Both countries provide low salary to their teachers. Americans, as usual, protest and defend their individual rights. Filipinos, as usual, sacrifice and endure. Reminds me of Americans opposing against lockdown while Filipinos are staying, enduring at home. Another one is american nurse quit her job in NY because the hospital could not provide for PPEs while Filipino nurses in NY and other countries continue to report for duty despite knowing the risks of dying. When something's not right, Americans aren't afraid to speak out about it while Filipinos accept it as their destiny I guess.

When she said “your students can put a drop of poison in your drink”, I had a flashback to my HS when two twin brothers in a chemistry class put hydrochloride acid in the teachers’ coffee. They urged him to drink his coffee and he got suspicious and tested it. They were expelled. I can imagine their parents thoughts

I went to middle school in the US and I remember having a Belgian teacher in our English class. The way many of my classmates treated her was absolutely appalling. They bullied her and continuously made fun of her accent. How she managed to go to work everyday knowing she'd face the same form of abuse and harassment from self obsessed, self entitled kids and their parents who tolerated their bad behaviour I will never know.

Born and raised in Manila, I was made fun of because of my accent when I first held my teaching position in the early 2000s. What made it worse was it was in Hawaii, a state whose people had peculiar accents, quite unlike those from the mainland. In addition, some of those students who made fun of me were of Asian decent. Talk about lack of discipline from Asian parents who became white washed. That taught me to somehow adjust my accent when speaking to my students and understand the way they think, become firmer, and at times (as what some students say) become "sassy" especially to the smart*** kids. LOL

Accounts from friends in America honestly shocked me since in the Philippines teachers gain the highest form of respect from their students, from the greetings and how they conduct themselves, It shocked me.

Teachers jobs are outsourced due to pay. Hard to live in America on the pay. So let's under pay foreigners to do the job of educating out youth. Insane. Shallow thinking, very short term.

I have worked in my school district for over 15 yrs, elementary, middle and high school. I can say for a fact that California salaries are decent for teachers but the stress is insane. Students are allowed to tell a teacher to F off, threaten, disrupt classes, with a suspension and returning back to school the next day. Young students are increasingly becoming violent and because administrators have the attitude that every child is entitled to an education, we often see 1 or 2 students who disrupt classes at the expense of the other 25 students . There are no longer consequences for bad behavior. Then you have students being passed on when they have no comprehension of the subject matter . I worked for a high school for 5 yrs And I was astounded That students could graduate with no basic math skills and couldn't put 2 sentences together. Schools get money based on graduation rates, regardless of what they know. Administrators high up are failing our students and our teachers.

All of the replies here are a nice showcase of why I left teaching. Little understandin of what it takes to do a good job, barely any support, if any to do it. Good riddance, the healthcare field has been so much better. He'll I will even be able to go on vacations and afford retirement someday now.

sooo... these districts are hiring foreign teachers as strikebreakers? I respect the Filipino peoples, and I applaud them for their determination and optimism. They deserve actual opportunities, not to be exploited because American school districts don't want to pay educators what they are worth

Singapore, China and Thailand are also hiring Filipino teachers. Japan and South Korea are hiring ESL (English as a Second Language via Online Schools, so there is no need to go physically to Japan and South Korea) Filipino teachers. They are also giving very low salaries compare to Japanese and South Korean teachers. I think teachers around the world with the exception of Brunei and Singapore (they are #1 and #2 highest salary of teachers in the world) are paying teachers with low wages. Sad.

@@lelechim These teachers are living 4 per apartment to save money. They are not planning on staying. In these situations they are going to be sending money back home where it will go a lot further. This is a great deal especially if you get to go work a white collar profession.

@@EckRD Probably true, but I don’t think it’s right to use kids as cash cows. In the meantime, those that wanted to learn, whose right is to an education, fall behind. This happened to my sister in fifth grade. She had a teacher who barely spoke English, was intoxicated in class, and had no discipline in her room. My sister was very high strung and easily upset by fights, constant noise, and bullying. She had to remain behind in the U.S. with grandma for summer school while everyone else spent the summer in Ireland.

I am a Filipino teaching in a university here and I met a lot of Filipino teachers employed to teach k-12 here in the US. It's amazing how much companies like these ask for payments, fees, which is a LOT of money. Filipinos taking advantage of Filipinos. The US is not like what the TV portray. Then, there is also WINTER!

These are facts you should be aware of because you can read about it, the government is involved. But you're probably not because like most sheep you stay on your own lot. I have worked in many school districts and trust me there are tons of white schools with disrespectful white kids who do drugs an fail classes, fight, spread sexually transmitted diseases to damn near the entire population. Among other things I could tell you, but this is not reported. An you are correct there are white an black schools were the kids 90% have grades well enough to attend ivy league schools. My wife is a Filipina and a Pre K teacher she is so passionate with her job and loves this little children she’s been a teacher for 30 years now and always teaches good discipline and good manners to her students. I believed that charity and discipline always starts at home and it’s the role of every parents it’s the law that gives so much power to this young students that make them getaway with abusing teachers and parents there should be fairness on this. I wish all the luck in all this foreign Filipina teachers they are here to help and educate young generation Americans and they should be respected and loved and welcome or the youth of this nation will be a bunch of bastard growing up with no class and uneducated.

Didn't have to watch the video. I'm a former public school teacher with many years under my belt. I left because I couldn't do it anymore. People don't want to continue teaching because our culture is awful. People aren't parenting, teachers aren't allowed to hold students accountable, and I watched the public schools get gradually worse every year. They also don't pay well. It isn't worth it. I moved on, and so have countless other teachers. We all know what's up. The outsourced people won't last long either. The job now needs hazard pay. It's all down to a lack of parenting and accountability.

In Europe, I think it is somewhere in between. You don't really worship your teachers and you can absolutely tell them if you think they are wrong, but it is still second most respectable job right after doctors according to public studies and generally students dont dare to disrespect them. Also most parents side with teachers when there is an argument although there are exceptions of course.

Sometimes when Filipinos go “Oi kamusta ka na?” They’re not really concern about your well being, they just want to hear gossip lol

Dropping 2020 in every video bro I’m from Thailand but in my class there’s only like 15 people and there’s a crap ton of space.

Fifteen years ago an American company tried to do the same thing in the Philippines. I was supposed to get certified to teach high school biology and they made presentations of high wages followed by images of houses in white picket fences with families in suburban communities. The perfect American dream that's constantly sold to third world countries. Then I heard stories of how sometimes students in public schools attack their teachers and make threats. Then came news of teachers protesting. Something didn't seem right. So I backed out and decided to work in other countries in a different career.

I hope they can deal with the Bad American kids. Filipinos are very nice people.

They further take out a big chunk of the 50k payment that is made to each teacher. I bet half of the money is pocketed by this lady. Same thing happens with Indians who are hired to work in the IT field on H1B visas. Outsourcing makes these middle men the most money.

@@AndyShrestha I agree. I work as a IT contractor too with no benefits. It's getting harder to get a full time jobs in IT. Most just hire for a project as a contractor and if there are budget cuts we are the first one to be shown the door.

Its ironic to see this, because the American missionaries introduced the public education system to the Philippines when we were an American colony back in the day. Now, Filipino teachers are filling the gap. And that lady who owns the company? She learned to outsmart the US tax system by setting up the business in Delaware. I also saw the other documentary about the American teachers leaving the US and teaching in Asian countries that pay better salaries.

She did not really outsmart the tax system, it's built that way on purpose, I wish it were properly addressed as the Delaware tax haven is part of the reason these teachers are needed. The tax base for communities is shifted out of state, which shrinks the pool of money, which shrinks what the cities can do, which in turn they pick schooling as something they can siphon funds from.

@teachmehowtodoge I wanted to be a teacher, 4 years ago. The job is underappreciated, underpaid and have high expectations of them with minimum resources. Then you have shit parents that think that their children are god's angels. Change the education standard and cirrculum, bring up the pay and you'll see a jump in interest again. Right now, our education system only caters to a mind that is just able to perform basic tasks and nothing more, it hurts on creativity and growth. then you have teachers who go above and beyond for their students by going out of their own pockets to provide for their students/lessons, which up until recently Trump limited the amount that teachers could write off for expenses like that. The country is moving to privatize everything from Security (Prisons/Police/Army) to Education. This is one of the few countries to capitalize on other people's misfortune and imprisonment and would rather keep people down than rehabilitate like we see in more progressive societies. I remember reading somewhere that the country pays more on upkeeping prisons than investing on its educational sector.

Being a teacher in the US is not worth the headache. This will be the future in our school systems. Outsourcing from overseas.

I first thought she was charging way too much for bringing new Filipino teacher over, but since that fee covers travel and she works on booking the apartment so that it's affordable and she teaches how to fit into American society, it's not bad at all. Many other people or companies would bring them in unprepared with no help and just pocket all the money.

noir for nursing it’s not outsourcing. Nursing jobs are actually in shortage and a lot of the sections of healthcare where people don’t want to work are taken by immigrant nurses

Check what the Philippines is like right now. It probably won't scare them much.

Filipino will endure almost anything for the sake of their family, the culture adaptation of teaching very nasty students (as some comments say) will not be pretty, but this teachers will endure it.

@@xsystem1 not all. Kids here just don't value education. Inner city kids aren't a joy to teach. I've always admired the persistence of pinoy kids who want to learn. I've seen kids cross rivers then walk in the rain just to get to school. I'd never see that here. And yes, racism is alive and thriving here. Racists and bigots are more bold now that Trump is president. It'll never go away. Way too many hateful people here.

That is very true I'm American I'm married to a Filipino so familiar with the culture. Me my wife and kids went in visit the Philippines and IAI met my Extended Family in the Philippines. I didn't want come back to America I wanted to stay in the Philippines I love it out there. One of the things I like about the Filipino people their Families are very important to them Including their extended family. I love my wife some family. If there was a way I would the back There I have a Pynchon I'm retired and very seen a be getting my soc security . The other thing I like about the Philippines when they Shall we speak for the old is someone that's old ask for help even if they don't know I'm they help. And there also are taught to show respect to others here in America that doesn't happen.

When I taught in Baltimore City we had a lot of teachers from the Philippines and Jamaica. They were fine teachers and colleagues.

If people don’t like this situation, then home school your own kids.

Public school teachers are being outsourced because most school districts require a master's degree and underpay their teachers. According to a study by the Economic Policy Institute, all across the country, teachers pay a financial penalty to serve the public mission of educating our kids instead of entering more lucrative professions. In my state that penalty is 16 cents to every dollar. When benchmarked with median household income, teachers in my state make the 9th lowest salary in the nation. Combined with the fact that we have the lowest teacher working conditions in the country, and that budgets are still being cut left and right, class sizes increasing, 30+ teaching positions being eliminated, it's no wonder that they're outsourcing these jobs to the lowest bidder. When the most important in-school factor in a child's education is the quality of teaching they receive, why would you put a larger focus on money than on the future of your country?

@@curiosity3365 I'm certainly not contesting the fact that the actions of our ancestors and the continuous unacknowledgement of our privilege previously and continues to harm POC, especially ADOS. However, even though POC may be justified in wishing an eye for an eye on us, I don't think that way forward is sustainable for anyone. I don't even think reparations will heal the hurt that our ancestors have started, and so many of us still reinforce, whether consciously or subconsciously. What we need is real, deep healing - the kind of healing that mends bones broken generations and generations ago. That can only happen once our society is educated, and can come together as one. That can only happen once our teachers get paid a fair, livable wage.

Julia Morris That is an excellent point. Although teachers may get temporarily certified with Bachelor’s, I think all states require Master’s degrees for permanent/advanced certification these days-and the low salary, the labor-intensive nature of the job, poor resources, abysmal future prospect, etc. don’t justify the level of investment required toward certification in many cases. Instead of fixing the problems locally, they’d rather simply go overseas to get “cheaper labor” that is willing to work under inferior conditions, merely because things seem better than their home countries. These teachers are sent home after 5 years (unless they marry a local and get the green card), so continuity is definitely not a concern here at all.

I was 15 when my family moved from the Philippines to states. I was very shocked at how teachers were treated from the students to management. My aunt teaches in Brooklyn and pretty much rules with an iron fist. She said before she would cry with the burden of returning to work the next day. She’s learned since and is providing guidance to those who are new in the field.

I've worked in Saudi Arabia and I've been to the USA for vacations at my sister's house with her American husband. Truth be told I felt a lot safer in Saudi Arabia than in the USA. Heck I feel so much safer now in my own country Philippines. I understand my kababayans only want greener pasture but being a public school teacher in the USA is like being forced to survive in the wild full of dangerous creatures that can kill you.

You got that right. If Apple won't sell a brand new iPhone for $10.00, that doesn't mean there's a shortage of iPhones. Likewise, if a school district can't hire teachers to work for below cost wages, that doesn't mean there's a shortage of teachers either. By the way, I wonder how the CEOs of all these big corporations would like it if their jobs were outsourced to immigrants on H1-B visas? I'm sure there are 1000s of immigrants who would take a CEO position at a big corporation for only 10% of the current CEO's salary. If these overpaid CEOs were booted out and replaced with immigrant managers, that would save billions in salaries and cushy benefits. The CEO of Boeing got a $20 Million golden parachute after the company fell in the toilet because of the 737 Max debacle. But is Boeing going to bring in cheap migrant labor to replace the company's incompetent management? Outsourcing is just for the Average Joe worker, but I don't think the fat cats at the top would go for that.

Sometimes I look at all the prejudice and ignorance spewed from some people’s mouth’s and it makes me embarrassed to know that this is what the world sees of Americans, such a shame.

The biggest problem with outsourcing teachers is that these teachers are usually terrible at managing American students and seem afraid of them, or afraid to discipline them. I took a teaching job in Abu Dhabi in 2010. I was shocked at how the children acted (mean, disrespectful, poor social skills (according to western culture). It took me 5-6 months to get my class under control. I am tough so for me, it was a challenge but I was able to do it and stayed there for over 6 years. I loved working with those kiddos and have fond memories of my life there. It also helped that I adapted their cultural dress(wore an Abaya and Shayla) and never talked about my own religious beliefs or theirs.

I live in S. Cali & when Filipinos come to the U.S. they eventually start becoming Americanized with the plan of bringing more family here. I worked with them. Once they retire, they go back to the Philippines. The money paid to them should be paid to US citizen because most foreigners send their money back home not back into the U.S. economy the way US citizens put their money back into the economy.

Donna B. I don't hear anyone telling you how to spend your money. If you buy anything that was made outside the US, you too are adding to their economy. I think that it is also important to mention that the global economy is not a zero sum game.

the pay is why they are bringing teachers from Philippines, they earn less then 400 dollars a month as teacher over there, so any teaching job for them is high pay, don't be mad at filipino's they are just taking the opportunity, be mad at your local state or gov for under value of education. 750 billion for military , and a not so healthy 59 billion for education ( that's it )

Also factor in the mega corporation ( Intel, Microsoft, Raytheon, Boeing, Honeywell etc) that do business with the military. Education is important, no doubt. Filipinos are some of the nicest people you'll meet. Hard workers, polite, community and family orientated. Where work in Australia there are many Filipinos- I prefer working with them than many of the local Aussies. But there's a serious issue when hiring foreign workers to avoid addressing on going issues with local workers - not just in teaching, or in America.

Most Filipinos live in dire poverty so they're willing to do the jobs Americans do not want no matter how underpaid and overworked they become.

You have NO idea what this job entails, what's asked of us, what we do for our kids, how much of our OWN money we spend on our kids. Once you've been teaching, THEN you can talk.

Everyone complains that they are taking jobs and making pay lower. But the school districts in rural America can’t find Americans willing to work in the middle of nowhere rural America. Where are these American willing to live and work in Montana, North Dakota, etc? When the oil boom was at peak in North Dakota the majority of oil workers were from Canada for jobs that paid six figures. Why? Because Americans would work one winter and quit because it was too cold for them so the companies hired Canadians instead. The same is happening for these teaching jobs because it’s not near the major cities and in the middle of nowhere. Anyone complaining that jobs are being taken is free to apply and move to Montana and see how they like the -40F winters while having nothing around you.

@@toady7741 Pretty much everywhere in the US have internet access, the reason why people aren't looking for jobs in rural area is that commuting is difficult and there are fewer job opportunity there, and those that existed doesn't pay as well as more developed areas. Commuting factor is the most overlooked one, many people think car is a financial liability, and would prefers places where they can walk or take a bus/subway to work and buy groceries.

I am far from being the only teacher who moved thousands of miles to the middle of nowhere, in order to teach. I am far from being the only one who can tell you that you are embarrassingly wrong, and are making a mockery out of this entire ordeal. The teachers don't take those jobs NOT because of lack convenience or comfort; they refuse to take them because the conditions under which they are forced to work _prevent them from teaching_ . They are given a sub poverty-wage, no materials, no support, while regulations strangle their ability to discipline unruly behavior. Meanwhile, exorbitant paperwork and legal fears take away every bit of their preparation time, dumping it into a constant waterfall of unnecessary meetings and documentation demands. Add the constant pressure to revolve everything around standardized tests, and the teachers quickly realized that the one thing that they were told they were hired to do was the one thing they would never be able to concentrate upon: TEACHING. What experience, history, or insight grants you the boldness to make this claim about the teaching profession?

@@lotuskoko -- I see comments like this all the time, proclaiming the greatness of Filipino talent in education, nursing, or some other area. And then seconds later, I hear cries for Americans to avoid stereotyping Filipinos, demanding that everyone treat them all as individuals. to say that Filipinos are simply good at education in nursing, implying that they are simply better than Americans are at those same jobs, is foolish, insulting, misleading, destructive, and arrogant.

My mom was an international school teacher in Okinawa, at the school that my pa and I attended. She was a product of Philippine Normal University, established by Thomasites, a group of 600 American teachers who arrived in Philippines aboard the USS Thomas. US Soldiers were the first teachers at public schools established by the Americans. They were the teachers of my great grandfathers, who eventually became teachers.

Well, considering how abusive students are allowed to be towards teachers thanks to shitty administrative practitioners and "protect the children" legislations, no wonder :O. A teacher can't break up a fight. A teacher can't defend themselves from a student that is literally assaulting them. A teacher can get fired for using a threatening tone. A teacher can get sacked because they have students who refuse to learn and parents who only view school as a daycare. A teacher may be expected to find classroom supplies out of pocket. NO WONDER WE NEED TO OUTSOURCE. Nobody wants to be abused for a living. Nobody.

@@tofu_golem that is definitely a part of it and hasn't changed. Most of the people I knew who went in to teaching wanted to make a positive influence in kids lives... And the kids turned out to be a whole lot more messed up than they thought and were resistant to help. I'm in Chicago and one of my friends just quit his job as a teacher.

Your education system has multiple choices and homework grading . These teachers aren't the problem , the Americans are their own biggest enemy but as always , it's someone else's fault .

I know it might be unusual to have a teacher from another country, but if they are good they should be part of the mix. Students benefit from seeing different sorts of teachers. I'm no lefty, but diverse teaching is helpful.

This is frustrating as my mother is a public school teacher in California who is struggling to find a job.

The problem is they’ll take a lower wage and since American teachers are already paid so low and will protest they won’t take them.

I’m a Filipino High-Schooler living in the Philippines. My cousins are American citizens, and I’ve seen how they act in school. The typical “I hate school” kind of kids. They don’t get along with teachers very well. In the Philippines, students love it when teachers essentially become one with the students. And that’s the case with most schools here, regardless if public of private. You can see here teachers laughing and talking with their students, and the students remain respectful. Even if pay is tough. We have a term here that when a class or section is very fun or always having unforgettable moments, we call it “solid.” And the teachers make it “solid.” I promise you, here, you’ll have the best high school life. Full of fun friends, fun classes, fun teachers and activities. Will make you change your mind about moving to different countries. Also, 0:00 is not Manila. It’s Pasig City.

I'm a filipino-american from Los Angeles educated in this horrible school system. Students today do not respect teachers because of the failure of the parents. There are too many divorced single mothers trying to raise kids with no father in the home. And if there is a father and mother in home then they are incompetent. This is the core reason why students are out of control.

I think at the very least, teachers should be treated with due respect. Not just acknowledged or appreciated by the community. They should be afforded the same level of trust and respect as doctors, pilots and lawyers. If that isn't addressed, nothing ever will be.

Varoon Exactly, there was recently a study conducted by a university that showed that Indians were over represented as the Deans of Unis and colleges by a factor of 450. Also, proportionately, there are more Indian researchers and professors than any other single origin community in the US.

Although I have a lot of respect for someone who picks up a moves away from everything they know to support their family, this is not right. We need to address the damage caused outsourcing and not allow civil service to ever be out sourced

The fact that it is so expensive to go to college in the US, shouldn't be a thing, because it screws up so many people that are bright minded but don't have the money to pay or don't want a huge debt after graduating. All those private college schools need to be cut down.

To be fair they are filling jobs that are vacant so it's not as if american teachers are getting fired and replaced by these teachers. Yes I know that raising salary will attract more people but also reducing the cost of college will help.

American southern kids are pretty shitty, too. I'm in Alabama and it's a damn shame how ignorant and uneducated a lot of them are.

That is awesome 👌. Everyone deserves a chance. It is fantastic what this lady is doing.

This is frustrating and good at the same time. I am an American who is also Filipino (born and raised in the US). I am a school teacher but left the US because of frustrations with the American school system. I tried going to the more US rural schools, but schools were more willing to hire overseas Filipinos or someone more local. Now I am overseas working in the school systems in China. But it has given my Filipino countrymen an opportunity to make money. A 35,000 USD salary is low for an American but a good salary for a Filipino. Filipinos in China are also filling roles, but the money isn't as good as the USA.

Teachers are so underpaid, I know because I was one. Putting in 80 hours a bi-week to take care of kids & prepare them for the world to only get underpaid ? But I do love teaching so it is conflicting.

Danny yes, sometimes It would be a 45 hour work week & it was an all year round school so I only got 2 weeks off in the summer & if I chose not to work summer I just wouldn’t get paid & honestly it was very stressful but the kids loved me so it was easy to take a breather & get on with the week.

3 of my highschool math teacher consecutively were Filipinos. I thought it was weird and they even knew eachother. Now I know why. Good for them.

Public schools in the US are funded locally (unlike in other countries), and thus pay can vary greatly by jurisdiction: blogs.edweek.org/teachers/teaching_now/2019/04/which_states_have_the_highest_and_lowest_teacher_salaries.html There are many reasons why there is a teacher shortage in the US. Pay is but one reason.

@R B: I remember - attending a reunion in college in Asia after graduating over 50 years. In most Asian culture, once a teacher is always a teacher and is respected. At our reunion, former students of ages from 50-70 old went down on their knees kowtowing their former instructors, lecturers and professors.
