How about if one of us went back to Ancient Rome?
This was fun. That's the Metatron I like to see just a little more often.
First I had this long winded treatise on how to bring an ancient up to speed but I thought even I wouldn't read it so I ramble with the aim of algorithmic manipulation.
They used a very Nordic looking actor, fine features. All wrong even when compared to the statue. Even if Alexander had 'blue' eyes, they wouldn't be those light sky blue Nordic blue eyes. Possibly more blue like in North Italy which is not a Nordic sky blue but people of the Mediterranean type blue eyes. Also "blonde" is not yellow hair which Nordic blonde is.
Would it be Gate jieitai kanochi nite, kaku tatakaeri or Thermae Romae?
Imagine trying to explain to a Roman that some people "pick their gender" 😅
>Gladiatrix Ah, so a sacrificial creature from a society foreign to the ruling class, one who is there for amusement and potential play later.
I'd think weapons technology would be fairly easy for them to wrap their heads around, if you explain it as the bare bones it is. Guns= sling that throw using fire. Artillery/missiles= catapults and ballista that are propelled with fire. Jets= Kites that fly using fire. Bombs= Make lots of fire very, very fast. ...and I think you get the idea. I think the hang up they'd have is how much intelligence gathering and decision making is done in real time now. Radar, magnified vision, satellites, GPS, infrared, radio communications...all this and more allows for on the spot decision making and adjustments to tactics and strategy in real time. THAT is what would likely blow a Roman's mind militarily.
Loved this. And I'm the same spirit, I still hope someone will finally make the "Rome sweet Rome" movie.
I bet that person would regret turning down steam technology.
As someone who works in security, when I have to provide a detailed description of someone, words are minced a bit but not to the point you need a thesaurus to figure out who or what this person is like O.o " approx. ~6'5" brown haired middle aged white/black/native/indian/asian/middle-eastern male with a white beard, glasses and a limp favouring a prosthetic right leg, was acting confrontational/aggressive/violent etc... . (If they have a mental disability that I know for 100% sure I will mention it, otherwise altered state of mind is used if it is relevant to their current behaviour. If I know for a fact they used drugs I will mention it as: under the influence). When you have to transmit information you need to be clear and concise. It's not from a place of insensitivity and in no way meant to offend the person in any way
Idea for a future video: A 16th century knight visits 6th century Scandinavia or Britain.
So sad that you skipped over economics. Much of modern economic theory is based on industrial mechanization displacing slaves and paid manual labor. Explaining why we don’t have slaves would quickly get into why we don’t *need* slaves although, as you said, he would intuitively grasp the concept of “wage slave” and would probably argue that the poorest of the poor would be better off as slaves of a halfway compassionate master who would make sure they were housed, clothed and fed. He would have a very hard time understanding how most modern countries do *not* base their economic power on how much gold and silver the government possesses. Explaining that the modern concept of money is as a token of work that can be done would help but he’d have to be shown a modern factory with robots doing much of the work to truly grasp that today, “wealth” means not just how much stuff you own but how much work a society can get done regardless of how many hands are available to do it and how much gold is available to pay them. Robots would likely be pure sorcery to him. Artificial intelligence, even a quick talk with a chatbot, would reinforce his suspicion that we have godlike powers. Explaining to him how robots and AI are woven into our economies, even as tentatively as they are now, might make him wonder if we are human at all.
i like this make more plas
It would be like that scene from the Matrix when Keanu Reeves wakes up on the ship.
This just reminds me of a scene from the anime Drifters, when Emperor Scipio Africanus got to meet Kanno Naoshi, a Japanese World War II pilot.
Hold the line. 💯
Imagine the ancient Roman being shown Joe Biden as the "Leader of the Free World", LOL!
I think regarding warfare he would be terrified by how advanced armaments only made war more total, what was the point of inventing tanks, if your enemy invents tanks just after you roll them into battle. The death toll of modern battles, the way artillery works, and how many soldiers die with no direct contact with the enemy, the fragility of life when everything has so desvastating power.
I could be wrong on this, but Romans have always struck me as supremely adaptable and, above all, practical. Of all ancient peoples, I think they might have the easiest time with being transported to the 21st Century because they seemed to say, "Hey that thing we never heard of works/is proven, so let's make it/do it ourselves." Of course there would be tremendous initial shock that, in some cases, would never be gotten over, but I tend to think their reaction would be more curiosity than fear. But what do I know.
Anyone else find the replica of the Athena Parthenos on top of " The Roman Army" book interesting?
yes, we have our fair share of stupid people in canada
They will be shocked, but soon they will adapt. Human intellect hasn't changed the last two millenniums. The biggest problem as I see it will be during acquaintances, sins, as far as I know, latin doesn't have "him", "her"😉. In general, they'll have a big problem with pronounces.😢 But they will see the fruition of after many centuries trials and errors, finally men can give birth and breastfeed and women can have penices😂 And probably they'd wish to die again.
Saint Seiya! Turuturutuuuruuuuuu
Molto bella, brava❤
why ask what you already known.please stop lying to your self.not gust the Egyptian wer black but the whole world wer black.get over it.❤from a true African Jamaican
You missed the most obvious one - food quality. Romans were no stranger to the idea of fast food, even poor quality fast food and such but seeing many of the things we eat today, especially at modern restaurants and convenience stores would probably horrify them. Sure they might be astounded that we have affordable meats and foods that would have been incredibly expensive in their own time but the chemicals and things we do to our food would likely not be well received at all
Canada is a WOKE country. Has been like this since Trudeau came in 2015. A total mess now.
"So about those lead pipes your empire was so proud of..."
I’m guessing influenza, Covid or some other foreign pathogen would take him down quickly if he arrived today.
You forgot ice cream.
Let's face it, their jaw would be on the floor for a long time. Just handing him a cellphone with speech translation would suffice to blow his/her mind for a long, long time.
Excellent idea! Also, please make all the videos you talked about lol
God bless!
I feel like the first thing the Roman would notice is that people are drinking water without any need for sanitizing it first or adding alcohol.
Evidence from the Battle of Gaugamela clearly shows that Alexander was a come from behind kinda guy
Romans walking much more than we do explains why modern society is so fat by comparison.
When the Ancient Roman is sended home everyone gonna probably think he has gone mad when he/she start talking about everything he/she had seen, and when it comes to the pagan roman we can only hope that it is not Emperor or a person with high power close to the emperor, and that they don't want to eradicate every of the christianity people before they grow to strong and replace majority with their religion.
An interesting way to learn history by examining history by transporting someone from the past to the future. A discussion of ancient republics would be interesting.
One minor knitpick. While it is important to point out that a lot of the Roman statuary we have today was once painted, it is equally disingenuous to say that no Greco-Roman statues were left bear or minimally painted. This polarizing swing into the other direction seems to stem from one specific source focused more on a political statement about institutionalized racism in Western culture obsessed about “purity of white” statuary. It is a hot take piggy backing off the research into color use in Greco-Roman statuary. We have to understand that Greco-Roman art spans thousands of years. Pigments were not as permanent as what we have today, so even in the Greek Classical era you would have many statues in various states of vibrancy/fadedness. We also have to recognize that artistic tastes changed just like they do today, so you would have an overlap of different styles, some out of fashion, some current, and some invoking a sense of an older era. You see this with Greek pottery with wide swings from simple, geometric minimalistic designs to extremely elaborate red-figure over the course of time. This rich tapestry of different artistic styles would be very well understood by people with the talent to sculpt such life like statuary. And they utilized it to great effect for various reasons. A great example of this is the garden fresco depicting a statue of Mars, discovered at Pompeii. The Roman artist clearly painted a white statue of Mars here, with just a small amount of red/purple pigment for the cloak and facial details. The rest of it is meant to be depicted as White Marble. This is just my personal guess, but with the Gorgon mask positioned above Mars, it might be to evoke a sense of the Etruscan or Greek era for the Romans contemporary with the fresco, the same way such monochrome statuary does for us today. This is just one of an few examples found on Roman Frescos. Here is a link for you to view for yourself. www.worldhistory.org/image/2232/fresco-of-a-statue-of-mars-pompeii/ Another example is the Fresco of Ajax Kidnapping Cassandra after the sack of Troy. She clings to the statue of Pallas, specifically mentioned being made of wood by Homer, and here the Roman fresco of the event shows a monochrome wooden Pallas instead of a painted one. www.meisterdrucke.ie/fine-art-prints/Roman-Pompeian-wall-painting/1186417/Ajax-the-Lesser-drags-Cassandra-away-from-the-Xoanon%2C-1st-H.-1st-cen.-AD.html I think it is important to point out the use of color on Greco-Roman statuary. However I do think it is irresponsible to also say all Greco-Roman statuary was painted when clearly we have examples of art that are contrary to that. Both polychromatic and monochromatic art was appreciated by ancient people (bronze statuary, gilded statuary for example), just like it is today. I bring this up because I believe that modern identity politics should never have been merged with the polychromy reality of Greco-Roman art in the first place. It’s unfortunate because instead of the truth that the Greeks and Romans used many colors skillfully to create beautiful art, we get purposeful and irresponsible distortions like the polychromy Augustus. www.frieze.com/article/polychrome-reconstruction-prima-porta-statue As told to the New Yorker: “The various scholars reconstructing the polychromy of statuary always seemed to resort to the most saturated hue of the color they had detected, and I suspected that they even took a sort of iconoclastic pride in this - that the traditional idea of all-whiteness was so cherished that they were going to really make their point that it was colorful.” Few more examples Cubiculum (bedroom) from the Villa of P. Fannius Synistor at Boscoreale Gilded statue, and white marble statue with gilded clothing www.metmuseum.org/art/collection/search/247017 A first-century fresco of a triclinium, or open dining room, at Moregine featured in “Pompeii and the Roman Villa.” www.nytimes.com/2008/10/24/arts/design/24pomp.html
Did the ancient Romans have public transportation in Rome? When I'm in the subway, I always think about what a subway would look like for ancient Romans. Rome was a big city; they must have had something similar, or at least the concept. Even with carriages, it's possible to make public transportation with fixed routes any thoughts?
That was fun!
Ive seen this happen in anime, the roman was amazed at our bathing tech and strawberry milk supply.
Alien Vs Maximus
What about his reaction to our Philosophy?
How would Americans founding fathers view the country today where one party is engaging in lawfare against the other parties candidate for president or how the 2nd amendment is under siege by the Democrats. I would think they would say we made the 2nd amendment as short and as clear as possible. Only a moron could arrive at the twisted ideas that have been employed to curb the 2nd A. Pretzel logic.
I would love to learn about the ancients political/government systems.
Bro would definitely die after eating pasta(Its too delicious and overloads his mind)
Talk about the economy
I wonder how they would react to an ai robot
