    Awesome tool, sir! You could replace the toggle switch for a potentiometer trigger for even more precise control, add limit switches for an auto retract function when empty, or use an encoder for that as well as the ability to display the remaining percentage of product!

    Beautiful construction. Perhaps use an axial threaded rod for more precise control and torque. An axial mounted gear has a nut on it so that the threaded rod can pass through it and extend in and out the same way that the rack does in this example. You inspire me yet again! 👏🏻

    Looks great and I can see a lot of time went into making that. Not sure anyone calking windows or gaps around there home or working on a ladder would want to carry a battery with them. A metal one cost around 3 bucks. Still looks cool and shows you can make most manual tools into power tools.

    Did you know how expensive an cordless electric silicone tube gun is? This solution is at a fraction of that price, and variable speed is more accurate in this one. The only thing I think it needed more, was to secure with two screws the motor mount to the rear plywood ring. The way it is it rely only on glue.

    While I realize the main theme of this channel is luxuriating in precision wood surgery :-), it would be interesting to see what would be needed to create a variant that has some kind of flow-rate feedback so you could dial in a particular bead width.

  • @markhedquist9597

    @markhedquist9597

    2 жыл бұрын

    The speed control knob on the side of the handle is operated by the thumb, hence flow rate and bead size is easily controlled.

  • @Graham_Wideman

    @Graham_Wideman

    2 жыл бұрын

    @@markhedquist9597 The gun as shown indeed has a knob. However, that's not a speed control per se. The knob controls an adjustable-pules-width voltage supply; effectively sending the motor an adjustable voltage. The resulting speed of the motor is highly dependent on the load (push-back force from the cylinder), especially at low pulse widths (low speed, low rate-of-flow) where you would probably like the finest control. You can hear this in the tone of the motor, which is quite unsteady when trying to push out a narrow bead. That's at the heart of my comment -- it would be nice if the unit could have a more controllable rate of flow, probably using some sort of feedback. Might or might not be simple to implement, but as long as this gadget is motorizing an otherwise hand-powered function, it would be exciting to see it actually improving the quality of the result. On the other hand, maybe the result so far is "good enough", and further refinement isn't worthwhile.

  • @markhedquist9597

    @markhedquist9597

    2 жыл бұрын

    @@Graham_Wideman Ah. I see. Yes, maybe "good enough" is good enough. My knowledge of electronics and motor controls is not vast. But my interest is! It would be interesting to see a build that has all the bells and whistles, and super precise dispensing of material. Thanks for expanding on your comment. I wish I had the knowledge you have, or access to a person who has said knowledge. I have a number of builds I'm planning and I could use some help.
