America's New AC-130J Ghostrider Gunship is a Beast

Ғылым және технология

The AC-130J Ghostrider's primary missions are close air support, air interdiction and armed reconnaissance. Close air support missions include troops in contact, convoy escort and point air defense. Air interdiction missions are conducted against pre-planned targets or targets of opportunity and include strike coordination and reconnaissance and overwatch mission sets.
The AC-130J provides ground forces an expeditionary, direct-fire platform that is persistent, ideally suited for urban operations, and delivers precision low-yield munitions against ground targets.

As someone who worked on the bofors cannon on the U model, the 30mm is a hell lot accurate. Also finding parts for the bofors was a huge issue. I was able to snag a flash hider for one before they took them out of service.

  • 2 жыл бұрын

I assume you're American, as a Swede I was more surprised to even see the Bofors 40mm on the AC-130J today! First of all those paint jobs on these planes are kick-ass, and I flew on a C-130 for enlistment check-up, don't know what you call it in America but hopefully you understand. So I love those big ass planes! Also find it weird you (americans) have to scour the world for spare parts, Sweden/Bofors should just do as back in wwii and let US companies produce the cannon once again. Otherwise it would be so much easier if diplomacy could be done over youtube comments between nations hehe, me as a Swede could sign up on offering to produce more Bofors 40mm for you Americans, if you as an American can make sure we/Sweden could get some discount and buy a bunch of AC-130J.

I'm not working in the aerospace sector, but I am an engineer, and as an engineer, I love designs like the AC-130's. Those are designs that may be not be flashy and may not have the latest and greatest tech. But they are reliable, stable, sturdy, flexible, reusable, and so successful that they are used for decades even though their overall tech may be outdated. Similarly, I prefer cars that may not be a looker, but are reliable, easy to maintain, handle adverse weather conditions, and just keep on working and working. Or, when we look at old cellphones, the counterpart would be the indestructible Nokia 3310.

all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God the rightousness of God is available through faith in Jesus Christ. there is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. in Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgivness of sins according to the riches of His grace. If then you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God and the God of peace will be with you. Thanks be to God

The AC-130U will always be my favorite with the 25mm GAU-12/U, 40MM Bofors, and the 105MM Howitzer. While they might be more effective, the "J" models don't look nearly as menacing. They look less like a "Gunship" and more like a recon platform, which is part of their mission now so it makes sense.

I don’t want to be on the receiving end of those planes’ armaments. One plane can shred a mansion. Two would wipe the mansion and the surrounding area clean. But with the new guns, they can destroy a car, truck, train, tanks and other armored vehicles with surgical precision. I say keep them all and update the technology and the armaments. Like Maximus said in Gladiator, “At my signal, unleash hell.”
