should be an additional penalty added to the rule book for interfering with the ball.

All things considered, it ultimately didn’t make a difference. I see what he was trying to do though. Gain a point but lose field position, or take a penalty and don’t get a point but they start 20 yards further back. He probably forgot the rule but still interesting to consider

Yes that's true. Although, had it gone for a single, the Riders might have been forced to go for two at the end and who knows they could have won 32-31 instead, or not at all.

So when the cover team guy was clumsily batting the ball around, what would've happened hypothetically if he'd have knocked it into the endzone and the returner smothered it there? What's the opposite of a safety?? Seems to me there should've been much more than a simple no yards call, since this was a totally intentional conflagration of the rules. The returner was actually hit while in a vulnerable position while attempting to make a play on the ball. Why was there no flag for interference? Why didn't the Riders coach challenge? Why did they not have the option of forcing a re-play of down from 15yds back?

If he intentionally knocked it in, that would be a touchback with no points since it wasn’t directed in goal by the kick. This happened on a fumbled pass in the 2021 Stamps opener. As for the other penalties that’s the ref’s judgement and they didn’t see anything else. No Yards penalty is from the spot the ball is touched so they couldn’t have punted again.
