Amazing Discoveries - Magic Wand - 1990
Ойын-сауық
“Amazing Discoveries” was a late-night insomniac fueled INFOMERICAL! Before the internet, Before QVC, and Before Billy Maze … Mike Levy (1948 - 2003,) was “America’s Pitch Man” for products “As Seen On TV” you see in today’s retail.
Most of these clips aired between 1989 - 1992 when cable networks signed off the air at midnight!

Back in the day this was amazing. Now it's just an immersion blender.
Ian Long was classic. My college buddy and I would stay up late after doing homework to watch Amazing Discoveries and crack up goofing on these guys.

Auri presented/demonstrated by John.
When I was a kid, these shows would come up after cartoons on Saturdays. I was so innocent back then I didn't even realize that it was a commercial! This one had several competitors, most notably the Daily by Kitchenmate, There was the Fingerhut Wok from Red China, The Snakmaster that made the triangular foods, The salsa maker, and the classic mandoline slicers that went by many names.
5:01 - I don't think they were expecting the audience to react like that. hahaha

They were so disgusted.
12:20 "ice is real hard though!" yes. yes it is.
I knew the Mr. Show "Thrilling Miracles" sketch was making fun of infomercials, but I didn't realize just how much direct influence they took from a specific infomercial until seeing this.
The audience is sooo amazed that they are unable to stop clapping no matter what he does or says.
*adds chicken* "pure vegatable soup"
Michael needs to be protected at all costs. This show was a damn gem.

06:05 to 06:30 the poor man wants to explain what’s wrong with the other kitchen gadgets! Let him do his spiel 😂😂😂
Matteo Lane brought me here 😂

I bought one, not from the informercial, and was completely Underwhelmed. Skim Milk full of very very tiny Air Bubbles Tastes like Skim Milk full of Air. Great for Gas in the Intestinal Track.
Loved Mike Levey and his crew.
I thought this was going to be a different magic wand.
There was a similar product around the same time - the *DAILY* from Kitchenmate!

The Kitchenmate...Wasn't that an infomercial with a woman who sounded like she was all coked up describing all the attachments? I remember that one, I think the host name was Kathy Mason.

@@rayrosini8907 YES I've been trying to find it on youtube - but it was so rare and so 80s that I don't think anyone recorded it.

Bought one of these for $12 last week 😂
Did they not have immersion blenders back then?
My parents bought the Braun one that had the attachment to whip skin milk.
Venturi ring, with patented wiffle ball technology!
I wonder how much the Tasters were paid to Lie and say it is/was great Tasting?
QVC was still around in 1990, though they would overtake HSN as the #1 shopping channel.
I used to want this
6:17 This looks just like mayonnaise. 🙄
A cat snuck into the controlroom and played with the applause button..
Sweater guy doesn’t actually take whole tastes. He hates it.
Yay. Foam milk.
All the women in the audience got a free Magic Wand that day.

The "Magic Wand" sounds like the name of a sex toy.
oil doesn't have cholesterol
So this amazing discovery is a stick blender with different attachments, now no one has ever made one of them before? (Bamix patented the first one in 1950) Plus the bloke sounds like a market seller. So not an amazing discovery, something that you could discover just by walking into any shop that sells cooking equipment. Still these infomercials are interesting to watch, more to point out the BS than anything else!
