Amazing Discoveries- HP 9000 - 1989
Ойын-сауық
THE VERY FIRST - “Amazing Discoveries” was a late-night insomniac fueled INFOMERCIAL! Before the internet, Before QVC, and Before Billy Maze … Mike Levy (1948 - 2003,) was “America’s Pitch Man” for products “As Seen On TV” you see in today’s retail.
Most of these clips aired between 1989 - 1992 when cable networks signed off the air at midnight!

I can't believe I found this. I was 10 when I saw this for the first time. I thought it was a legitimate TV show and didn't even recognize that it was an advertisement.

Really? I watched the shows all the time when I was 10 years old and I knew right away it was just a long commercial.
When the kids say they are bored with all the devices they have I show them this and explain I watched this “show” over and over at least twice a week because it was literally the best thing on to me when I was 8-11 yrs old.
I used to stay up late just to watch this show!

I would watch Mike Levy every morning before I went to work.
WOW thanks for posting!! Used to love this “show”. RIP Mike Levey
HP 9000 computers rock.
OMG I found it! I watched Amazing Discoveries before school every day and this is the one I've always remembered!
This was the original! I've been looking for this video for ever. My college buddy and I loved to goof on Ian Long. They were like a Laurel and Hardy team.
If all those products really worked as promised, we might have flying cars today
I have a sneaking suspicion this product had limited functionality specifically with grease, ink, and iodine.
20:57 - It kind of looks like the spray application wasn't having the dramatic effect he was going for, so he quickly switched to using it straight from the tube. Good recovery
Also sold as "DIDI-7"

Thanks for uploading this video!
0:27 The guy in the audience on the left looks like Zack Morris from Saved by the Bell
These infomercials were so entertaining
Thanks for this blast from the past
Ah, but before all of the "pitchmen" you named, there was Ron Popeil. Ron WAS the real "first pitchman. He found that selling on TV made sense (and cents +) long before the others.
I remember later when they reaired this one, they blurred out the names of the other products.
wat the heck was hp 9000? those chemicals had to be super dangerous
And i think to myself....what a wonderful woooorld
this must be an early show because he isn't wearing the sweater

This was the debut show...
HP 9000 is a way of life
Ian likes to clean (go) fast
The precursor of paid programs / infomercials... , this would come on very early on ( i swear ) every channel...
If i had a nickel for every time i got an iodine stain on my clothes.
Where's Mike's Cosby sweater?
Where’s his sweater??? This is just weird!

He wore the nice dress shirt just to do the stain routine with Ian.

I was thinking that too! LOL
I wonder if the Brit died of cancer from rubbing in all those chemicals?

Patriotsoul Mike did. 🙁
Mike played dumb a little *too* convincingly.
That stuff stank. If you got it on your hands, they would stink long after you washed them

Please describe the scent of the stench. What stains did you try it with? Did it work with everything?
@pjimmbojimmbo1990

@@camouflage81 It was a weird smell, quite repulsive, a bit like Hypoid Gear Oil. I tried it on blueberry juice, and beet juice, results were nothing to write Home about.
I wonder how well Mike Levy sleeps considering all the people he fooled through the years? 😂

@@NEWYORKERZ360 ha, same. 2003 cancer took him at age 55, left behind a wife and 3kids. I mighta bee a little salty about the 29.99 (plus s&h...no prime back then lol) until I knew what a young age he passed, and was more than likely the sole earner for their home given the time frame they were raised from. Reckon I can quit being salty now 🙃

All that gold in the bank made it all better
Mike is kinda dull in this one. Must be the lack of sweater.
