Amalgamation: Why Lugard Joined Northern & Southern Nigeria in 1914

Is Lugard and Amalgamation the Problem with Nigeria? Sir John Dealtry Frederick Lugard was sent to this land we called today Nigeria to do a job.
Lugard did his job very well and left Nigeria in 1919, that is, about 103 years ago.
Lugard remains one of the most vilified colonial officials in Nigeria.
But is he or the amalgamation of 1914 to blame for the socio-economic and political challenges as well as the issue of nationhood affecting the country, Nigeria, today?

Nigerians continue to blame amalgamation for their issues despite the fact that leaders after the colonial rule have been corrupt and wasteful. Great job!

They are right! There's probably no country in the world that has zero corruption in high places (just look at the Biden regime in the USA, for instance), but Nigeria's problems go far deeper than mere corruption.

Nigeria should never have been amalgamated, especially given the huge cultural differences betwen the North and South. The amalgamation is at the root of many of the country's problems, and may eventually precipitate another violent fragmentation.

Dear Sir/Ma, do you think Lugard was worse than our present leaders?? After much consideration and review of many sources, as well as development in Nigeria, I'm of the opinion that if Nigerian leaders after independence were as committed as Lugard was, Nigeria would be a great country by now. It's high time we hold our leaders accountable. Thank you for watching. Much love🤝🤝👏👏
