American Classic Timekeeper $35 Tubeless Road Tire Review

Спорт

American Classic relaunched as a company in 2021 with a new range of tyres, ranging from Road, Gravel, and Commuting. For those who aren't aware of American Classic's history, the company was founded by Mr Bill Shook way back in 1982. Bill, a mechanical engineer and former member of the USA National Cycling Team, felt he could produce components that were lighter, stronger and better than those available at that time. Company ownership has changed, but expect further developments in the future, including a possible line of wheels?
In this video, JOM of the Gravel Cyclist crew covers some of American Classic's history, along with the tech spec, tyre mounting, and ride experience of the Timekeeper road tubeless tire.
"The Timekeeper is our premier road racing tire. Utilizing our signature Rubberforce S tread compound and ultra-light Stage 3 flat protection, the Timekeeper is the fastest rolling tire in the American Classic road collection. With lightning-fast straight-line speed and a confidence-inspiring cornering, the Timekeeper can help you set your next segment PR and climb the ranks of the weeknight crit. 120 TPI construction and Stage 3 flat protection make for a supple and smooth-riding tire that can fend off common puncture hazards."
"This tire is designed for hook-bead (crochet) rims that follow current E.T.R.T.O. standards. This tire is not intended for use with hookless (straight-side) rims."

Thanks for the review. As someone who likes a bargain, these look like a very good tire for the money. I will definitely get a pair to try.

The lovely Ms. Gravel Cyclist in the background definitely balanced out the appearance of the presenter😉. Great review. I think I will give them a shot at that price point and warranty you can’t go wrong

Great tires and great value indeed! I too have a set running on some Farsports rims. They are a great match - looking forward to hearing your take. Cool opening sequence!

Cheers JOM, I was tossing up between these and the Good Year offerings. On the back of what you say, I’ll head on over to the AC website. Great “ No BS” review 👍

As an FYI, follow the Amazon links I have posted at the bottom of the review. American Classic is selling these direct from Amazon only, and I heard USA sales only? I hope that isn't the case.

Agree with your review, have run a rear 700c x 28mm TL for 500miles with no issues, seated first go, more rubber content than my front Conti GP5000TL. The marketing looks very similar to Pirelli 😉, maybe the same OEM.

First, thanks for the entertainment over the years. Secondly to how they roll. I think it would be interesting and important to know who manufactures these. We all know many smaller bike tire brands & large cycling brands have tires manufactured and badged for them by other well known tire brand companies. I think a backstory of the industry would be enlightening and entertaining. Perhaps a little video dive into the industry would find audience.

Thanks for the kind words and feedback. I wish I knew who the manufacturer was, the only clue I see is their casings are similar to tyres under the Goodyear brand. Perhaps the same manufacturer? I will have to put my feelers out, appreciate the backstory idea.

American Classic manufacturers its tires out of its own factory in Taiwan. Thanks to that unique advantage and its direct-to-consumer model is how they are able to offer such great price points - where most tire "brands" need to pay a manufacturer, American Classic is cutting that out.

I have 28mm tubed tires on my roadbike. Perfect width IMO as they provide good comfort. However I.hardly ride it anymore. I either ride my gravel or MTB.

The few complaints about the “tasty” secenery in the background reminds of a scene in crocodile Dundee where Mick grabs the snooty NY croon’s crouch. Sue then says “he’s Australian”. 😂😂😂

Appreciate the words, we need more humour in the comments section :) The complainers are not accepting of a confident, 50yo woman who is fast becoming one heck of a cyclist.

@@GravelCyclist glad you took it in the spirit it was intended! BTW really like the tours of the small towns. A shame to see some of them dying but maybe people will start moving back from out of the cities that are being allowed to descend into chaos and filth.
