@@LoneWolf20213 That's not how it works. Yeah demigods are stronger faster and more durable than normal humans. Luckily Achilles was one of the strongest Greek demigods of all time. But also being a demigod doesn't give them any better of a chance against him. The styx enchantment makes him nearly invincible. Anyone could get lucky and hit him in the heel. But it's un likely that a trained warrior would even aim there.

Back when Wonder Woman got her first big reboot in the 80's (post Crisis on Infinite Earths, I believe), the amazons of Themyscira were born from the souls of women who died at the hands of men. This was done so that the remaining few Greek gods could retain some power by being worshiped by a select few. Not sure for how many years this remained the case until another reboot of them in the New 52 made them closer to actual amazons in the sense that they'd reproduce by sleeping with men...and then killing them afterward. They'd also trade away the male infants to Hephaestus in exchange for armor and weapons. Those men born from amazons worked in the god's foundries, as well. Brian Azzarello's run on New 52 Wonder Woman is like a parody of ancient Greek tales, for better or worse.

For that she started to wear armor and helmet at all times. When Achilles defeated her, the cursed was not lifted and when the hero took the helmet away, he fell victim of the curse. He then proceeded to engage in an act of Necrophilia.

That’s actually a really terrifying curse. Especially for a woman. It effectively translates to “every man on earth will now instantly try to rape you”. Men would probably end up killing each other to eliminate competition. What absolute chaos that would cause. Would be really interesting if used as a strategy though. She could break the ranks of an entire army just by taking off the helmet. This should be a movie.

I had a theory that the Amazons may have been an artistic interpretation of what Sparta would have become if the Spartan men were killed off. There are three reasons why Spartan women fit the description of the Amazons quite well. First, though they never formally served in the Spartan Army, (as far as we know) Spartan women were trained to fight. The reason for this was that if the Spartan Army were ever destroyed, they would serve as the last line of defense. Second, in addition to learning how to fight, they often engaged in many forms of athletics such as gymnastics as part of their education. This made them physically fit which in turn made them by ancient standards (and possibly even modern standards) drop dead gorgeous. Sparta has actually been refereed to as "The Land of Beautiful Women." Third, like the rest of Spartan society, they were conditioned from infancy to believe that all non-Spartans were little better than animals. For this reason, if the Spartan men were killed off, Sparta would have become a nation ruled by beautiful warrior women who sincerely believed that the only men in the world who were worth anything were all dead.

Definitely worth revisiting the Amazon Lily arc just to find the horses then. I'm wondering if anyone can clarify this. The searing off the breast thing apparently was apparently not accepted at the time. From what I heard, the name for the Amazons was not actually Greek in origin, but sounded similar to "without breasts" in their language. No depiction of the Amazons in artwork show them with only one breast, even thought their weapons and armor changed with the times. It could just be someone's explanation for the name, or it could be meant as an insult, as they would not have been considered "real women" because they acted like men in the Greek mindset.

@@snipeshot1401 you are right i think. the iliad actually covers the last years of the war. all the info about what happened before was added from other texts and bundled by modern historians for context. the iliads other name is "the anger of achilles" and starts with agamemnon and achilles picking their fight and throwing in some bits of info about who each of the characters is and what he has been doing. it is made plain that they have all been there for some time but it is easy to get it wrong. most of us have read only the modern texts.

However, women has long been seen as potential and strong warriors in early times. Even in Rome, they found that one of the most decorated gladiators to have been dug up, was female. Presenting the fact that thou male and female do differ in size and muscle build, women can and will excel at the battlefield. They adapt like any other brave human being would in a dangerous situation. I have a great respect for the other part of the human species. Only a fool would have any other thought after seeing a woman giving birth to 6 kids ... But not only because of that, of course :)

Would love to get in touch and see your opinions on how to go about this because as much as I love H.P's work, I'm not quite as knowledgeable as you seem to be. I like it when you make those little random tangents in your videos. They make the videos feel real and I love it how you show all the angles. I like what you did with Medusa and how you showed that Athena could either be the hero or the villain of the story. Still waiting for that Zeus video I hope your neighbors turned down the noise enough for you to do your videos in peace. Either way very fascinating stuff and I hope you stay safe.

Its fascinating to me that as a history buff and a huge fan of mythology that the two may have combined. The theory goes that horses of the day were smaller and weaker and therefore couldn't hold fully grown men and their weapons etc, hence why the amazons are the first real Calvary force, as women especially back then would've been significantly lighter than any man, women are also theorized to have at least been apart of the Scythian fighting forces, so it seems at least plausible that there was all female units of cavalry being used around the greek world, perhaps even as mercenaries or their own semi-nomadic tribes, hence how they become enshrined in myth. Pretty incredible when you think about it, even more so if you put yourself in the shoes of a greek around the time period.
