Probably missed a 0, or it's just the location, that's not that profitable. 4.8 sounds reaaaaaaaaly less for this amazing house! If the price is real and up to date, i'd definitely be interested :)

How do you title this "America's Largest Mega Mansions!" and not include the Biltmore Estate, which is more than double the size of anything on this list, and sits on 125,000 acres? These are distant runners up. Likewise, Hurst Castle is bigger than anything listed here.

I dont know where my parents went wrong, but the only structure I liked in this entire visit was the guest house at the cheapskate's &4.8M mansion. Everything else looks like the ghost of Jay Gatsby and his Flapper tarts would haunt the place by night and those massive houses would be little more than a museum / antiques display centre by day. Say what you will about Manhattan penthouses, at least these tycoons would be close to their boardrooms and their mistresses.

These are really nice however, you left out the most important private residence of all... Biltmore Estate. I don't believe these are as large nor worth as much as Biltmore Estate in Asheville North Carolina. Biltmore constructed between 1888 & completed in 1895 with its art & museum furnishings is in the Billion's of dollars range. Many furnishings and art pieces are priceless beyond dollar value. It has 175,000 sq. ft. over 4 acres of floor space. William Morris Hunt was the Architect (creator of New York & Rhode Islands famous Gilded Age Mansions) and Frederick Law Olmsted was the Landscape Architect (creator of the New York Central Park) together designed Biltmore Estate under the careful eye of owner George Washington Vanderbilt heir of the Vanderbilt Railroad fortune. The estate was built on 125,000 acres.
Keeping this address and moving in here today.... first two digits numbers.
I always thought the largest privately owned home in the USA was the Biltmore in Asheville, North Carolina. It's 179,000 square feet.
