I've got a 455 rancher I put a clutch on and then the kick bar wouldn't release. I eventually took it to a reputable shop and after they kept it about a month told me the saw didn't hav any compression. The saw was running fine I replaced the star wheel that the chain goes around. That was two years ago. One of these days I will figure it out and hopefully hav a good running saw again

I would check out as many 455 repair videos as possible, eventually you may find a video that addresses your problem or at least gives you a clue as to what might be going on. Also try to find an exploded diagram of the chain brake mechanism on the 455 and look at the actual mechanism and the diagram to see if any parts are missing.
