I use other brands smart plugs and they work great. The nice thing about this Amazon plug is if use the ECHO device to control the plug; it a one step process to active the plug (all the other brand, takes two steps and their app). Looking forward to your next video.

I'd like to see a comparison of the major brands of these modules. I've been using Kasa for awhile and they also integrate well. The problem with using Alexa commands for everything is you have to remember the exact names of all the devices you want to control. This gets cumbersome after you have numerous modules installed in various locations. You need a cheat sheet or some way of remembering them all because Alexa only works with the exact name in the setup. I end up just using the module app for most things. It's just quicker and I have several old smartphones repurposed as remotes lying around the house.

Learned this the hard way tonight! I wish I’d come across your comment before setting up my echo dot/amazon smart plugs! It would have saved me the 45 minutes I wasted figuring this out!😂

Looks cool! If your internet goes down will the Smart Plug still operate?

I'm using Wyze products, they work great and also work with Alexa, Google Home, and Google Assistant.

Can they be plugged into a power strip where I could use multiple smart plugs for other devices as well as lights?

I love amazon smart plugs I use nothing else I have 15 in my house runs every light ceiling fans tv air fryer and others

Got to love having instantaneous turn on! Haha. Handy little device. Maybe even too handy! Now amazon will know when they can send a drone in for a quick home invasion. 🤣 thanks for another great review!

Oops, Alexa only but I'm a Google guy so no cigar on this product. Too bad. However there are lots of 4-packs of similar devices for less than one of these. They all work with both Alexa and Google Home, or so I read.

Why does it say it add voicecontrol on any outlet and manual say it let u connect equipment devices

Jason, you can control it from the Alexa app on your phone but it's much cooler if you have an Echo device. A few times each year Amazon has some incredible sales on these Smart Plugs and a companion Echo Dot so keep checking their site around any holiday and you might be surprised how low the prices can be on this gear.

Bought an Amazon smart plug the other day for my Amazon echo dot 5th gen. Still can't get it to work properly. Been working on it for two days. Just won't work. It'll pair to it and recognize it. But when I say "Alexa turn the light on/off", it only turns the PLUG on and off, not the light (WHICH IS PLUGGED INTO THE SMART PLUG) I got it to work only one time. But now, it just turns the PLUG on and off. Nothing else...it's unfortunate cause I was so excited to get it...Google search doesn't help. KZread doesn't help. Amazon support doesn't help.. ugh disappointed.

Leave the lamp switch on at all times or it won't work. But, if you have a smart lamp with touch control or any kind of electronic control, the module probably won't control it at all. Learned this when I tried controlling a simple floor heater that has a remote. It always powers up in the off state so I can't use smart modules with it. The device usually has to have a simple ON/OFF switch to be controlled by a "smart" controller.

As cheap as $1.00 ??? They are $25. Will you notify your subscribers if they drop in price like that?

"Less than a dollar..." Please invite me! They are $34.99 on Amazon Canada. Wait, that may be less than a dollar USD. :(

Peter, as I mentioned in the clip, they often have crazy sales on these (and other Amazon products) and I just got an email last month from Amazon offering these for $1 for a limited time. Keep an eye on these and I'll bet you'll see the price drop over the holidays. You also have the option of using the Wyze plugs, which do a great job and are less expensive. I reviewed them on my channel as well in case you want to check them out. Thanks for the post.

I am a big user or Alexa and accessories: 7 Echos, 3 Tecken outlets (one died when I tried to use it as an outdoor outlet), 15 smart bulbs, one Wyze camera and two momentary switches for my garage doors. And I have a Mavic Air which is how I found your great channel!

Peter, I thought you might be poking a little fun there. Wow, I thought I was a nerd, you have a ton of automation going on in your home and are using a lot of the same gear that I love. Those Wyze products are an amazing value and I'm working on a review of their new outdoor camera today so stay tuned for that one soon. Now get outside and start flying that Mavic Air!

David, your dry wit is much appreciated. In this short clip I not only provide an overview of the product and show you every step in how to set it up, but I also demo the plug with an Echo device. If you find this type of technology overview boring, pass on the Smart Plug and stick with a wall switch.
