We’re about two-thirds of the way through our 21-day tour of Southeast Asia and so far we’ve experienced the beautiful city of Singapore, the world’s oldest Chinatown in Manila, the tribal lagoons of Coron, and the resort-heavy island of Boracay. Today, we’re packing up and heading southeast to experience the natural wonders of Bohol-and to find out why this destination is one of the most popular in the Philippines. But once again, getting there means first flying back up to Manila and then catching the connecting flight back down.
Unlike the tiny island of Boracay that we just left, Bohol is on the bigger side-it’s the 10th largest in the Philippines. It’s actually one big island and 75 minor surrounding islands. We flew into and staying on one of those minor islands-Panglao-just off the southwestern tip of the main island. In fact, it’s so close that you can drive to it using either of two bridges that span the causeway.
The most popular attraction in Bohol is Chocolate Hills: 1,776 limestone hills stretched over 50 square kilometers of the island. They are covered in green grass that turns brown during the dry season, hence the name. Formed by tectonic shifts that pushed them upwards and then smoothed into conical hills by water erosion. These iconic hills are even featured in the 200 Philippine Peso bill.

ABOUT US.
We’re a family with 3 kids, 5 careers, and endless passion for adventure. Two years ago, we decided it was time for Phil's ad agency to abandon the in-person, 5-day workweek. So they 86’d the office and work hours, allowing our own family to start traveling almost constantly. We now work, school, and explore in a different place every week-from our own mountain and beach homes to exotic villas, resorts, and yachts around the world. As we experience and support diverse cultures, we hope to inspire more families to design a life of freedom and adventure.
Because there’s a new American Dream. It’s one that’s void of templated expectations, templated career paths, templated education, templated families, templated homes, and templated lives. Freedom is no longer an American tagline-it’s just the new, global way of life.
Every day that you spend doing something that doesn’t fulfill you to your core, you’re living your life on pause. You’re deferring genuine family time with no guarantee that there will be a tomorrow or a someday. Some people follow that mentality their entire lives. We’ve chosen to never live that way again.
We appreciate you following our journey. The more our channel grows, the more time we can spend traveling to more locations, contributing to these cultures, highlighting local businesses, and sharing inspiring stories from these communities. So please consider liking, commenting, and subscribing so that you can stick with us for the long haul.

I am a Study Abroad advisor at a large Midwestern university. Let me tell you, my students whose parents exposed them to overseas travel when they were young are the ones I enjoyed working with the most. They are inquisitive, open-minded and eager to explore and meet the locals at their study abroad destinations. They prefer to hang out with local students. Differences don’t faze them. They understand the platinum rule of cultural engagement - treat others as THEY would like to be treated. If many of our young people travel with parents who encourage them to accept and explore cultural diversity, there is hope for this world. Hopefully, I will witness this in my lifetime. All the best to you!

Elle, this is kind of a missing link in our approach to parenting. We hope this is a better way to educate and raise our kids but we also know there are challenges (friendships back home). Thank you for the affirmation that supports the pros over the cons. Coming from someone in your position, this is great to hear 👍🏼🥰

Let me ask you, are you going to the Philippines, there are many people who don't follow the law, such as it is forbidden to cross the wrong crossing, then there are many people who urinate on the wall and on the tire of the car, many of us. even if they are not squatters, they do that and then at the railway crossing they cross even if there is a barrier because the train is about to pass and then they run to cross just think about it and then the trash and dog or cat poop is just thrown into the canal and anywhere then there are many stray dogs and cats that are left alone to defecate anywhere, that's why the Philippines is the ugliest country in the world, think it's better to go to China, Japan and South Korea, the people there are disciplined and know how to obey the law.

Your family having a moment of gratitude for where you are and what you are privileged to experience in life at the moment is such a refreshing change of pace... I get it that tourists enjoy any place they visit and experience and I'm not one to say they aren't grateful for the chance.. But to see you guys teach your children to be humble and learn from these places and still enjoy them... That's actually very good parenting...

@@AlwaysBeChanging I don't know if you're still in the country, but maybe for next time. Try Halo-halo, it's a nice dessert. Literally means mix-mix and it's a mixture of ingredients in the same vein as mixture of cultures from around the world. It's got a mix of tropical beans, ingredients, purple yam ice cream, purple yam, leche flan, coconut. Also try lechon, it's suckling pig. Usually, it's like those Hawaiian pigs where you roast it on a fire, but there are restaurants that you can go for where they give 1 person servings. Cebu is known for spicy lechon. You can also try sizzling sisig (try it with an egg and chili), and also sinigang, which is a sour broth that's usually mixed with water spinach, though sour doesn't do it justice.

I'm glad that here in the Philippines they'd experienced to harvest rice. It was an actual lesson not to waste a single grain of rice. And congratulations you finally found a huge gecko ❤️.
