im the same way! ive been a mechanic for 3 years and i wasted alot of money on snap on,and now i just buy whatever feels right in my hand once you get the experience you know how something is supposed to feel in your hand.
I watch a ton of tool review videos on YT and this may be the best friggin video I’ve seen so far. Your collection and opinions mirror my own. Glad I found your channel.
Give Tekton a call to warranty your ratchet and they will warranty it out. Their warranty is easy and top notch.

I bought the 3/8 Tekton ratchet after I saw this.
I was 57 years old before I bought a brand new toolbox. I purchased used for years a few different brands to get me thru my career until I bought my new box. This one I have is one that I had owned previously and I was satisfied with the build quality. I believe it will take me well into retirement and it's in my will to go to my grandson. But its a brand my Dad had for years...Gray.
I love my Tekton tools. Most of my tools are tekton even though I still have some snap on and Matco, Tekton was the best bang for my buck when I started my carrier and still have not had anything bad to say about them. I also like how they don’t skip sizes In their tool sets.
Great videos man!! I’ll be starting a CAT sponsored program at a local community college in January and your videos are a big help as to what all I’ll need to get into this industry. I know the basics for the most part but it’s the specialty stuff or even tool sizing that you sometimes don’t think of. I’m coming from department of defense aviation maintenance to diesel mechanics.
I love the Tekton stuff been using it for years working on our equipment. I just ordered the 24" 1/2 ratchet and those wire strippers off ur links. I see a lot of people that gotta have the name brand expensive tools and they actually have a less diverse set of tools limiting there capacity to fix there machines in the field.
I subbed after watching this video- You know how to use your tools properly and that is why they last.Thank you for the great video!
Thanks for doing this video! Your input is well appreciated! Another great video!
Preach brother! Go ahead and send Tekton a picture of that ratchet and they will send you another one same day. Just a two step process on their website.
Thanks for the video! 100% agree on "not paying for Snap On sockets" Also Grey Pneumatics are really good and affordable sockets. I have been using them for 5 years now.
I feel your pain brother! I fractured my tail bone over 20 years ago and it still hurts sometimes! Believe it or not, another good place to find quality tools is at flea markets/garage sales. Many times you find high quality, USA made tools for next to nothing. Sure, they'll be used and might not be shiny but, by God they can still get the job done! One tool (set) that I DEFINITELY recommend is the Lisle master disconnect set. Even though most of it is plastic, it's USA made and less than $40 on Amazon.
i old wise mechanic said-the best tool is the one that gets the job done
Man I’ve put sunnex wrenches through some SHIT, love them! Good content
Remember... There is No Substitute "for Experience." Thanks for sharing yours... Thumbs Up !!
Another great socket set are by ATD. I have their 1/2 impact set. Been using it for almost 10 years. My 15mm has pulled well over a hundred sets of cab bolts on ford superduty. Countless sets of head bolts.
I believe in the happy medium mindset for tools. Tools with less moving parts are totally fine to buy cheap in many cases. More complex or precision tools it is best to get higher end in most cases. There are definitely exceptions though. For example, the HF Chicago Electric dual action polisher that HF sells for $45-$70 (depending on coupons) is actually a great DA polisher with more power than many of the brand name options that cost more than double! Cool video! Thanks!

there are a lot of hand tools that i would never buy cheap again, the main one is screwdrivers
I bought 2 of those vice grips off Amazon about 2 minutes after I seen the last video irwon calls them parrot jaw. They are there. I like tekton these days. They have turned around completely and are putting out some very nice tools
I have been pretty happy with what tekton I have bought over time. I do prefer the craftsman offset ratchet wrenches vs the flat or flex head tekton though.
Great video, Tekton has a double angle wrench set made the USA for a great price too.
Share an amazon wish list with all those links. It will label them and make them easily searchable. Great vid dude!
I'm a big fan of tekton. I have their complete 3/8 and 1/4 socket sets.
I buy Tekton off their website. Super fast shipping and 10% less than Amazon.
All the long thin 3/8 ratchets flex like that. I've got a snap-on and a Matco in the shop. Same result.
I've got an old pair of those "parrot head" vise grips. I think they are designed to get a bite on rounded off bolt heads.
Great content I really would like to try the olsa tools out keep us posted on them
I’ve got got 13 Mayhew prybars including the dominators, rolling heads, line ups and others and they’re great, I use the hell out of them daily, and I’ve got dominator picks, mini picks and o-ring spoons, they have all been great
Great video, thanks for the honest reviews
Feel better brother. Cool video, I agree with just about everything you said.
Loving your channel brotha, like to see a CAT tech and his side of stuff he uses day to day I’ve been thinking of making a video on my cart and daily stuff I use as a John Deere Ag tech, but anyways subbed 👍🏻

You would see a bunch of Snap On tools with CAT logos on them lol. Some actually will still have the Snap On logos still on them along with the CAT ones. They get the majority of their hand tools from Snap On an so they just give the hands those for replacements when they break them or atleast our CAT dealer where I live here does anyhow but yea I wouldnt mind seeing that myself. Need more heavy equipment mechanic toolbox tours instead of auto techs all the time lmao. But I'll watch whatever I can always good to see what other people have or come up with an their reviews of tools after use rather than reviews of things that were pulled out of a box and never put to the test. But I agree with this guy I got Harbor Freight, Sunex, GP, Astro Pneumatic, Gearwrench, William's, Proto, BlackHawk, Snap On, Husky you name it. Havent broke a socket from any of them but I use impacts 95% of the time. And he is spot on with the universal/wobble sockets if you work on hydraulics those are your best friend along with angle wrenches lol
Totally agree on the Tekton wrenches. I did a review on my channel on the metric set and it saved my butt because Tekton had a 25mm that I needed for a Case skid steer hydraulic lines and my MAC Tools Precision Torque wrenches did not. Even showed how the tolerance was tighter on the TEKTON than the GearWrench wrenches that I have. Take care!
Grey pneumatic also has a 3/8 master impact set for $300 that's an absolute great deal for an entry tech. Shallow, deep, and swivel impact sockets metric and standard. My snapon sockets were $200 for just shallow metric
I have the sunex master 3/8 set 7-22 in deep, shallow and wobble for $125. I just broke the first wobble after 3 years. I emailed them, they asked for a picture and sent a new one in less than a week
Much needed advice thanks
I started buying Tekton a couple of years ago. I own sockets ratchets wrenches screwdrivers pry bars cold chisels and pliers. I am totally satisfied with all of them. The website is without a doubt the most useful and user friendly of all tool websites. The customer SERVICE is old fashioned SERVICE
I personally prefer the sunex impact sockets over tekton for no reason other than they have the size stamped on the side
@I_Died_2_Weeks_Ago
Жыл бұрын
They also are strictly Cr-Mo and Tekton are not
I actually bought all the sunex impact master sets, no complaints. Absolutely nothing wrong with tekton though, I plan on buying their offset wrenches soon.
I like your channel. Keep it up
Thanks for the great video and preaching that you don’t NEED Snap-on, MAC, etc.
Check out the Lang coolant hose pinch off pliers, lots of company’s rebrand them and I love mine

Must of made u cry waiting so long for the ratchets to first show up.
Amazon has a Sreelman 9pc magnetic extension set and they come 1/4” 3/8” and 1/2”
I'm a big preacher of craftsman (old Sears) mastercraft (canadian tire) because they are life time warranty. And haft cost of snap on. Husky are pretty good. I'm also cheap tool and good tool. It good to have option depending on the job and use of the tool.
With tools i always say buy what you prefer nothing's better than a tool you enjoy using whether its snap on mac or princess auto
I have them sockets I used them daily best thing I ever got and that was 6 years ago never had one mess up and don’t think I ever will
Tekton's warranty is 1st rate. Lean on that ratchet they will replace it if it breaks.
Idk why but I laughed when you said today is goingnto be tools from Amazon all day long
TEKTON TOOLS are awesome. I don't usually comment BUT I need to say a couple things. Tekton has a forever warranty that just requires you upload a photo of the broken tool and they immediately drop a new one in the mail for you. Second, DON'T buy Tekton off of Amazon. Create an account on Tekton's website and order from there. The price is the same, the shipping is FREE and you get 10% back on every purchase towards your next purchase. Spend say 120.00, and 12.00 goes in to your Tekton account that can be used for any tool off of their website, straight and simple. Brandon, send a photo of that 1/2 drive ratchet when it finally breaks and they will send you a new one within hours. That's all I got. JH
yeah man i agree if you paying cash you dont need to go on a matco truck unless its for a ratchet or some drill bits.
Agree Tekton and Sunex are great. Gearwrench is pretty good too. You should check out Capri tools for sure. They are just as good if not better in some cases. All with lifetime warranty's as well. Email Tekton and they will send you a new one with no issues. I have Sunex and Capri tools impact wobble socket and both are top quality and priceless. Keep up with the good work man.
Brandon you are wise beyond your years. Not letting yourself get caught in the pay Snap-on by the week racket is a good move for you. Ya'll starting out today have more and better options then us who were starting in the '70s had. My boxes are a miss-match of brands. Along with tools I bought used. We had Snap-on, Mac & Cornwell trucks stop by weekly. Sears had Craftsman. We had tool peddlers stop in with different brands and the auto parts stores had good brands. I bought some of all of them if they were good and worked. Blackhawk, Bonney, Williams were all good tools and all American made. There were no Chinese, Pakistan or India etc. then. When you hear somebody pop off about how much better his $30,000 worth of Snap-on tools are just think he is probably trying to justify in his mind paying for them. While he is sitting by his box eating crackers for dinner in his "free Mac or Snap-on cap" the tool man gave him. Tell him you are going to have a Rib-eye. I see you work for Holt, where? I know a lot of people at the Longview store. Good luck to you son!
Just ordered the wire strippers. Thanks! Edit: BTW, IIRC you have Mac prybars. They're made by Mayhew. Same goes for Matco and Cornwell over 24". Many, many Mayhew tools are relabeled on the trucks. Look at Metco's picks as another example, or the punch/chisel sets on all the trucks other than SO. Same goes for Lang and Lisle. Compare what a Lang snap ring plier set costs next to an identical item on the truck. But I digress. I was trying to say that you do have experience with Mayhew prybars. Really like your channel and appreciate the honesty. Unfortunately, the latter is not as common in the tool community as one would prefer. Good luck.

Thanks for the advice and support!
Looks like a crimper style vice grips fir like copper fittings for wire ends
As a British retired auto electrician I agree with everything bar the wire strippers, that brand broke very quickly! I'm mobile and IMO you might pay 3-4 times for a Snap-On top box compared with UK equivalent to Harbour Freight but I've had a 58 series (NOT Bluepoint) for 20 years, kept in the back of car or van.
I agree I have a lot of Snap-on tools I'd regret buying just if Iose 1 I don't rebuy it today lol but have to say snap on makes the best wrenches an yes buy tool truck prybars...
Ive commented on your videos a lot but yea I definitely get the idea of not having to buy tool truck brands (and thats why im buying all sunex sockets and some other brands off amazon) but its so hard to resist when I get 50% from school, needless to say im getting some ratchets, roll cart and pry bars from snap on, already got a fat set of Wright wrenches, I love the thick ass beams on them and there made in the usa

Awesome video for DIYers. Thank you. Please cause recommend a good obd2 scanner?
Tekton angle wrenchs are the best out there 30 and 60 degree unlike many and MADE IN THE USA! Many like them better than the Snap on and at less than 20% of the cost.
The Power Probe butane soldering torch kit is $40 on Amazon.
Same here Bro their are people that are hardcore snap on and matco i use to buy from a matco guy but i think they dont want to make buisness as much if you pay cash i use to pay cash but he would go more and offer the guys that finance with him.
The tekton angle wrenchs have the same angels as the snappy ones, at a fraction of the cost. The Cat branded angle wrenchs are snap on made, and almost the same price as the tekton set.
I got some gearwrench rachets they seem pretty stout but i got a bijillion teckton sockets
Cornwell sales those irwin's they are for rounded bolt heads
When’s the next video coming out ?
The other thing for new guys is look at Craigslist theres lots of nice boxes snap on for 1k to 2k and will last lifetime

The 1/2" is also the newer 90 tooth. My 3/8 popped out the same but it still functions pretty much fine, it does skip teeth occasionally.
What holt shop you at?
I am having a really hard time deciding what impact sockets to go with, Im going to school and get a really great discount on snap on so I am thinking of getting a standard and metric set of those, but man these tekton sockets look great, one thing i want to now is how deep the collar is inside the socket, If you got a short bolt will it get lost in the socket or is that collar higher up
@TexasEmpire
3 жыл бұрын
So this is a great question. I’m opposite from everybody else. I wan no collar at all. I have shallow sockets for that reason. And if things get crazy I have extra shallow also. Iv been in situations where I need a long socket but I needed the bolt to go up into the socket instead of move my impact back so to space reasons.
So correct, I personally, don't waist money on massively overrated, over priced, and hyped up tool brands.

Just bought some snap on wrenches lol, it is too tempting, however I do buy a lot of cheap stuff too and Milwaukee, only have a few tool truck things and I got the wrenches on eBay so not too bad, but now that I think of it I could have had two bigger sets of icon wrenches for the price I paid and that is at like a 40% discount.
