Hope you must have read his "Idea of Justice".....throughout his career he has been mostly concerned with distributive justice through welfare economics. Its not monetary economics or trade economics. These are" flood economics"...and flood managers are there..Amartya Sen is about "after floods and due to floods". That is why he was never considered for RBI governorship kind of assignments. You may read his Rationality and Freedom. Identity and violence Inequality reexamined Technology and unemployment Development as freedom... He was also awarded Skyte Prize in Political Sciences..

Unless the western world certifies someone among to be an intellectual, we hardly celebrate them thru our own understanding. And when we look at certain names in the list of noble laureates we clearly understand the motives. Very similar to the list of Bharat Ratna, that trend of course has changed now and only the deserving are being decorated and honoured.
