Speaking as an overworked and underpaid employee of an Amazon fulfillment center: Here's what's happening - When we receive a lot of assorted LPs from a vendor, they all arrive in quantity in large boxes, which means once we've opened the box, now you have a large number of bare albums as you would see them on a store shelf, they are not individually packaged for surviving mailing/warehouse inventory. So it's left to a team to package each album and then also apply a label - all it takes is an assumption from whoever's labeling the now identical unmarked cardboard packages that they're processing a case quantity of one album to then apply the same label to all the LPs, presto, you now have one album on the website that magically becomes a pot luck item. It's a rare event since most of our LPs arrive as cases of one album from the respective record company, but it's interesting that everyone seemed to enjoy the error, Amazon should perhaps offer a grab bag/pot luck LP option..

I think your explanation makes a lot of sense. I was picturing a VERY religious employee who refused to touch the actual album, so they just grabbed whatever else was close by to fulfill the order.

There was a record label (Polyvinyl Records) which offered grab bags of records (or tapes or CDs) at a good discount. Mostly stuff they had trouble selling, I imagine, but I got some real gems from that deal.

preach man. after working as a picker for a few months, i'm never ordering shit for amazon again. i've seen too many delicate shits paired with heavy goods in the same bin. half the shit is usually chinese cheap made fast fashion anyways. the world is dying and 5 people in the world are making tons of money because of it.

If I ordered Danzig and got Overkill, I don't think I would even be mad

The long runout groove was my favorite track from that album.

Amazon stock screw-ups can be great - I ordered a six pack of very expensive Belgian beer, and got a six pack of a different very expensive Belgian beer to the one I asked for. Turns out Amazon don't ask you return food and drink, so when I informed them I got to keep the beer and they sent out a replacement. Replacement arrives, and it's the same wrong (but good) beer again. I contact them again, again they tell me to keep the beer and send another pack out. Third pack arrives, same wrong beer again! Contacted them a third time and they tell me to keep the beer, acknowledge there's a problem with the item in their system and refund the original payment! Over £100 of beer for free!!

You're so lucky to get that Overkill record for that price. I had to pay full price. As others have pointed out, it was rated as one of the best metal releases of last year. In some cases, some of these songs are long and splitting it amongst multiple lp's helps to give the best sonic quality, rather than trying to squeeze all that music onto a single lp.

About 30 years ago LPs which should have been double LPs were released as single LPs such as Garbage & Version 2.0. In the late 1990s Simply Vinyl rereleased those two records as double LPs & the differences were stark since the Simply Vinyl versions had a much better frequency response & being one of the early 180 gram records they had a better dynamic range though they did predate translucent records by about 25 years & translucent 180 gram LPs would have an increased dynamic range since those records are carbon free.

That’s why I don’t buy vinyl records on Amazon, I go to local record shops, not only I see the correct album I buy, but also it’s sometimes cheaper than Amazon, because prices of new vinyl records has went up significantly.

It would have been *hilarious* if you'd opened the James Brown sleeve and there'd been a copy of the Danzig record inside.

Overkill formed in 1980 out of New Jersey. Bobby "Blitz" Ellsworth out of Vernon.

I ordered a copy of Jeff Wayne’s War of the Worlds from ebay (the previous copy I ordered got smashed in the post). I asked the other seller if they could please not use that particular delivery company and explained why. They did as I asked but not only that they included a piece of ply wood and several random LPs. So not only did my LP not have holes in it I also had some free LPs.

I didn't know Overkill released their first record in 4 years. I'm definitely getting the CD now.

I ordered this Danzig records three times. Got a rock band I've never heard of that sounds like Nickelback, a country band I've never heard of, and the best of Great White. I didn't keep any of them. I wish I had gotten Overkill. I would have kept that one.

Overkill sounded good and that looked like a RSD release with the colored vinyl. Well done!

Having been at it for 3 decades at that point, Overkill had a rare second golden age in 2008-17 with "Ironbound," " The Electric Age," "White Devil Armory," and "The Grinding Wheel." And then they changed drummers. You can still see "Scorched" on various "Top Metal Albums of 2023" lists, and it got excellent reviews, often comparing it very favourably to the latest Metallica blunder, but I don't think it quite hits the level of the above-mentioned four albums. Like an 8/10 compared to 9-9.5/10. Still, a very solid record.

Overkill is a New Jersey band.

We ordered some sort of Harry Potter DVD for my niece for Christmas. On Amazon, but sold snd shipped by seller. Its shipping kept getting delayed, then when finally shipped, was delivered to "the same address" but in a town _60 miles_ away. Whoever received it opened it and actually called us (phone# on enclosed slip) and we agreed to meet halfway. The address was indeed correct, so UPS had completely botched that part. But then it turned out the DVD was some generic knockoff. We at first thought the woman who it got had hot-swapped it or something, but she denied it. It was a needless 3-hour mess. We "tried" reporting the seller but we all know how that goes. We threw it in the firepit a few days later LOL.

Overkill is a BIG step up in quality over Danzig. ANYTHING would be better than that. James Brown for that price is a bargain, I'd keep it too. Even if it were album cuts, no singles.

One of Amazon's more entertaining goof-ups. I have a feeling they'll return to this idea pretty soon. Lots of people would pay $11 for a random record (myself included!) I thought that one Amazon review you showed was kind of funny. I would LOVE to order a controversially-titled Danzig record and then receive a Wilco record in the mail 😂🤣

@@glitchsister Honestly, Adele had been overestimating her popularity since "Rolling in the Deep" was 'rolling in the dough'. Wal-Mart's Supercentre no. 5139 had quite a large stock *(5 whole rows worth)* of "30" CDs sitting unsold in the 'Home Entertainment' section for a while.

A few years ago I ran into the exact same issue when trying to order a reissue of The B-52's "Cosmic Thing". I ordered that record maybe 4 times and never once received the correct album. Looking back, one of the albums they sent me was "Everything All The Time" by Band of Horses, which is an album I discovered after the fact. If it would have happened now I would have kept that album instead. Anyway, I still am uncertain who is picking these albums and where the issue is. Interesting to know that this is still going on...

That Overkill album is great, if you like old school Black Sabbath and Metallica albums it's a must listen.

Overkill is a genuine good band and james brown is a legend, so for random albums, that was a pretty good result.

I've listened to metal, a lot with "not so great" singing, since I was a kid. I don't dispute the characterization, but, as I also enjoy music with "so great singing," with metal like that, it helps to consider the singing as just a rhythmic instrument. I think if you listened to the album you'd be able to survive it, and the timbre of the vocals would blend in and sound natural to you by the end. Natural, if not so great.

Nice to see you're a man of taste, HP is great.

Regarding those bar codes, I can confidently say there is no rhyme or reason to them. I work for an electronics parts warehouse that uses Amazon for distribution. Sometimes we get parts back from them for various reasons (broken, wrong item, full moon on a tuesday) and they all have those labels. It's frustrating, because they will cover up our own labels with theirs, so trying to find out the original part number is near impossible - try peeling a stick off of another sticker. We've also noticed that we can get batches of the same part back, but all of the sticks they have are different. Just like with your records. My best guess is that it's an Amazon-specific tag simply for their sorting or records, and has nothing to do with the particular item or order. Then again, who knows. It seems like they just kinda do whatever. I've never encountered this switcheroo item issue so many others have had, but I have received books from Amazon with those obnoxious stickers slapped right on the cover. They also love to ship books in those crappy bags, so when they finally arrive at my doorstep the covers are all bent up and nicked to hell. It's a far cry from a decade ago when Amazon would send things in tight, sealed packaging.

My father once ordered a part for a boat engine and got a woman's perfume instead. Don't remember if it was ebay or amazon but it was extremely funny at the time.

Oh my god I'm going through r/vinyl now and it's truly amazing. What a beautiful glitch. Someone got They Might Be Giants - Flood. It's small moments like this that make you love technology. When it can create weird spontaneous moments.

Overkill was new to me so thank you for that. It’s hilarious that Amazon figured this out and put a stop to it but makes sense.

I preordered a Ronnie James Dio double album on marble vinyl. After release they sent me a triple album that wasn't supposed to be released for another week, of some experimental Detroit jazz. I asked them to send me the right record and they told me it was impossible as it was sold out. They wanted me to return the wrong record for a refund, but instead I traded it for something that cost more than the Dio anyway! But I still want the Dio album! I recently got an Iron Maiden album off Amazon, had to return it as it was wet inside the shrink wrap, obviously from the factory!

Reminds of me the time I ordered face masks and somehow got a faucet! , Amazon just refunded my money and was like “do you whatever you want with it no need to send it back….”

Amazon should do that on purpose! It would be fun to wait and see what would eventually arrive.

I believe LPN numbers from Amazon items are usually returns that were reinserted into stock as unopened and still new.

I'm relieved to know I wasn't the only one to experience this issue. Over a year ago I bought a copy of Weezer's BLUE ALBUM of all records and instead I got a '70s funk compilation. 😂

I just got into rebuilding my vinyl collection about a year ago and have found that a lot of the newer pressings that I have purchased have been warped to a certain degree. I'm not sure if it's a QC thing or a materials issue in newer vinyl formulation or what.

Better than that one guy who ordered a TV and got an AR-15, I guess. Unless you need a rifle.

A similar thing happened to me. I ordered REM’s Document, and received a hip-hop artist named Remi. I returned it and tried again but got the same results. I guess it was Einstein’s definition of insanity but I’m not sure on what end.

I once bought a copy of Marvin Gaye's What's Going On from Amazon. The first side was normal, but the second side started with Neat Neat Neat by The Damned. It turns out the second side was from the soundtrack to Baby Driver.

I have had that issue several times when trying to order SACD, you just get the regular CD but at SACD price so nope and return... I know this format is a little niche but the fact that it doesn't have a proper category i a bit annoying as listings can be misleading I once ordered a record of Underworld - Second Thoughest of the infants (Used) and I received the cd, which I already own, return again. I am really weary now of anything that is not sold by Amazon.. Also, don't know if you guys noticed the bunch of chinese junk sold at $0.99 or less but with outrageous shipping fees? (reminds me of ebay in a way)

I have Bruce Springsteen’s “Western Stars” on vinyl, and it’s a double vinyl album but only three sides have music on. The blank side has artwork etched on to it.

@@burkezillar Bruce Springsteen's Western Stars & Disturbed's Immortalized would've been perfect candidates for 45 rpm releases since a triple 45 would've avoided the blank side of the LP record & 45s have the advantage of superior sonics.

This happened to me on that same record, as well...3 times! Lol I received De La Soul, Fleet Foxes, and Phoebe Bridgers.

I once tried to buy a computer case and got a completely different computer component from the same brand. After two deliveries of that same item, I figured out the problem: Zalman had somehow reused an EAN for both a computer case and hard drive enclosure.

First, points for showing HP sauce. As a Brit stranded in the US that is an item I always have in stock to keep me from getting too homesick. If you like it make sure to get the one actually made in the UK. They also sell it in the US at some grocery stores but it’s not actual HP sauce it’s more like A1. Second, I just went through the same thing. I wanted a HDMI hub and the first time I got a pet toy and the second time I got shower curtain. Finally got it sorted but sheeesh! Love your channel!

The same thing happened to me when I intended to buy Heartbeat City expanded edition a while back. I ended up with Kenny Rogers' Greatest Country Hits instead. I ordered a replacement, and the same album arrived again. Too bad it wasn't cheap like that 666 album or I would've been a rich man.

I bought a LP from a private seller on eBay who it packed securely with other LPs for stuffing. In the end I preferred the packaging to my purchase!

@@sarah2.017 two LPs, an original label Nat King Cole from the 50s and Ben Liebrand 'Styles', both in excellent condition. NKC went to a charity shop and I kept Ben Liebrand. I've had damaged covers used as packing but to get usable records was a surprise.

Those records seems pretty warped. Idea for next video: trying to flat them 😂

I remember back in the eighties buying a record that had the wrong record in the sleeve. I don't remember what record I bought, but it had Deep Purple inside.

That James Brown album is one to keep for sure.

this happened to me too a few years ago. i saw this ep by this band i like called "love is all" and i ordered it since it was only like 5 bucks and i got sent the completely wrong record twice. they let me keep both records even after i filed a return so i got an apoclyptica album for 5 bucks and then a beartooth one for free i guess lmao 🤷‍♀

I guess Amazon Fullfilment Centers are in a river of boxes!

Honestly, my music tastes are so weird I would enjoy both albums.

Those LPN prefix barcodes, from what I remember, track to a single individual item and are completely unique. Most commonly applied to returns or reselling damaged items but since I didn't apply them I don't know every use case. I worked in an Amazon fulfillment center, and even when there were the same items with the LPN barcodes, since they are unique, you had to grab the one with the exact barcode or the computer would be mad.

Literally every record I’ve bought from Amazon has arrived warped, and in my last three cases (all attempts with the same album), actually bent. Not even playable. Something about the way they’re storing or handling LPs is not working right.

Funny enough i also ordered the 666 Satan's child record at least twice and all i got was the super super blues band, a blues record from 1968 featuring Howlin wolf, Muddy Waters and Bo Diddley and the second record i got was Metallica's 72 Seasons instead of returning them and ordering them again i might was well keep the records and add them to my collection.

Reminds me of BMG and the random albums you would get if you forget to cancel. Glad you can get some use out of 2/3 albums.

I did this after hearing about it on r/vinyl. Ended up getting Whenever You Need Somebody by Rick Astley.

that is what happened with some pressings of hamelton the musical soundtrack. the issue there was the label was right but some pressings got the best of simon and garfunkl. odd that it happened but yea it did on some pressings

I've not experienced something as daft as this, but one fun thing that happened back in 2022 with my (and a load of others) copy of Amy Macdonald's re-released This is the Life album on 2x10" white vinyl, which was also signed by her good self; The logistics company (not amazon) fudged up and just before release day sent ALL of them to her home near Glasgow, not realising they were actually meant to be sent out to those of us who had bought them cos she'd already signed them previously, and she announced it in a kind of pissed-off-but-saw-the-funny-side instagram post, so they were stored in her garage temporarily while she waited for them to be all picked up and sent back to the distribution centre again somewhere in Lancashire (that's the north west of England) to actually be sent out, so a nice little tale to go with a now cherished album, some people complained of the delay, but myself, nah, it just added to the value... :D

The LPN barcode is an Amazon return.

This has happened to me 3 times now with vinyl. Every time the record has the correct sticker but is not at all what I ordered.

I notice both of those records have a bit of a warp. I would say easily three quarters of the records that I purchase from amazon arrived warped. Also, more than half of current pressings I purchase regardless of where are warped. So disappointing because they are so pricey. I had an issue years ago where I kept getting the wrong record. I don't recall whether it was remedied or I just gave up.

so that's what this "danzig roulette" business has been about. it's all i've seen in r/vinyl for the past few days, and at this point i was too afraid to ask...
