Hi Chig, I am watching this video for the 3rd time. Both parts. I LOVE your adventures and feel honored to get to come along. You find some of the most amazing treasure everywhere you go. I learn a lot from your stories and I also like that your wife comes along on some of your explorations. She's your perfect partner for sure. The episode in the cave was so interesting. Keep up the good work! Thank you for being another caring soul about our early history and the men who served to protect our freedom. I think of those men every time you make a find. There's always a story, a life and a part of that story we can only guess at. Bless the families who lost loved ones in every battle we've fought. Thank YOU for your service as well! Stay safe and keep finding those great finds. Happy hunting!

Hi Beau! You've totally inspired me to get into metal detecting when I get closer to retiring. My husband and I have kayaks and will be exploring our local creeks and rivers here in Northern California. We probably won't have near the old historical finds- but treasure is treasure. I see you find a lot of horseshoes and I hope the following info helps you: 1. Those round horseshoes are called "egg bar" shoes (Outside of the U.S.- oval shoes, moons shoes... ). You are correct, they are a therapeutic shoe most commonly used for heel support and equine navicular-type lamenesses. But they have other types of applications. 2. Round shoes with a bar down the middle are called Heart Bar and are also a therapeutic shoe for varied equine lameness. 3. The single shoes you find with all the nails in them are not (always) off a dead horse. Horses lose shoes all the time and when it happens the nails are pulled through the hoof wall and often left complete, nails and all. Shoes with no nails in them are often pulled by a human. But they can also be pulled off accidentally by the horse and the nails have simply fallen out or rotted out. 4. The angular bending technique you see in the end of the nails are called clinching. It is how the farrier keeps the shoe in the hoof. 5. The front feet on a horse is more often rounder than hind feet, which are more oval. The shoes will reflect these shapes and that is why you'll find rounder shaped or more oval shapes. The long narrow shoes are often off of mules and donkeys (etc). Happy hunting!

I prefer the soldier just decided to go go home to mom, stuck his barrel between a split tree, gave it a yank and tossed the darn thing in the creek. Unarmed you have a change being taken prisoner. Armed with a thing like that, no questions are being asked on whether it's loaded or anything.

It was cocked and with a percussion cap. It was ready to fire. Which you only do right before wanting to use it. The guy most likely charged and miscalculated the distance between some trees, getting it snagged or stumbled and fell on it. Or got shot and fell on it.

The musket with the bent barrel ... this was typically what was done to muskets to prevent their reuse once captured. A large fire was built and the muskets were placed into it and when hot enough bent around a tree. Great find ..... and a great place to metal detect. Keep hunting that creek and on the flats out from the creek banks. There is a lot more to be found there. One thing for sure no one else has metal detected where your at.

There was a large (60 pound) James shell that turned up at a local foundry during a WWII metal drive. I have personally laid eyes on this shell. The foundry never attempted to melt it down for obvious reasons, but instead kept it sitting on a brick wall for over 50 years. When I last saw it the owner was trying to unscrew the fuse on it which we quickly dissuaded him from doing.
