stuff in September. The Christmas celebration starts on 1 September in the Philippines. They say any month that ends in BER is Christmas. Their is no holiday in that period like Thanksgiving to wait for. I hope you enjoyed the Philippines as it is a true paradise. God Bless!

Welcome to the Philippines to you all. Mabuhay. What a great place for you guys to explore, the Chinatown. There's no shortage of food and variety of food especially in Manila. This is making me miss my home country. A couple things about Filipino food, most, if not all main dishes are meant to be eaten with rice. The quintessential dipping sauce is some type of vinegar and soy sauce that goes especially well with fried or fatty food. Also, spoon and fork are the choice of utensils. Enjoy your travels and I cannot wait to take my kids to my home country and meet the family and experience all that there is to offer. Food and all. Cheers and happy trails.

In terms of food, the Philippines is the best, but the truth is that the whole Philippines is dirty and almost 80% of the Filipinos there are undisciplined because there are people who throw garbage in the canal and that animal excrement is also thrown there and there are a lot of people spitting everywhere even on the road they are spitting the truth is really disgusting the Philippines is the dirtiest country in the whole world for me it's just that even citizens in the Philippines 90% to 95% are undisciplined and don't care about the environment is better to visit China, South Korea and Japan, the people there are disciplined, even if it's just the environment, it's not really good to visit the Philippines.
