How To Become A Mechanic Part One: Buying Tools (Heavy Equipment)
In this video we go through the exact steps to buying tools as a beginner mechanic and not go broke doing it!
We will visit multiple websites and look at different deals and variations of mechanic tools for beginners.

I am not a professional mechanic but just a farm kid fixing his own junk.. but I was replacing a set of old USA v series and g1 and some g2 series craftsman raised panel metric and sae combination wrench sets,, and I bought the tekton wrench sets from Amazon about two years ago and I got a deal on them with the wrench rails and the 4 pc tekton high impact comfort grip handle screwdriver set $115 and I am sure they are better than the other set of Chinese craftsman raised panel metric and sae combination wrench sets available at the time of my purchase and I also had the great neck USA sae wrenches and I had a Sears brand SAE complete set of wrenches, and the master mechanic sae and metric thick natural finish USA made combination wrench sets but none of them are complete anymore..so tekton it is. And then I bought their 3/8 complete socket set of sae and metric shallow and deep sockets very impressive.. my socket sets I'm referring to are chrome

I have a set of kobalt pro 90 ratchet wrenches sae and metric 20pc I like them better than the original design gearwrench ratchet wrenches sae and metric ace hardware specific exclusive set with the 3 drive size socket adapter set the SAE set comes with the wrench sets the metric does not.as far as what I use for a multi meter is keep in mind I replaced the two tone grey plastic sunpro actron digital multi meter and the black with the stick on label with silver lettering and no red on it at all Sears brand..I got a Astro ai m4kor multimeter and I think it is fairly decent for the $34 price honestly.

I have a Bauer 1/2 cordless impact wrench but a DeWalt single speed dcf887 1/4 inch impact driver and a older dwd 939 xrp 14.4 DeWalt 1/2 inch drive drill throws sparks and the battery is dying but wow it's truly a good drill I have a backup because I got it for $67 Bauer 1/2 inch drive drill/driver not bad I guess.. I have the gearwrench set of comfort grip handle screwdriver set new style handle and the sunex comfort grip handle screwdriver set both are from the Amazon website,, and in my opinion I don't have them but for a right angle drill and the medium barrel air hammer is the one I prefer I'd go with Ingersoll Rand for both,, and I have a question anyone tried the Ironton pliers and rack set honestly I think they are only a great deal for the racks.. cool I didn't know that the Mayhew punch and chisel sets existed I am going to upgrade to the ABN set,I currently have the industrial punch and chisel green Pittsburgh pro set.

Just got on at a CAT dealership, with minimal experience I’m a CDL driver of 4 years worked and did maintenance on both trucks it was for a small fleet owner had a farm so wrenched on equipment from time to time. But man I’m beyond excited for this new journey I don’t believe in debt either so this video is a gem, thank you.

And I am a channel lock brand pliers fan lol say what you will but I have always had great experience using them, but with the exception of I bought a set of crimper pliers from harbor freight just to try them out Doyle brand nice!! And I have the gearwrench set and the sunex comfort grip handle pick sets, and the other one orange pick set I got free with buying two Pittsburgh pro flex head ratchets, and I have a mobile socket set it's a husky brand h149mts mechanic tool set it's a good set tawian made and I'm sure no where near as good as the older USA husky set but I like it seems really decent.got it from a reseller on eBay for $88 it's normally a $145-$150 set, and I have a late 80's tool box and it has definitely lasted and I have had several people I know call it junk and hmm how should I word this atleast 45 percent of those people have tried to buy or trade me for the same Kennedy mechanic tool set 10 drawer top tool chest riser and the big door on the bottom of the front 3 large drawer rolling tool cabinet power coat orange.

Awesome video! Hopefully new techs will find this video and be re-assured that it doesn’t take owing your life an paychecks to snap-on and other big tool truck brands to be successful in this business…like you said in your video it’s not about spending top dollar on tools it’s about how well your knowledge and efficiency is used with the tools you have…I work with guys that have been in the shop for 30+ years that work out of craftsman toolboxes with craftsman/harbor freight tools and they get the same repairs done as guys with the Snap-On, Mac, Matco tools

Exactly I have used craftsman, harbor freight and master mechanic and great neck USA and tawian made tools for working on mostly 4x4 farm trucks some older some newer almost all of them were 3/4 ton my last two trucks being the exception a early 94 Chevy Silverado extended cab short bed Z71 tbi truck and my current vehicle is a 2000 dodge ram Laramie slt quad cab long bed 5.2 litre 318 magnum v8 46RE AT 1500 4x4 and honestly that 318 half ton 4x4 moves anything my momma's 96 Ford F-250 460 2wd super cab long bed will.. and I can work on either truck no problems usually..

For the people who feel the 1/2 inch drive safe and metric shallow and deep socket set is outrageous price try buying them separately as in the same brand deep sockets and the shallow sets and you will see the value..

  • @richardbates2367

And tekton also has individual socket sets with or without rails in 1/2 inch shallow and deep SAE and metric large sockets I believe they are just as good as some of older craftsman USA made sockets I still have..

I just ordered the gearwrench set last week because Amazon offered me a deal on them $45 and the finger ratchet becomes very handy when you are constantly turning small bolts and don't have any room for the impact type ratchets drivers or the cordless impact wrench series...
