Am I Religious?

Am I religious?

A persistent, recurring and defining factor of this channel over the years has been my relentless commitment to unbiased research and modeling information, by converting raw data into actionable knowledge. Reaching as much as it is feasible, as close to full neutrality in all subject matters examined as possible. I value unbiased positions, as they are the central core of all professional research and data analysis.
I of course have preserences, hopes, desires, ideas and these can transform into bias, however I try to set them aside as I seek to avoid influencing the reading of the data.
Reseach is always a complex narrative that cannot be extricated from the contemporary intellectual framework alone and it requires correct assessment of evidence.
A part from my historical videos, I've made videos on the history or religion, the historicity of religious figures and the ontological linguistic analysis of the bible.
That's because this channel is interdisciplinary in nature, and reflects my own constitutive eclectic range of interests.
As I read the comments under those videos I notice that people appear to perceive me as several different things all at once. Atheist, agnostic, religious. I take that as evidence of at least a marginal degree of success for my position of academic neutrality during such presentations, which is always my base model of information gathering and assessment.
Research bias is the act of influencing the process of a systematic investigation, whether it be done knowingly or unknowingly. The presence of bias, may lead to inconsistent results and can be the reason for the poor validity of research outcomes, lack of accuracy and suboptimal reporting.
How do we guard from it?
Avoiding generalized statements, accumulating empirical evidence, putting together a team, and other methodological design measures within systematic review are all methods to reduce personal bias, since the first principle of researching is impartiality.
However, I think the first step in showing my williness to always improve in my quest for impartiality is to recognize my possible sources of bias.
I have reached a point in my channel's life where I believe in order to ensure an higher level of unbiased research and delivery I must disclose publicly any potential source of personal bias I may hold.
I've already covered that from a political stand point, eventhough I'm basically a moderate, I do tend to lean occasionally on one side, and other times on the other, depending on the subject under discussion, but only in my personal life. I do not let politics influence my research. Yet there is the matter of faith.
Hence, I believe it is now time to discuss whether I am religious or not.
And to those who tell me in the comments "it's impossible to be unbiased", first that's not what I'm saying. I am not saying I have zero bias, no one can, I am saying however that it's imperative to try and reduce one's bias as much as possible. And there is a plethora of sources, lectures, peer reviewed studies and meta data that bring forth several methods and modes of engagement to achieve just that. Bias prevention.
This is from the best minds among us, not me.
So what I try to reach is industry standard within academia. Do not believe those who tell you otherwise. Bias must be approached, identified and avoided to the limits of our minds' capabilities.
.
So what types of bias are there?
Design bias , attricion bias, selection bias, publication bias, analysis bias which arises during data processing, spectrum bias, procedural bias and many more. Dealing with numbers, integers and statistics is not as susceptible to bias as with qualitative facts. So we must be even more aware of our own biases when shifting concepts into veridical experiences, and categories within phenomenological-hermeneutical domains.
Thus I make this video. Not only to answer a possible curiosity about me some of you do have, but most importantly because by disclosing any potential personal source of bias, I may be helping the reaching of truth and the pursue of knowledge, which is my ultimate goal.
Knowledge which is bound by historically available instruments and theories; knowledge which is based on truth. Truth which exists independently of the perceivers. Therefore it can be sought.
Ever bound by its relations of correspondence with the limitations of perceptual analysis.
Approach any object of inquiry, and see it from different angles to become confident that its appearance is coherent with reality.
So onto the answer. Am I religious? Truth be told, I am a man of faith.
I don't think I remember a single moment in my entire life when I did not have faith in God. I am a theist, I believe in God, I worship God, I pray to God. Moreover I am a Christian.

As a Christian myself, the fact that I was never 100% sure if you were religious or not (though I suspected it a little) is a statement to your intellectual honesty and impartiality. Watching your videos I would often find myself wishing you would go further with your conclusions in favour of my own Christian biases but you always keep it within the realm of things you can verify historically. Your impartiality makes your content incredibly rich and interesting and has helped me shape my own faith and recognise when I have my own biases. God bless you and I wish your channel continued success.

But it really makes little sense that this guy who’s otherwise so rational believes that because he had a premonition and instinct that it means there is a god, let alone a Christian god… discounting all other religions even ones before Christianity. That just tells us that he is Christian because he was brought up in Europe in the 1900s.. just like if he were to be born in India he would not have this line of thought… I would think Metatron would have thought of this as well

@@blankken8071 it is unreasonable and intellectually dishonest to take two small points in a man's life and judge his decisions and resoning based off that alone. The full context is neccessary to assess the validity of someone's decision, and in the case of a continuous one it is neccessary to have background from the current time of discussion (or whatever point the discussion is set to end at) all the way back to the earliest related experiences. Obviously full detail is impossible to obtain, however given a few hours of discussion or a few hundred pages of text, it is easy to glean the information needed, at which point it is up to the individual to form their own opinions based on their own knowledge and experiences.

@@blankken8071 Going on full rationality there is a certain point you can not pass. Mystical experiences go beyond rational, still not being mental illness. If you never have had mystical experiences, then you can not truly understand those and can always explain them away. Mystical experiences are NOT religious, as they do not require religious belief. However, as said, if our worldview is heavily rational then even if we would experience even something slightly irrational we would either explain it a way or try to see it as coindidence. So in other words we create our own reality. Also, if we were offered something so powerful it would at once would go against everything we would have seen as a truth it would either a. change our worldview dramatically b. make us mad or c. make us go even deeply to our current worldview, thus denying any mystical or supernatural even more. So for these reasons we are not offered any experiences that would go wildly over what we can handle. I know that could sound as a makeshift explanation but I don't know how to better explain it as we go to territory which goes beyond words...

@@cunjoz You hear a lot, "Believe on Jesus, and you'll be saved", but what does it even MEAN to believe on Him? Well, it's not like Santa where you just simply recognize Jesus exists. Recognizing He's real isn't enough to be saved. To believe on Jesus is to FULLY put EVERY single ounce of trust/faith into ONLY Jesus Christ for your salvation. There's nothing you, I, anyone or anything can do to dwell in God's presence. Jesus says even your greatest acts are filthy rags. The cost of sin is too great, and we all have sinned. We all fall short and deserve punishment for the crimes we've committed. Even one sin is enough for eternal damnation, but we don't HAVE to suffer that punishment because Jesus paid the price for us. God came down as a man to be the perfect sacrifice for all of us. See, in order for that debt to be paid, a perfect, sinless man needed to die. He paid our ransom, so now, all we have to do is simply accept His gift of salvation. Put 100% of your trust/faith in Jesus Christ ALONE for your salvation because it's ONLY through Him that you can live in God's presence in Heaven forever. I also wanna note that remember that it's a GIFT. So, as God's holding the gift of salvation out to you, it's on YOU to accept it. God's not gonna FORCE you to live in His presence if you don't want to. If you want nothing to do with Him, He respects that.

Biologists tend to be more atheists where as geneticists and biochemists are often more religious. I think it comes from the latter really looking into the nuts of bolts of creation and understanding the complexity that rises from even something like eyes or blood clotting to evolve, whereas the biologist will see oh bacteria that is light sensitive and think ah there's your pre evolved eye. The biochemist will see the fact that any "step" of the evolution requires multiple things to evolve simultaneously for it to at least not be detrimental to the organism and when you put all these steps together where dozens of things have to evolve simultaneously every step of the way... It kinda makes it hard to believe in evolution by pure chance

So maybe just people who research in fields that are able to ee the horizon of science in the very small and the very large scale. Metatron, I am a Roman Catholic and I use some of your videos (especially the Shroud of Turin vid) to show to my non religious friends and colleagues. They are great, neutral videos to get the discussion going on Jesus and the surrounding history. They have helped these people reconsider their negative bias towards religion and to approach the topic in a neutral way that they might not have considered before. Some then continue to do their own research and look at the evidence to then make an informed decision. Want to say thankyou for sharing your faith. Much respect!

Hey, there! I want you to know that I respect your position, but I would like to share my story/experience with you: The thing is, yes, God exists. You are not obligated to believe me, but I will nevertheless share my story. I used to be agnostic and mentally mock religious people. But when I was going through difficulties (personal insecurities), God spoke into my heart and helped me. It wasn't a physical voice. It was neither in my ears, nor in my head. But in my HEART. It sounds absurd, and there are no words to describe it, but it was true. And the love I felt in my heart was the greatest feeling in the world. It is stronger than the kindest mother could ever love her children. A love that takes away any sadness. Now I don't just believe, I KNOW He exists. At that moment, I wanted to hug Jesus as tightly as I could and thank Him for all His blessings. He will help you through struggles. Even if you don't believe, still talk to Him, like you would talk to a friend. Ask Him to reveal Himself to you. And if you TRULY want it, it will happen. I can't tell you when or how. That's different for everyone. But He will guide you to the truth. And He will ease your pain. He is the only one who can. JESUS CHRIST IS OUR LORD AND SAVIOR. Wishing you the best.

An hour before he did the belt to the power steering in my car snapped right in front of the turn in to his street. I wasnt going to his house, I was just in the area. I heard a voice telling me to go over to his house to ask for help from his dad, but I ignored it. After finding out what happened it shook me to my very core and it gave me the realization that someone was reaching out to me to help my friend in need. He is still around today thankfully.

Sounds like a load of shyte. You didn't go to see your friend, so you didn't NEED to go see your friend. Any God would already know that, so would never have bothered telling you to go visit them. Hells, any God would know that you would ignore the voice and so they wouldn't bother telling you in the first place. So we have to imagine that it wasn't God, but some lesser being. Like a guardian angel from a fairy tale. Which brings us back to God. Fairy tales are from childhood. So too are imaginary friends. Now, if you or anyone in the history of humanity is able to SHOW that a God actually exists; to demonstrate that God is real, then you can call it a religion. If you can't show/ demonstrate that God is real, however, let's just all agree that God is a version of Santa Claus, but for grown ups, who want to keep pretending.

Our host's bias was obvious by the postings that assume or defend historicity of Jesus with a total lack of awareness of topical peer-reviewed scholarship from the past century. Citing the Testimonium Flavianum is a _big red flag,_ as the TF has been reliably demonstrated to be a forged insertion by Eusebius or Pamphilus. Almost as bad are citations of Pliny minor, Tacitus, etc., obviously derivative. All fact-based historians consider the gospels _at best_ largely fictional, thus wholly unreliable. The next indicator is carefully ignoring that _all_ the earliest writings we have -- Paul's authentic epistles from the 50s, 1 Peter, 1 Clement from the 60s -- entirely lack any hint of a live Jesus having ever said or done literally anything at all. Paul takes great pains to support his opinions, which Mark has his Jesus spell out in just so many words. If anybody had heard of an actual Jesus saying those things, Paul would have felt no need to justify his opinions; they would be canon already. Third is ignoring that late forgeries such as 2 Peter, like Ignatius, are at pains to vilify Christians saying Jesus had not been here yet. Evidently such Christians (like Paul) were so common that they had to be formally denounced in Canon once it was doctrine that there had been one. It is wholly conceivable that there really was a Jesus known to Peter executed by Romans. If there was, we just have no reliable information about him. Wishing is no help, especially for a scrupulous historian.

It is important for Christians to glorify God in witnessing to the World, claiming to follow Christ in front of the World. This goes beyond saying in God? we trust. Identifying that God by name, title, attribute, . . . . is important. Step by step a Christian is being baptized into the Name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. It is a process and not a short ritual.

The latter can be incomplete, or even false, for various reasons, mostly for technological reasons (how could the ancient know of microbes if they didn't have a microscope?), or because research can be based on previous scientific statements that were false to begin with. But the scientific METHOD is valid always and everywhere, and it is so because it requires that one's conclusions MUST be validated, proofs MUST be found and experiments MUST be repeated by a LARGE number of other researchers. Science is NEVER an individual endeavour (contrary to the myth of the "misunderstood genius"), it REQUIRES communication and debate and confrontation with other similar scientists, exactly to minimize the individual biases.

faith and not facts? Faith is directly connected to the facts; the truths; the Bible. Additionally, there is an abundance of evidence for biblical events that dumbed down scientists cannot comprehend! The Bible is the word of God, has never been altered. What I say is the truth. Please, when you pray, don’t beg and be selfish, but know that it is by God’s will that prayers are answered. Another important part of prayer is PRAISE, praising The Lord. From the ark outline in the Ararat Mountains, to the chariots and skulls in the Red Sea; from the remains of ancient cities to the remains of giants; from massive large weapons and helmets, to an inscription of Goliath in pottery in Gaza; from a mountain covered in black, surrounded by crushed carvings of a golden calf in Saudi Arabia, with nearby being a oasis of the exact number of palm trees mentioned in the Bible, still there! And much more. Most importantly, only get your understanding of the Truth from the Bible and those you trust. The end times? They are already here. Jesus may come in 19 years.

But these Jews did follow Jesus, and if no one saw Jesus preform miracles, couldn't the people of the time easily disprove him? And the bible was created relatively quickly after the death of Jesus, meaning people who were alive at the time would likely could disprove the gospels as they were alive at the time of Jesus

In some people's minds it adds credibility to the whole "istaphobe" narrative these days which is rather unfortunate. Actually the name Metatron led me in the opposite direction. Most Christians have no regard for apocryphal scripture. At best its simply not inspired - At worst it's demonic. I assumed he chose Metatron because of its implication to his mission of being a defender of truth. Metatron is supposedly the official scribe of heaven.

This is so beautiful. Thank you so much for sharing. I needed this . Last night I looked on Twitter and just felt my faith in humanity slipping. Horror stories of abuse, war, child illness, general nastiness towards each other and more. It is so hard to believe sometimes. But stories like these really give me some hope that God is there and despite the horrors that surround us, he still loves us and cares.

As someone who was raised Catholic and later in college questioned said faith only to find it again when the Virgin Mary and later Jesus came to me in a time of need I understand why some people might not understand how could you be religious and a man of science at the same time. Science and religion do not need to be diametricaly opposed because science deals with our material reality while religion deals with the metaphysical. I believe God gave us certain gifts, which includes reason as a way to learn more about him and the world he created. The more we learn about the natural world, the more we learn about God.

I don't comment too often, particularly on your videos which I always find fascinating. I very much appreciate this sharing of your personal beliefs and experiences. Mine is somewhat similar. I was raised in a tradition, but the rote repetition of tradition is never enough and so for a time I "went out on my own". But even after having an experience, reason brought me back, and later evidence solidified my return. Afterwards I've had several experiences that not only affirmed what I knew, but also gave me an appreciation for anyone who honestly and conscientiously searches for the truth regardless of their beliefs. As an allusion to Dante, I'm a little past the mid point of my life but I see everything so differently now--not separate from but rather complimentary of tradition, reason, science and faith. If God is love and God is in everything, then all of reality from the macroscopic level of the cosmos to even the smallest microbe or quark exists because of love, and all of creation cries out to return that love. If there is no love? Then bring love, and there shall be love.
